Welcome to NS. :) I instantly could tell you were new to the area by the pronunciation of "Sobeys" :) Locals say it with a double "E" sound on the end.

It takes awhile to have things settle in a new situation. Don't feel bad, just use it as your learning curve :). The fact that you are doing it is great. Love that you are vlogging from Nova Scotia, and that the reality of Cdn pricing is posted. Food costs way more here; sticker shock on my return to Montreal, after living in LA for 17 years

I actually don't mind the Costco Kirkland brand for oat milk. Plus you get I think six containers for $12 so it works out price wise. At some point I want to be brave and try Elmhurst but they are like the prominent whole foods version of oat milk almost going $10 for one container! But I'm told it's like just the ingredient in water.

What you need are Iranian immigrants who open non oligopoly owned grocery stores. Doesn’t have to be Iranian but they’re the ones opening stores here in my bit of Montreal. And Koreans. Much cheaper than those crooks who own the chains and mark up stuff . All the points you earn is half the amount cheaper independent stores are. I can save more by shopping at independent than at Loblaws etc and getting points that give you $10 off every so often

Times have always been tough living in the Maritimes, but with the influx of CFA's things are even tougher. There is a housing shortage and there are thousands and thousands without a family doctor. Most jobs are in the service industry, with part-time hours and no benefits. Now the very same people who contributed to the problem are complaining about said issues. And don't get me started about new mortgage prices on homes that people overpaid by $80-100 000, sight unseen.
