As an ENTP I want to understand how people's beliefs and concepts were formed for 3 main reasons: 1) see if I'm wrong by comparing their mental process to mine 2) understand the mental process used by that person so the next time I speak to her/him about anything I can persuade and speak better by "retracing" that same process that person used to form their beliefs/concepts/thoughts. This can be interpreted as manipulation but at the same time, by doing it, you feel more connected to that person and understand why people do certain things. This ability is great but sometimes I'm able to see someone's view so well and I do it so often that I almost feel I'm losing myself and I feel fragmented 3) "steal" (ie modeling) the mental process used by that persona so I can "integrate" it in my mind to improve how my mind works and how I do things in my life

That’s really good. I like the notion of mental sparring and integration, because as ENTPs, it sharpens our own game. Let’s face it though, sometimes manipulation does come into play as a motivation. We are way too frequently accused of it, but sometimes we are surely guilty of it. It depends on the stakes - sometimes I’m in it to win it, especially if as an ENTP I think the person is being shortsighted (as we commonly do, because no one has logically explored all the angles like we have), AND if I think a critical decision is flawed, leading to what I can see as a poor outcome. We can be forthcoming, or depending on our read of the situation / people (which we’re really good at) manipulation is simply easier than trying to explain our cognitive (and what some might perceive as overly complicated) reason behind our thinking. That being said - I truly believe we don’t manipulate for personal gain when we need to take that route; more commonly, it’s because we see a better alternative and truly care about ushering in a better outcome for everyone. I think ENTPs are naturally more optimistic (even idealist in some ways) and are constantly scanning the environment to come up with ways of improving upon it. So, in the context of manipulation, sometimes the end can justify the means.

I am almost always the one giving advice to others, usually when they are sad or stressed or angry and I teach them a better more useful perspective on it. I almost never am given advice but I am guessing its because I never ask for advice on anything usually because I like to figure out the best way on my own.

Na, I don't see it as a thing that's claiming to do anything. I see it as a group of ideas being thrown around by different people, and if you jump in and look around you can collect a lot of insights and build up a better personality interpreting machine. It's like reading Sylvia Plath so that next time someone asks you about the 50s your mental space in that field is more complicated and dense. Essentially, it's not about what MBTI is, it's about what it is for you. But ya. 1000% procrastinating rn. Have to do a 40% of my grade 6 page essay (meaning I'll write at least 8) by tomorrow. I haven't started it and prob won't till like 5 lol

I like to think of MBTI and psychology in general as a lens to view my own deficiencies through rather than as a concrete way of understanding people. It doesn't really matter if it is valid or not as long as it makes me think about the difficult topics I have a bias towards avoiding, whether they be personal or otherwise.

as an ENTP, I like to have a well rounded but extensive knowledge of mostly everything or simply bc what if one path I'm on or taking gets boring? for example; got bored working construction once I got licensed and "knew how to do it all" in my trade. I said eh this sucks now, I dont want to work this physically hard if I'm not feeding my intellect any longer. so I started selling life health insurance. went to equipment operating, marketing management etc. were so curious we try avoid ever having to state we dont know about a subject. but if we dont know, we Google that shit and learn lightning fast 😁.

I still have people calling me to try to service them again years down the line and I just can't. It would be a boring job I would procrastinate on or still accomplish well, but haaaate every minute until it was over. Ugh. Not to mention that I am notorious for having 2-3 regular employer jobs at one time. It's been only about a little over a year that I have only done one thing now.

I felt your insights from your view point were refreshing, because... being a woman ENTP, and only a little over 2% of us are ENTP's.....it gets blurred, for me, if there is ANYONE who can "see" that what I want most, is for others is to be challenged, to be curious, less judgmental, and look at life as a prism. To notice how the slightest movement of thought can reflect a color or hue (perspective) you have never seen before. Thank you for being a prism with movement for me today.

