Great intro to comics Matt. I love newspaper comic strips as well, I'll have to show you what else I collect that is scarce to say the least. Great topic

a great way to make memories. when young, me and friends would go to local store and get comic books and would read them and even the letters page, and ads. We could talk about the adventure and share what we liked. I rejoice over your good memories. Comic books for me were an escape also. Life wasn't always fun when I was young, and I learned some bad things. But I survived. I am reliving my childhood in a better way and rediscovering the joy of comic books and the history they show. The way they dressed up the people and the way the cars were and the neighborhoods inside the comic books. the fashion and the old ads.

I do several things with the hobby. I go to my LCS weekly and I stay up on the latest books. I find this to be the most time consuming but also the most rewarding. I also collect major keys that have historical cultural significance! Last month I was on fire…picking up all star 8, flash 1, and Superman 1. Lastly , I like the social aspect of getting on streams here on KZbin and TikTok and interacting with the community that I find very smart, funny, and supportive like your channel here and Allan and Stephen.

Thanks for the memories mate, there are some correlation in our histories for sure. Keep liking them comics mate, we need our hobbies to keep us sane and comics are a great thing to collect as far as I am concerned. As a kid I could never collect the US books regularly and always wondered how the stories left on cliff-hangers ended, so I try and collect full runs as much as I can!

Hey Matt -- thanks for sharing, brother! You mentioned that you bought an Invaders from the comic store today. I went out to a comic store with my wife yesterday, and was very happy to find The "TOMB OF DRACULA Masterworks Volume 2", and I got it for about half the regular cover-price, still in the wrap. Plus I picked up a copy of SUPERNATURAL THRILLERS #3 - THE WORM as well. It was probably about a 2.0 or so, but I loved it because all the pages were there and its cover was still attached. I got it at the "COMIC BOOK SHOPPE" which is located over on Clyde Avenue. It was my first time there, as I am just starting to get back into comics.

Nice to hear some of your origin story Matt! I think I started my channel just so I could talk about what I love, as no one in my family has any interest! So finding all these people out their in you tube ville has given me a purpose! I've been buying and collecting for 60 years now, and I do, like you, like the diversity of comic books and watching some channels, learn a lot about books and creators I never knew existed! I can't imagine ever packing it in, to long in the tooth to change now, lol! I to was helped by Metal Men and Metamorpho to pass science exams! Insightful video, good sir! I liked the fact you mentioned an English comedian, you have good taste!

Excellent video Matt. It's channels like yours, Allan and others that gave me the knowledge to get back into buying comics after an almost twenty-year hiatus from when I was a little kid in the 90's. Don't worry Matt, you'll have way more subscribers in time.

the time I started to re collect comic books was in 2008. I like the story and the art. I care about the characters and their "journey" as they interact with each other as they fight or explore. I love stories that are two or three part stories. I prefer older comics, not the schlock they have on the bad, weak modern stories and very bad art they now [ although I have been told there are actually young people that think some of the art in those are good...??

Thanks for sharing! I have talked tooo much about why I love comics, so I will spare you the pain. LOL Agree with the "too much money" thing. I need to slow down before I have to start selling plasma. 😉

Great video. We like all the same stuff. And we both have a very emotional connection to comics. I learned how to read through comics too. I still couldn’t read in 2nd grade and my parents thought I was retarded until a reading teacher introduced me to comics. She said she thought it wasn’t that I couldn’t learn to read it was just that there was nothing that interested me enough to do it. She was right. Never stopped.

Cool comic collection origin story. I was bullied as a kid because I was fat and had a crossed eye. People have usually underestimated me. Groing up with 3 tuff brothers tuffens you up. It is a shame when kids bully someone that is different. Then they get in a fight and the underdog kicks their ass. You earned some kids respect because you had to fight to do it. That is the problem. The heros always stand up for underdogs and the villains are the bullies. That's one reason why I like comis. That stuff was over 50 years ago. Now I'm just an old fart that likes comics and likes to bullshit about the good old days.😂
