As usual another great video Juliet. Have yet to go bikepacking but I was in the Army. May I suggest you get a silk sleeping bag liner? They take up hardly any room and they add a little extra warmth to your bag.

REALLY good. Informative, touches on the key factors about what makes good kit (cheap, light, durable, pick any two). Also, good point about a decent down jacket. I bought my PHD Minimus in 2010. It's been on every car camping, cycle touring and backpacking trip since then. It's still going strong.

I would suggest you to go to Geneva and set sail (ahoy pirate), no, actually ride your bike along Eurovelo 17 to Andermatt. Eventually you'll be passing near Matterhorn. From Andermatt continue along Eurovelo 15 to Basel. The whole route should be very beautiful so you'll gett a lot of material for your channel. I was planning to do it (actually did the second part before) but first this bloody corona which restricted travels and now this f...ing war in Ukraine. I hope I'll do it some day if I survive but would also like to see someone else riding it.

Great video Juliet. I've got lots of ultralight hiking gear that I think would be good for bike packing, just can't find a bar bag that wants to fit in standard road bike drop bars. Anyone got a good recommendation for 400mm road bars? Saddle bag and frame bag fits, just cant find a bar bag that's big enough to be useful and small enough to not interfere with Shimano STI levers.

Great video again Juliet, I've also seen Laura's which is also worth a watch if anyone hasn't seen it. I'm planning on trying to do a couple of bikepacking trips this year hopefully. I've been gradually buying and building up a bit of a set up and I'm almost there now. Yours and Laura's videos have helped me massively One question though which I haven't seen included in quite a few others videos of backpacking.... what do you do about the toilet situation whilst out on these multi day trips, I can't be bringing a portaloo along with me on a trailer 🤣🤷‍♂️
@JulietElliottsChannel
@JulietElliottsChannel 2 жыл бұрын
In the UK you're rarely so remote you won't pass a toilet at some point during the day. Most people pee in the wild and hold anything else till they're at a toilet. Otherwise you could take a spade designed for this purpose - dig a hole and cover

You mentioned being a bit cold whilst sleeping and I didn’t see that you had a sleeping bag liner with you? I use a Rab silk liner in black. Keeps your bag clean and adds a bit of insulation too. I also use my down jacket wrapped around my legs or torso for a little extra heat. Of course a warmer sleeping bag is the best solution really, I have the Rab Nutrino 800. It’s a beaut! It’s nice to have options, but I’ve been cold too many times, so I don’t do that anymore. Hope you enjoy you’re riding and camping this summer, maybe I’ll see you out there. Take care and enjoy.

Nice to see I have so much kit the same! (i live close to an Alpkit shop...) .... you didn't seem to have much spare room for carrying food. I carry a lightweight Exped dry bag type rucksack that I can carry food in from the shop to a camp, then when it is not in use it rolls up really small and can be tied on somewhere. Being a dry bag it also seems to come in useful for putting the odd thing in if necessary at other times. Other people carry musettes just to put some food in when needed.

I used to have a set of restrap bags, have an issue with the top tube bag and handle bar bag. The iteration of my toptube bag was using 2 pieces of velcro straps to hold on to the headtube, but they detatch all the time then the bag will fall to the side, I borrowed a stapler to tack them together but it failed mid ride, at the end i just shove the whole thing in other bag. Then comes the handle bar bag, i guess it will work well with round bars but definitely not aero bar, the straps will get loose no matter how tight you strap them up, mine got loose during a descend and it's dangling over the front wheel, tyre just ripped through the bag before i pull over. Definitely not recommended if no update was made