Worked with several ENTPs and I like it. They tend to wait too long before taking action because their Ne pushes the ENTPs to explore other possibilities while I tend to jump into action too fast. Together, we are a strong team. OK, sometimes we have a Ne-Se clash generating a lot of sparks but no hard feelings the next day. :)

I'm an ENTP and I have a good ESTP friend. It's really funny how we interact because every time we hang out I got like 2 or 3 new idea's and it seems like he loves that. He's always getting involved in pyramids schemes and stuff that I would never touch because it seems to good to be true, but he's really hardworking and smart. It's so strange watching Ti-Fe being lead around by Se. When we hang around he's always moving around and taking care of people or getting them stuff without asking, whereas i'll notice, but am less likely to act unless I want to or know the person well. Watching his Se has really helped me see that sometimes I need to be impulsive and just do before the opportunity window passes. He also showed me that it's okay to work harder than everyone else and have a great work ethic even if you feel like you're doing all the work for your lazy ass coworkers.

I wonder whether I speak for other ENTPs now aswell or not but I think that the fact that I, growing up have had to experience a TREMENDOUS amount of critique, sometimes for really weird reasons and sometimes completely valid ones. These comments may or may not have caused me to start questioning everything and seeing it from all these billions of angles. It's not always a fun thing to do. Sometimes it's very much fueled by fear (much like things you've talked about in this video). Sometimes ofc it really is just for fun, like I keep doing it for stress-relief but not really caring about missing links or illogical factors. I think I really need someone to direct my thoughts. Neither amplifying them or shutting them down (a.k.a "grounding" me.. pff what a joke.) (...jk)- -- but someone who kinda points me towards different ideas and lets me go on a rampage on those topics, for a purpose that'll be rewarding somehow in the end, ya know? Maybe I'm just rambling. Whatever. You're great Meghan. *big hugs*

I will cross any line to do it and thats what holding me back. I need to master myself and for me thats knowing when to shut up. I have a very powerful skill but like Spiderman's grandfather said "with great power comes great responsibility" I must only unleash at the perfect time :P My advice to other ENTPs dont be so hard on yourself. People who love you and care about you know you are like this and they love you and your faults. You argue a lot sure but it could be worse.

I loved your explanation of the known known, known unknown, and unknown unknown !!! That is impressively accurate! I have never heard it explained that way before and am going to use that! As an ENTP, I know that I annoy the crap out of my boss (and yet am compelled to continue with my approach) because as an ESTJ he just wants a quick (I would say shallow at times) analysis, just enough to then make a decision and take action. I am constantly bringing forward the “outliers” (the known unknowns) as a warning because I see it as their blind spot, but the ESTJ “has a tendency of “waving it off” as irrelevant. By the way, I strongly recommend against “waving off” an ENTP because when (not if) an issue inevitably arises that we were trying to get people to proactively prepare for 6 months in advance, we will make a point of saying I told you so. Not because our ego ever needs the confirmation, but to make it clear to others that we are an amazing barometer that they should make use of, lest find themselves hitting another hidden land mine. And we can be quite chippy about it because being dismissed is likely the most infuriating thing for an ENTP. One other point - the existence of “unknown unknowns” (UU) is the reason why we can commonly come off as indecisive. For us to make an informed decision, we need to get a sense of the dimensions of the field we are playing in. You have probably heard an ENTP say “if I had to decide right now ...” it is precisely because we have to many UUs in the area and that makes us very nervous with making a decision. And we’re also using that language because we are feeling backed into a corner. Though we can take action, we are quick to verbalize all our disclaimers at the outset. Thanks for explaining it that way - it helps to explain not only our way of thinking but some challenges we can run into with other types because of it. Thumbs up!!!

8:00 as an ENTP I don't care if I'm wrong and will put my hands up and admit it if I am, because by having that conversation I have increased my knowledge and corrected misconceptions or misunderstandings I had about the subject. What I don't do is talk about things I know nothing about, in that situation I will listen and take the information in and research further if the subject interests me. Alternatively if I am the prominent talking in the conversation I hope that I have shared my understanding of the subject discussed and enlightened the others in the discussion. Life is like science we know what we know now, but tomorrow we could find out that what we thought we knew was not quite right and therefore need to rework my understanding. .

