I didn't see you actually plant the cuttings. Need to know if you lay them on the dirt or actually bury the stems into the dirt. Thanks!

I bought a basket of sedums from Wal-mart for $1.75. It was drenched in water, however, I put it in a hanging basket lined with coconut husk and it is doing very well....I enjoy it a lot!

Golden Natural - Smart move to put it in a hanging basket & let it dry out. Those large stores don't properly maintain most of their plants so they need a bit of rescue when you get them home. I enjoy my succulents a lot too! Nell

Thanks for the video. What is the large plant growing up the wall in the last frame with quite thick branches?

I have a question , when you prune an arrangement of succulents , can you leave it where it was in full sun or you have to move it to a shade area?

Hi , is the second one you cut, called golden sedum too? Are they the same? Thank you

Mine is redder in the spring, summer & fall +Bangxing Hong The warm weather seems to bring the color out. It's interesting because my Aeoniums have more color in the winter. Nell

Thank you for the video! So, I have a pencil cactus that is full and healthy and growing constantly all over. Still, within the last month I've noticed branches drying and falling off; the drying seems to start at joints. Dead branches build up in the soil over time. I'm afraid this will gradually increase and I'll lose my favorite plant. It's in a loft sunny East facing window (I believe). I meter before watering and when near dry give it about 16 oz of water until next near dry out. Could you offer any insight as to why my branches may be starting to dry out and fall off?

I wish the video included you actually planting the cuttings. That's the part that I can't find a good video of. Do you literally just stick the cutting in the dirt? You mentioned you let them dry for a couple of days before replacing them?

Hi ***** - thanks for bringing this up. I have a series called "ask Nell" & I'll do this topic as the next video in this series. I'm traveling right now so I'll post it in about 2 weeks so stay tuned. I let the cuttings heel over for at least 2 weeks before planting in the mix. You see how I do it very soon. Hope that helps, Nell

Hi +Paul Archer Good point! I have so many succulents in my garden that I don't need to. The leaves fall off my succulents & root themselves. I did mention it in this post & video though: www.joyusgarden.com/2-easy-ways-propagate-succulents/ Carry on with those leaf cuttings! Nell

+JoyUsGarden I saw the second one afterwards. Thanks. I'm just a po' boy and have learned to beg cuttings from friends whenever I get the chance. Most of my containers have a couple various leaves "conveniently" laying in the soil waiting to be next years plants. :) Great vids, keep them coming.

Thanks Paul! +Paul Archer Some of my succulents grow so fast that I have to trim them & send them to the green waste. I've given so many cuttings to neighbors & friends that they don't need any more. What's that they say about 1 man's trash???! Nell

Yep, I just bought a very nice and large sedum today for $7. By next year I'll have 20. I have been lucky with just tossing the cuttings and broken off pieces on the ground in the flower bed and they grow without issue.

chatbud - Yes, you're a little too moist over there to grow succulents. You do have of wonderful plants to grow though - lots of orchids I'm sure.

my pork and bean succulent is not red. how do you make it red?
@JoyUsGarden9 жыл бұрын
There is a variety of Sedum which stays green so you could have that 1 +Bangxing Hong Or: In the summer time they turn more red because of the sun & heat. Also, they turn red when kept drier. It could need more light, more heat or to be kept drier. Hope that helps, Nell
