Would be so cool to understand how you decided how much money to put away for the sabbatical and what money you won’t touch. Would also love to learn how you go about getting the money you got from stocks at Google if that’s a thing? Or a 401K?

Bukola, I love how real you are! I took a sabbatical a couple years ago and I definitely was not as kind to its ups and downs as you are. The biggest thing I struggled with back then was my self-worth, I often questioned who I was without my work. I like that you have gone into this sabbatical with a plan, and that you have an acceptance mindset towards the changes that it brings. I wish this video had existed back when I was taking my sabbatical, it would've been a good motivator (even if the sabbatical was my choice) Looking forward to more such videos! I love your clothing choices (especially the black top in this video), could you make a video about your favorite pieces and how you style them?

Your mental health and peace is a priority right now in your life! Don’t listen to the haters! Life is too short and yes, it’s risky to not have a paycheck coming in every two weeks! But you did pre-plan this sabbatical and set financial goals in advance to make this possible! You can ALWAYS make money, but if you don’t take time to improve your quality of life and create your own peaceful environment & goals, then it’s worth it! No regrets, no looking back! Money will always be out there people, but you can lose your mind if you don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle & your mental health! God bless and continue to ignore the negative naysayers who are envious and feel better transferring their fears and doubts on you! Proud of you! Keep doing you! Cut off the noise and block any distractions if they try to hinder you from meeting your end goals! God bless you bukola ! 😊❤️🙏🏾

A day-in-the-life that is not focused on work is actually freaking iconic! Thank you offering such transparency and insight. *Also, total side-note, right before I left my fantastic trainer (because after like six months I couldn’t afford it anymore) she offered me a discount to help me stay long. At that point I couldn’t take it because I was already in the red, but if I had known early I would have stayed. I’m not sure if all trainers do that right before you leave, or if it was just that she’s very cool people, but perhaps your trainer/s offer a discount to help you stay longer.

i personally can’t believe people wonder what someone would do with their free time not spent at a job…like…some people have actual hobbies that fulfil them. my hobbies and just personal time to work on myself (which is a forever journey) filled my days when i took a sabbatical. i have never lived to work i work to live period. i would gladly retire right now if i could and have a fulfilling life.

I love that your unemployment journey is defying people's expectations based on the comments. People think you should be super frugal and suffering and you are not. Thank for reminding me: That there is a life outside of my job Planned sabbaticals are a gift and not being fixated on money and investing in self-care is just as important as a 9 to 5. And finally, we are more than our productivity. Even if you did nothing for 6 months, I Stan in your investment. I hope that you keep you protect your good energy amidst all the questions from people who do not walk in your shoes and HAVE FUN! 🎉

I live in Jersey City and generally hang in NYC/Brooklyn so I understand this video quite a bit. I typically do a sabbatical in between most jobs. I did 2 months in Korea after leaving one job. Ended up moving there and staying for 4 years. Took another summer break after returning. I spent like 10k easily in about 6 months of being back in NYC. That was with me staying with my parents and being somewhat frugal.

I feel for you younger folks. The Landlords and Merchants are killing us with over pricing. In 1992 I got out of the Marines and rented an apartment for 600 per month. I`m still there, but now I have to pay 2000 per month for the same place. I`m about to take my social security but it looks like I may have to keep working too until I drop dead.

As a 45 year old woman, born and raised in bushwick bklyn now living in queens I agree with you this is very expensive for one person for one week. For one person 1/4 of that spending amount is decent. I agree with you the personal training sessions should be cut out. You can still get a great workout with free videos. And definitely walk to the supermarket and get those sales. If you’re trying to get out of debt or maximum the spending of your savings, Dave Ramsey says you shouldn’t see the inside of a restaurant unless your working there.

When I first moved to NYC I had $60 and had my 1st month of rent paid, that’s all! I learned that NYC is a great place to be broke. I did eat a lot of bread, but I also went to art shows and all kinds of free sites. I always bought the monthly pass for the subway 1st thing after rent, this way I could go literally any place in the 5 Boros. (That’s going away soon). If you have to be really broke for some time I think it’s a fine place to do it.

My phone came with a charger and when I lost it, they said, "Sure you can buy this one. It's 40 dollars". And I had to buy it because I needed it. Sometimes I take my charger with me, but sometimes I am like no, you can stay home, where you are completely safe. So I understand your dilemma. If you were not expecting any important calls, I would have just waited to charge until I got home.