This was probably one of the best videos I have seen that describes how I think. The exception here for me starts at 15:19 in the video where you explain which values define an ENTP. I absolutely do not define myself by what I like and enjoy doing. Those things are basically givens that I will make each situation enjoyable that I am in and I will make the time I spend valuable but the TRUTH is what I intend to live by and I seek what is true and worthy to be held onto like GOLD! I might be the only ENTP that thinks this way but since everything else was so spot on I’m perfectly fine with retaining what I believe to be an invaluable exception to the rule 😎👍🏼. If I'm in a conversation with someone about a specific topic I prefer to have that conversation from their perspective, expanding upon it and questioning it with whatever perspectives I've gathered rather than addressing it with those perspectives as some form of a judgement. It makes conversations smoother while it also allows for expansive growth and understanding from both sides. If I want you to value my input on a subject I know that's much less likely to happen if your perspective is not part of the equation and many times my perspective is undecided anyway. This can not happen if the person you are talking to won't even share their reasons or thoughts behind the subject. If there's a problem that needs to be fixed not sharing literally makes the problem unsolvable. I get that inferior Ti makes you not want to share your reasons but that can drive all of my functions crazy. "I have X feeling" followed by avoiding the actual issue or unwillingness to explain the reason behind it is like a personal brand of torture designed specifically to drive me insane.

Thanks for this awesome video! As an entp, I really hate being one (maybe as a woman too). I also find that a lot of the descriptions of entp's do not match up with my experience, even though when I review the MBTI there is no doubt I am. You really know their thinking well, I actually learned a lot about myself. As for the usual descriptions, for example, i spend a lot of time in Fe mode, my tertiary, and almost find it hard to believe it's tertiary for me. In fact, I could probably easily type as an enfj. I wonder if that is common for women entp's b/c of the stereotype that we shouldn't be argumentative, etc so we develop this side a lot to help our banter go down more smoothly. But even aside from that, I don't think I have ever been particularly argumentative, or overly devil's advocate, which is a lot of type descriptions. We're exploring, inquisitive, and frankly, sooooo fascinated by the very operation of the mind, that we question people to get a better idea of exactly what you said -- how do they think? Why do they think that way? What perspective do they have in processing info. that we might be overlooking. You are so right about that part -- we want to know what we are missing, content and process. I am very drawn to J types even though they can be slow on the change-uptake, lol, and probably INJ types, because they have what I love about me, the N, but they are more practical and able to live out the theoretical side. SJs are my envy -- their productivity! I could never match it and feel useless in the world compared to them. And SPs -- they inspire me. For example, my estp friends freak me out. I don't answer the phone when they call b/c I know it will likely be a request for immediate action, which in spite of sharing 3 letters, I have a very hard time doing. (For one, I was probably planning on reading about their type that day -- haha), but I hop on board almost everytime b/c they can get the things going that I envision but don't do...like every time. I'll think about possible trips to take, but when my estp friend called me on it and said let's go next week, and for once, I did it. And it was like -- wow, you can actually just go. Doing x isn't just a possible option to think about. Lol! Finally, all my inquisitiveness about people has fine tuned my empathy. That's entp -- we get to empathy intellectually, but when we do, it's truly empathy! and a deeper understanding, appreciation, and almost envy of their way of seeing things. (So when people say we're argumentative, which suggests trying to go against others, that is so waaaaaayyyy off base. Maybe I annoy people, but that makes me feel really bad because, if I am questioning and getting at your whys and your way of thinking/being, I'm really interested in you!) Thanks for your awesome videos about entps. I think you help us appreciate us! We study everything but ourselves :)

Kind of mirroring your insecurities in an aggressive way. You've really soften, seem to have a well round perspective not fuelled by your own emotions any more, you've become much more approachable. I know the biggest thing that annoy people is that I evoke emotions with my questioning and quest for internal growth, as it highlights parts they are not ready to see or uncomfortable coming across something they had no idea existed. One thing I've learned, is to only question when people are stable or in the right place, instead to be the comforter, the listener, the encourager and to bring them back to life when feel nothing is going for them. Trusting our intuition is crucial, feeling an unsettled environment or the person your with inner turmoil, then keeping the questioning and advice to a minimum until you know that the person is the right place- even if our hearts are in the right place and we know a way to solve your problem, we need to realise that other are not ready mentally for it or work at such a fast pace with personal growth. The importance of trusting our intuition before running straight into a situation, can stop us from coming across insensitive, rude or evoking a persons hidden triggers.

