Japan on a whole is overrated on everything. People should stop romanticizing Japan and think it can do no wrong. I had fun going places but once the novelty of food and shops wore off, in less than 3 days, I found it oppressive, suffocating, fake, and forced

The tech golden years are over. Tesla just laid off 14000 employees. Good luck out there but there are so many people looking for work in this field. It seems like it's an employers market these days.

How do you manage all of this without burning out? I know that the System Design interview has caveats but do you think that there is a positive because it forces you to learn and be on top of System Design techniques?

Something that has helped me when I was 7 months jobless - I started putting myself up on Upwork as a freelancer and got gigs that way that held me over until I got a job and I also picked up side jobs on apps like Upshift while doing that. Now my freelancer portfolio has quite a bit experience and I get clients way quicker than I get a job. I haven’t went into it full time yet, but I plan to possibly one day switch over to become a full time freelancer, but I’ve had the opportunity and just been too scared. If no one else sees your value, CREATE your own!! Took me some time to get my first big client but it happened quicker than finding a job. Just a food for thought for someone out here

Its not a scam! I've paid for it and have found it to be extremely helpful.... but it is definitely expensive and there are cheaper alternatives which I listed in the video. So even though its a good option its not the only option you need to feel prepared for interviews.

Hey Bukola, what are your thoughts on studying CS now? The job market seems to have cooled for it and with AI's programming abilities, maybe CS is no longer a good bet ? Maybe this could be a video!

I don't really believe this story. No company is going to pay a software engineering 500k a year. There just isn't any reason to do that. You could fire that person and hire 5 engineers for 100k or 20 of them in India for 50k .

The US job market seems bizarre... On average, I find something new within 2-3 months. It can take longer, when I start looking around the summer holidays for example, but less dramatic than I read about in the comments here. Also, the application process is easier here. On average (again), most applications here have 1 or 2 stages. The 2nd stage usually being a "talk" with a more technically inclined individual. On the rare (yes, rare) occasions you have to pass a test, the questions revolve around the technology stack used there. They would - for example - ask you to implement something simple using LINQ or EF, ask you to explain some technological concepts (Design Patterns, for example), or have you evaluate/debug a code example. Things like data structures... I have never been asked about those. Most companies don't have the time or staff to execute and follow up on the extensive testing I heard about here. So whatever tests you get, it's of the variety they can quickly run through between lunch and their first toilet break, for example. There are exceptions, of course; some companies have 3 or 4 stages. However, that often costs them since it discourages people from applying for positions there. And those who apply tend to find something else before arriving in the final round.

Ive been out of the field for a minute and then got a interview scheduled two weeks ahead power day style and thought that would be plenty of time to prepare. I was so wrong lol. You really do need at least a month or more, especially for system design which was a first for me. And yea don’t go cheap on mock interviews, they’re expensive but worth it for the level of prep.

I'm not in CS major, but sometimes have coding interviews as well as hardware. You have very interesting approach for interview prep. Not just "do as much as you can leetcode". I like the idea of flash cards. What software are you using for this to transfer notes to flash cards? Also, like an idea of get fundamentals refreshed with other websites and courses. I'm also looking for a job currently, and have even some notes from previous interviews, but the notes are not so well organized. Really want to get it more organized.

I’m considering switching jobs. This video has set my expectations to send out tons of applications and wait for all the rejections T_T. One thing I didn’t expect was using websites from applying. For some reason, I imagined I would go directly to each company’s website to apply. I’ll probably do that, but I’m wondering how much it matters, if at all.
