I have had both, the early run of 2hp Loop had some noise issues. I returned three of them then decided to wait. I bought them from two different places and the person at one store said yes we’ve had some problems with these anyone have thoughts there? anyone else get a bad one maybe it’s time for me to try again. I also own the W/…… that that’s really great and far deeper and all kinds of cool functions…… but frustratingly I’ve had problems with it also! and I know the company once again had some issues, and there were software updates anyone have some insight there ?? did they clean up the bugs

A real problem with looping in modular, is that no one has standardized trigger response. I have some that response to the first rising edge, and then some that don’t response until the the falling edge, some that don’t even response until almost 16 pulses in, in an 8ppq sync rate. This is one of the reasons why I got rid of the bitbox 2; even when everything was firing properly, you would stop to edit the loop you just recorded, and then all your clocks/seqs/modulation drift is no longer unified 😢 Ableton or whatever DAW and a midi-cv converter have been the most efficient way for consistent performances for me. I just use midi clips with automation so that way I’m not stuck to computer, rather just using it for multiple specific performance events

I had enough of a MIDI sequencer controlling a bunch of synths in the 90s. It was worse back then with knobless multitimbral synths - so hard to make stuff interesting and exciting. These days I sample most things into the MPC as audio.

I'm having the same problem and now I'm drowning in GAS for the Minifreak... Plus hell yes! You should collab with a manufacturer and release your own module. But a compromise I've come up with is having the Hector and Euroburo in my case. If I need something that I don't have a module for, I can usually find something on one of those that works with what I'm doing. Sometimes even my Disting Mk4 comes in handy in a pinch.

Disting EX does a lot of jobs that other modules dont cover in a v small size, the Looper, polyphonic multi-sample playback (and recording!), polyphonic wavetable synth, are all worth the price of admission. The new modes are very full featured and its easy to save the total state of whatever patch youve built internally as a preset for quick recall for live performances. Worth a look!

I know its a bit of a different approach, but I first started using a Korg KP3 to llop my eurorack: you sync it to midi, set the loop lenght, hit rec and it records an exact loop (so its great for sequenced music as it quenatizes everything), and on top of that i had all the KP3 effects to mangle and process both the loops and the incoming live eurorack audio. I have now upgraded to using an IPad with an Expert Sleepers ES9, and now that is perfect. I am running some loopers inside the IPad and from the ES9 I have access to all the individual tracks from the eurorack, I also have a ton of different effects and ways of interacting with the eurorack... And it feels a tad different than just using the system with a laptop running Ableton, the Ipad has a bit more of an instrument interface, I believe. On top of that, it has a million different cool sequencers, actual eurorack apps you can use to send CVs to the hardware system, you can record everything, it has crazy samplers, polysynths, fm synths, etc

@GeorgeLocke 2 жыл бұрын
Semi modular? O rly?
@sonicspecter
@sonicspecter 2 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeLocke at least you have three mini jacks on the back for clock triggers. However, everything else would be either audio or Midi, which is not really the workflow you want for your modular synthesizer. Would be great to have a semi-modular polyphonic desktop Synth without keyboard but with cv for all parameters of the mod matrix.
@GeorgeLocke
@GeorgeLocke 2 жыл бұрын
@@sonicspecter Patchable paraphony is possible, but I don't think full polyphony is ever going to happen except in modular. Unless you're drowning in cash, CV-like control over full polyphony means software. Dreadbox NYX looks like a good parahphonic option. I will say that even though I own 300hp+ of eurorack, I still love VCV Rack. It can be fully polyphonic and modular at the same time. Behind me I've patched up my hardware Pam's to clock the percussion section running in VCV while twiddling synth voices in meat space. Eventually I hope to be able to record stems this way and work them into songs, ideally using MIDI controllers that make it so I don't have to look at the screen. Hybrid setups are probably less hassle than the mess of cords that impelled JAde toward modular, but aside from the computer screen, getting them to play well together is not trivial and probably only practical in the studio. ETA: if you don't care about tempo sync, it's way easier - until recently I was making beatless ambient/noise so the latency sending signals back and forth wasn't a big deal.
@sonicspecter
@sonicspecter 2 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeLocke imagine the MicroFreak as a desktop synth without a keyboard but instead with a large patch bay for full cv-control over the voices and mod-matrix. OK, it is “hybrid” and “6 voice paraphonic”, but it should be possible for a reasonable price…

I feel like if you are running only one signal at a into your modular case a conventional stereo looper receiving its stereo mix should function in the way you want it to. Like Montage-> effects case-> looper-> recorder or front of house, etc. Furthermore I think common practice states that you loop the affected signal rather than effecting your loops, if you want to have an ever evolving processing algorithm on your loop then I would suggest having multiple loopers. Example Jupiter->Looper->effects case-> looper->final destination (computer, headphones, etc.) The only thing you might need in addition to the two loopers is a mixer to sum all the signals from your various instruments into the looper, effects, looper signal chain. Hope this is helpful in any way

Also maybe try Benn Jordan's suggested combination of a empress euroburo and the poly hector so in theory you could have modular environments nested into modular environments. And I'm sure Jade knows this but it's always a good reminder, practice with simple gear setups to focus on your fundamentals and try to plan out what you want your finished product to sound like so you can have a plan of what kind of gear you need to create it

I have multiple comments so I will number them. 1. If you're going to make a decent Eurorack looper, it probably should ALSO be something that functions as a master clock as well. 2. Doing everything in Eurorack takes three times as long as it does in a DAW. Everyone has the same budget in TIME. Eurorack is fun for exploration, experimentation. But for composing... you're going to put out less material. It's much less productive than a DAW. The creative trip is a lot more fun though. So you have to account that you're going to be spending more time tweaking settings, changing patches, etc. than making melodies, chords, etc. Different instruments, right? 3. Noise. That big ole synth digital synth with a massive LCD right next to your Eurorack stuck full of unbalanced antennas... I mean cables. Get it away from your digital stuff and possibly on a different circuit breaker. You can buy modules with built in isolation transformers that might help if you develop a hum issue being on a different breaker. 4. Also, your space is dope. Hanging a large decorate sheet on the wall... especially in rented space. Make a video on your space. That works for me.