Hi ENTP Nick here. Meghan, this has been the best ENTP video I has seen in some time. Love the bringing up the unknown unknowns / known unknowns, etc. I have watched an estimated 9,000 (at least) documentaries in the past 6 years. I had to ask myself why I has doing this at some point during this process. In essence that's what I figured out...I was trying to make at least make all the unknowns known...and to possible look to strengthen ideas and concepts to make them "closer to known" if you will. Anyway very refreshing video, I am not saying I discounted you when I first saw one of your videos like a year ago or so now....but I too can see a shift in your mind...a shift for the better....and I just want to say good job = ) = ) = )...I hear you on ENFP's, I have 4 strong ENFP's as freinds =). Keep up good work. Peace and harmony -Nick

Meghan it was nice to hear that you are interested in astrology! I love astrology and I know lots of people would say is crazy to believe in such things but it defenatelly works for me and I see so many patterns in people behaviour correlate to the specific planets energy. Meghan What's your Sun/Moon/Asc? :) It could be interesting to make a video and compare Mbti functions to planet's energies :)

I never judge anyone, I never point my finger to someone and say "you are crazy/weird/insane" just because they did something that most people can't relate to, instead I'm curios even excited about the reason why they did what they did. id love to hear them out, to see their side of the story unless it's boring..

What is difficult is when i have figured out someone's reasons but they are in denial about it or dont understand themselves enough yet and they then take offence when i draw attention to these reasons. As an entp i value being direct but have realized that some people (a lot of people actually) find it unnerving and intimidating that they are so transparent and feel like they have been put on the spot. Its unintentional on my part as im genuinely curious about the inner workings of peoples minds and their motivations, almost like guessing what game they are playing and then verifying my assumptions. Most of the time im correct but sometimes im pleasantly surprised.

Something about the type just inspires respect (maybe it’s the dom Fe?). Something about the approach they take. Great work 👍.

Of course they are. Yet you still know they exist, as a whole. There are ways to easily march toward them with certainty and that is to know the difference between truth and opinion. When you understand the nature of these things, you find that there are myriad un-uns. You also know exactly where they lie and that is in unfamiliar territories and, additionally, in the crevices which are patterns or relationships between cross-platform underatanding of fields of knowledge. It's actually rather simple. All you have to do is to harness your inner explorer to find them. It's a rather intuitive process.

i really appreciate what you said about everyone having their own reasons, it really made me think. i’m still kinda confused about my personality type, im usually typed by those terrible online sources as ENFP, but i can really see myself in ENTP. i’m kinda young still (18) so i know i’m probably not developed which probably explains why that struck out to me. i’m a little condescending towards others sometimes when i see them acting ‘illogically’ or, in other words, without a clear and logical reason (that i can see and respect) this most sticks out to me with one of my two bffs. she has been typed (by those inaccurate internet tests so it may not be true, but it seems true to me anyway) as an INFP. therefore, her Te is her inferior function, something which obviously leads to issues as i have a propensity for judging based on logical reasoning. she can annoy me very often because she makes decisions and even asks us (me and our other friend - ENFP) about them but then doesn’t take that advice and she lives constantly in a fantasy world. we get along amazingly because i share that same fantasy world (both of us having Ne high in our stack) but i can also see beyond it to the logical facts she’s missing. you really couldn’t get someone more kinda and considerate than her and i deeply respect that in her. but also, she is VERY emotionally driven with no seeming logic behind many of her decisions. in short, you made me realise that perhaps i should be looking more for whatever reasoning lays behind her decisions rather than dismissing them as her building her life around her fantasies. wow i made myself seem heartless. i swear i’m not a judgemental b*tch. it takes years of minor incidences for me to become so disenchanted, i usually just try to provide my advice on a case by case basis and then only act passively pissed when i’m not listened to. i completely understand that i’m not infallible and that sometimes i don’t know best. when this happens i may possibly have a bit of an argument about it, but i care more about ensuring that i can see the truth of a situation than i do about what i believe. and besides, i don’t want to lose anyone or make them think badly of me just because i think that sometimes they could do with thinking something through a little more.

