Your review is the most in-depth that I have been able to find regarding Herod. I just pulled the trigger and purchased my full bottle last week after a two-year internal battle. I used to work with a fragrance rep in Chicago about two years ago who would ALWAYS try to get me to purchase Herod, but I would always go with something else. At the time it was just sort of "its OK...but mehhhh!" Fast forward to this year and I'm in WPB, FL for work. I go to SAK's and I apply one spray of Herod to my hand, but end up purchasing MFK Oud Silk Mood instead. But when I get to my hotel room I'm like "WHAT IN THE WORLD is that I'm smelling?!?!" When my bottle arrived last week I applied one spray to my wrist and for about 30mins I was in a state of COMPLETE disappointment. So much so that I thought I had been sold a knock-off fragrance. But after about 30mins something happened and I was like "Whoa CRAP!....this is IT!!!"

I just ordered samples of Layton Carlisle and Herod and while all were good, Herod is the one I will purchase. I own Tobacco Vanille but Herod takes the cake in my opinion, not in performance but the shit is intoxicating

Herod was my first niche, first time I wore it I was like, what the fuck? Didn’t understand it at all, thought it was way to feminine, but wore it a couple more times and was like, holy shit this stuff is actually amazing.. love to sniff the atomiser when I’m not even wearing it..

I think that is due to Iso E super. People get nose blind really quickly to this ingredient, others should still smell you

The incense was what sold Herod for me over Carlisle and Layton. The mix of that with tobacco and a vanilla dry down blew my mind and I got a full bottle right away. Got it on discount but I do wish it had beast performance like Carlisle.

Exact same reaction process from me. First pass, I was like "eh"-but that first wear must have rewired my brain because on the second wear it was an entirely different experience, I absolutely loved it. Same thing with Layton. If you're new to this house I recommend getting decant and really test driving the scents. The complexity and quality WILL shine through because they are undeniable.

Strange that you say that because a couple days ago I smelt Herod and I was not impress at all, all I got was a smell of tobacco and that’s it,smelt Carlisle and was much better smell than Herod, so might have to give Herod another chance then 👍

I got a decant from FragranceNet, was blown away by the composition of the scent, but the performance was so so. I got Layton instead. I may need to revisit Herod after watching 👍

When I first smelt my Herod sample I didn’t really get the character of the fragrance. It smelt plain and almost smelt like nothing. But now Herod is my favorite pdm scent wise although others have better performance

I was the same with Layton exclusive, first time I sprayed it I was like “what the fuck is this, I can’t wear that”’ I avoided it for 2 weeks, then gave it a proper wearing and realised how good it actually is.. All my favourite fragrances had to grow on me..

I have a small collection and I have both Naxos and Herod, they are very different . I use Herod a lot more for winter, it is a cosy scent so ideal for dates etc. Naxos has citrus top notes and can easily be worn all year round , this is what I would use on a night out in a bar. They are equally as good but just used in different occasions so I really like having both. Herod - sweet cinnamon , ashy tobacco Naxos - honey, citrus with a little bit of tobacco

Naxod and Herod is tie for me but if I were a woman I would prefer Naxos. I love them both but I would prefer Herod just because it is more masculine. They are both very unisex but if I had to choose wich was for men I would pick Herod. You described it best when you said Naxos is more playful and Herod is straight to the point

I bought a clone called hercules for $35 and It is my sisters fave fragrance out of the other 12 I have, including dior sauvage elixir, the most wanted, etc. Its a TOP G fragrance, andrew tate would match herod, and tristan tate would match dior sauavage elixir.

I have the same opinion about Pure Havane. I don’t like it. I purchased a full bottle several years ago and returned it for a refund after a couple of wears. It’s overrated imo. People keep comparing it to Naxos. It doesn’t smell like Naxos to my nose. Naxos is hands down better than Pure Havane.

Herod is closer to pure havane. Used to love pure havane but started to realize it was cloying. Herod is classed up version of it with more of a dry hay like tobacco. Naxos is the best but it’s very feminine

Parfums de Marly has REFORMULATED Herod. I own an older formulation which has an alcohol concentration of 78%. The new formulation I see in stores has 81% alcohol. My formulation is a dark orange / amber color. The new formulation is a very light, faint orange in color. The new formulation does not last as long and it smells different. Parfums de Marly fragrances are ALWAYS getting reformulated and become much weaker than their ORIGINAL releases. Parfums de Marly HAS NOT been transparent when it comes to the reformulation of their fragrances. Carlisle, Layton & Oajan have also been reformulated and have 3%-4% more alcohol in newer batches.

Meh, Herod, if your over 40 you probably remember as a kid that old man who smoked a pipe, it’s really not as common now but then it’s something you smelled often back then, cherry pipe tobacco. It’s an interesting memory but as a perfume it’s ok at best. Smells exactly like Jacques Bogart pour homme, nothing niche besides a high price, or Alahambra Hercules which is cheaper and pretty much an identical clone, Then there’s Godolphin which I like better, but the cheaper clone is Galatea or Rasasi la yuqawam, they all smell the same to me. It’s funny, over 200 bucks to smell like some crusty old dudes pipe from 1970 , hipsters lol.

Bought Herod sample blind smelling for the 1st time - Hands down! One of the shittiest perfume I have ever smelled. Very doughy smelling, extremely sweet (almost turned my intestines inside out) and just vanilla in the dry down. I think this is a ttpe of smell that would suit a Professional Prostitute (nothing wrong with that)
