I think you have a strong enough following to expand on your current job as a KZbinr. Perhaps writing blogs, or providing online consulting about budgeting/minimalism/living a simple life, and you would still do what you love, just more in depth and detail. You’re awesome Kyra!

I completely hear you about the “cost” of a nice salary. From 2013-2021, my husband and I were team truck drivers and we’d spend anywhere from 6-12 weeks at a time living on the road. The money was amazing. We saved 80% of what we made, and even with all the savings, we never had to think about money and always bought what we wanted. But the “price” we paid? 1. The truck always had to be moving - 24/7. So that meant he drove at night and me during the day. So we’re always sleeping in a moving bed. In all weather conditions. The anxiety could be intense! 2. Sometimes I just couldn’t stop in time if I needed to pee and there were accidents (you know the kind). 3. Getting any kind of physical movement in often meant walking around a truck stop with deafening Diesel engines running and the constant whiff of urine. 4. We could get bothered at any time day or night telling us to go here, pick up this. Cancelled loads with no notice and we didn’t get paid for cancelled loads. And we didn’t get paid to wait hours for a load to be ready. 5. That feeling at 2am when I’m sleeping and I’m jolted awake by a huge bang and my husband says a tire has burst and we’re either having to stop on the shoulder of an interstate at 2am (if it’s a steer tire) or an off ramp (if any other tire) and waiting hours for assistance. This was not an uncommon occurrence. 6. Black ice, downpours, snow, overturned tractor trailers all over I-40 in NM and OK, tornado warnings, blinding fog. Once we were on I-90 going over the mountain in Idaho and weather was fine until we reached a certain altitude and suddenly trucks were crashing into the snowbank shoulder and we were trying to keep momentum because by then, the risk of us losing traction and rolling down was real. We made it up at about 5mph and had no place to stop at the top so no choice but to go down into Montana. We made it down somehow without engine breaks (can’t use them in slippery conditions) and when we pulled into the rest area, I was an absolute hysterical wreck. And I wasn’t even the one driving!! Anyway, now we own our condo free and clear, my husband works 3 days a week as a local driver, I’m retired, he brings in less per month than we made in a week but we’re both SO happy and contented with our life!! In September I’m giving up my CDL and reverting back to a car license. I miss absolutely nothing about the job.

Holy crap that was a good read! You'd have tonnes of good stories from your time on the road and it served a purpose but there often comes a time when you just don't want to do what you've been doing to achieve what you've been achieving. I'm glad you both are on the other side in such a contented lifestyle 😊

You are SO right about the stress that you avoid with working from home and for yourself. I always say that I just want to make enough money to pay all the bills, be able to take maybe one vacation per year and save for retirement and a rainy day. Thankfully, I'm able to work a corporate job from home and that has been the best gift for my mental health.

If you do decide to talk about your savings at some point I feel like a year end review of your savings journey would be cool. Like a video to address how it went and what you plan to change/keep the same for the next year. That way it's more of a one and done type of thing for the year instead of constantly answering questions. But your money and savings talks inspired me to squirrel away all the money I can. I'm like "do I want to spend $6 on something or do I want to see my savings grow?" lol

I love the freedom of working for yourself. Since being in vet school, I've only. been able to work Saturday shifts. I made like $100 in 9 hours and I was exhausted. Luckily, my husband's job is enough for all the bills and things we need so he suggested I stop working until I am done with vet school. Since then, I've been shopping at thrift stores and reselling on Mercari. I am able to make more a lot faster and it's so much less physical work. It makes me sad to think about going back into the real world lol.

I love this video. I am also self-employed, I babysit grandkids. I've gotten spoiled by the things you said: no drama, go to the bathroom anytime I want. However, I can't schedule appointments anytime I want. Another advantage of working at home is it is easier on the gas bill, because I don't drive the car as much. And I watch more YT videos while the kids are watching TV or running around the living room. I've gotten so spoiled, now I don't want to go back to a regular job.

Kyra you’re a gem. I am so glad you are making money off IG now because I know you were hesitant to reactivate it. You are intelligent, you are wise & you have common sense! (Yes they are three different things 😉😘) Wish you nothing but the best! ❤️