As an ENTP it’s not that I never come to firm conclusions, I eventually do, it’s that those conclusions are only arrived at after a very lengthy process of debate with others and/or inner Socratic questioning. The belief never fully stops being open to question. The final result is a belief that is extremely robust and very difficult to argue with. I wouldn’t want to firmly believe something without a serious amount of thought put into it. Once we’re at that point though, we can be very firm in our beliefs.

As an ENTP, I have to agree with everything your saying.. I use this analogy a lot when I'm fruitlessly trying to explain how my brain works to the people around me, my brain is like a huge river with hundreds of boats passing either way every minute.. Now the way I see most other peoples brain is like a narrow canal, with boats slowly in single file moving along.. The boats are thoughts in this metaphor, hope this helps fellow entps when trying to explain why people think your an alien

I'd say most of my identity as an ENTP revolves around Fi, meaning it revolves around my complete and utter disdain for the function. Can't help but to feel a gut-wrenching aversion towards having to contain social relations within a Fi framwork, having to "define" and "categorize" relationsships, even ones that doesn't involve a romantic partner. "We're BFF's", and we're 'just' "aquaintances" so it's not really suiting that you ask me to help you move, "why did you make me jealous by talking to my girlfriend"? ... I fucking HATE Fi! It's the everpresent stone within the gears of my being, grinding them to dust and leaving me confused and alone. The very worst part is that it's the function of preference of most of my Swedish countrymen. Swedes are extremely prone towards making distinctions between "inner" and "outer" circles. The only reason Swedes accept so much immigration is due to the fact they consider the nation to always be part of their "outer circle" and therefore irrelevant. Oh how I long to live in a Fe country like America... Less personal conversations perhaps, something I've noticed. Americans seems to be quite offended by questions relating to their personal relationsships... Well... I'd take that every day over the Fi hellhole I live through in Sweden.

An ENTP that is skeptical has sterilized their own mind. ENTP's take to serious occult practice like a duck to water. I know several ENTP's that are successful ceremonial magicians. Any ENTP that denies metaphysics is not really and ENTP. I used to be an engineer, then quit to practice the occult and become and entrepreneur. Best decision I ever made. I am a multi-millionaire after being a drug addict in my 20's. This is excellent. I'm an ENFJ but i process information like an ENTP. I think in terms of correlations (Ne) and causation(Ni). But it makes sense as ENFJs have Ne as their critical parent. Hardest think to me as an entp was to learn to lead. As a teen I got elected as scout leader and until then I allways avoided responsability but I took the chance to proof myself and to learn. It didn't take long to realize that I couldn't question or even explain my self to a bunsh of other kids tired in the middle of a 2 day hike. Reason really does not help at all, most where sentimental and... Well... Kids. So I had to shut up, stop pushing them, stop poking fun, and just get under there arm and pull them along, take their back pack, tell theme that they where right and all of that just to get them to talk. Let alone work together as a team

No one likes me when I argue. Everyone thinks I'm condescending. It's been very hard growing up because I really enjoy the process. But what I'm met with is people that get downright hateful about the discussion. Like you said, 'on edge'. I'm not at all condescending, I'm just willing to try an idea into the ground. Then move along. A lot of people were shocked that I'd agree with them. My experience is that people are afraid of fighting for these ideas, that by their own admission are passionately tied to. I'm not even tied to my beliefs, and I'm at least fighting for them. So yea, it's frustrating. Even after a very loud discussion, I rarely tie a person to their ideas. I can really like a person I disagree with, and that feels like a rarity. I'v honestly learned to be quiet, talk less, interact less, and that's because people are rarely willing to share anything except like....hostility.

nice! as an entp, this is has a high degree of accuracy in my eyes. the only constructive criticism i would give, involves two things.. 1)with regards to that last part bout the astrology, i would just add that another huge reason for the debating, is to change (open) your mind or the others mind. peoples incorrectness affect everyone else too. people think witches are real and a problem.. people are burned alive. a person learns surgery in a back ally in tijuana.. people suffer and die cuz you dont know what ur doing , but u think you do. mystic thinking in all cases is dangerous because it gives made up answers to people to feel good. but while it might feel better to convince yourself that a bus isnt about to kill you.. by doing so, you now are going to die because either way, its headed towards your body. 2) i think truth is the ultimate value for entp. full, complete and objectively accurate truth. incorrect things, unknown things, inaccurate things, misleading things.. these all destroy the individuals right to interact with the world that actually exists in reallity. for instance.. it doesnt matter how much one believes busses dont exist. you die either way when they hit you because they objectively do exist. nomatter how much you feel they dont. objective reallity does not care how much somebody feels that zues is real, or that god wrote the bible, or that a house is haunted, or that republican policies r for the everyman... objective reality just is what it is, no zues, many many human animals wrote the bible, heat changes and convection currents make noises n move stuff in these not haunted houses, and republican platform objectively is billionare tax cuts, restricting womens reproductive rights, restrictive social freedoms, free market anarchy, theocratic autocracy controlled by corporate money. what republican polititions and conservative propaganda media are doing is taking away their viewers (and the rest of ours) power buy convincing the suggestibles that the metophorical bus, which is objectively there and bout to fuck your body up, isnt infact there. they are doing this for the most selfish of reasons. greed. and with zero understanding that our neighbors problems become a problem. there successes and radiant happiness becomes happiness for you. mutual benefit wipes the floor with one way selfishness. knowlege is power, freedom is content, kindness is warm and practical, and purpose or mission is happyness and stimulation. loanliness and sensory deprivation is indescribable writhing pain. bit of a tangent there lol not real sure what the last part there has to do with the rest but eh.. its cool watever all good yssir goodday bye bye

4:40 The advantage of discussing and forming ideas with other people on the hoof, is that the other person gives you another point of view, one which an ENTP may not have considered. This may be because of the other person having a very different personality, direct experience or professional experience. For an ENTP a good conversation is a brain storming session. Which of my arguments were strongest and which arguments the other people in the discussion were the strongest. What do I still not understand, if an action is required which action is most suitable?

It is normal buddy. We are Fi (Introverted Feeling) blind. Introverted Feeling is a system of personal values that apply only to you. And being blind to it doens't mean we do not produce it. It is just produced in a language we do not understand. It is a white noise channel on our life TV. So we should know with Tertiary Fe what our ideal is for a group, or for mankind, but it is almost impossible to place yourself in this equation. So most of the time ENTPs or ESTPs for that matter will sacrifice themselves for the group, take the biggest load of work, because we don't understand our place in our own life. But sometimes, even though we are not feelers per se, although everyone has a feeling and a thinking side despite weakness or blindness in one of those categories, we'll get an almost imperceptible feeling of "something's wrong and I cannot quite define it" => This is your Fi taking over and speaking jibberish to your Fi blind mind.

Wel I don't know how it applies to you, but in my personal life, I've observed that ENTPs or ESTPs do not care how people define them => Lack of Fi. For example I can be called "cold" or "heartless" => to fill the stereotypes. Or in a broader sense I can just let myself get insulted, let myself be called a cunt or somthing, and not give a single fuck. I found that Fi users are more responsive to personal attacks. It doesn't mean EXTPs never get hurt, but what hurts me the most is when someone close tells me I cannot understand. I take much pride in my ability to understand things, concepts, and as Meghan said in the video : reasons for people to do things. So a way to apply a value to yourself is "I don't want to be the cunt". This implies there ARE cunts, and I refuse to be one. No matter the reason to call someone that "you hurt someone" "you don't work well" "you're stupid". Fi will not accept that you ARE this in a certain situation. Sometimes Fi acts in a way that ... well I have friends who can't stand having their mothers insulted for example. That's a personal value. A certain ENFP president doesn't want to be said of him that he has tiny hands. When you say you don't see how a value can only be applicable to you, it is because you are blind to those that are. You Use Extraverted Feeling, meaning that if you ever have to use values instead of logic, you'll use values that Extravert, that expand, that apply to the whole of a group, instead of ones that you hold close to your own self.
