I have learnt so much from Mike Bradley, Andy Crowley and Sam Bell. I feel so lucky I'm learning from the best. I'm nearly 3 years learning and I haven't missed one day doing 1 hour or more 7 days a week. Im determined to become a professional guitarist and don't care how many years it takes. Put the effort and focus in you'll get to where you want. Ty Mike Bradley

You can absolutely play like that! Its the most basic of basic blues pentatonic. Clapton didn't really do much else. In his own words too. 1-2 years of practice tops. If you are already technically OK but just never really learned scales, 6 months!
@TheOnlineBusker4 жыл бұрын
@@cgavin1 Thanks! yeah I pretty much know the pentatonic inside out, maybe I'll give this a go!
@cgavin14 жыл бұрын
@@TheOnlineBusker Its the same old thing: if you have a real passion for somethng you learn much faster than if its just a passing interest. You can still get there, just takes years as opoosed to months. :) Those old bluesmen were obsessed with the old masters. They learned from records, ear trained themselves and played live and jammed every night of the week. Its pretty hard for someone who isn't really talented or dedicted to get that good now. The internet knowledgebase really helps though!

Great Video, Mike. Eric Clapton is a huge influence on me learning to play guitar. The first time I saw him perform, I pledged that I was going to get better playing. I never tried to be great, but I did get better. Learning how to play has made me appreciate what great guitarists like you and Eric can do. I told a friend once, " Everything above the 12th fret belongs to Eric Clapton."

Great to hear your insights Mike! Also... EC's set at Knebworth 1990 wearing a pink suit and him trading solos with Mark Knopfler on the same stage is just some of the most deluxe electric guitar playing you will ever hear! Including snapping a string mid solo! Then Pink Floyd almost getting blown off the stage by a storm topping off the end of the show... What a day!

Most Clapton lead licks can be found on Live Cream volume 2. Steppin Out is 12 or 14 minutes. Originally mislabeled as Hideaway. Worth a listen !

I’ve been trying to figure out why everything looks so much better... it’s the green wall. Looks awesome. Oh, and your playing here is spot on. I got into Clapton in the 80s, which still feels like the ‘late’ Clapton era to me, but it was always the Cream era playing that first came to mind when I thought about his playing. But yeah, Journeyman comes pretty close - I used to jam endlessly over Before You Accuse Me. Favourite Clapton album: 461 Ocean Boulevard - for me ‘Steady Rolling Man’ is probably his best recording as a band leader and singer. The groove on that album is irrepressible.

Hey mike You completely nailed the crossroads solo at the beginning of the video. I love the whole video and I got my first drum kit from Bells music and I saw Clapton in Hyde park in 1996.

Thanks so much MIchael, of course you’re from the same area as me. I wish Bells was there still. I only went in there once when I was 12, so my memory of it is that it was a palace! Haha

Mike Bradley Hey Mike I wish bells music was still there as well, I had several drum lessons there and went to a few drum clinics there. I got to know the manager quite well and it was such a great place where I got to meet lots of different drummers and guitarists that would always be in there.

This was my favorite out of the 3 in the series so far...maybe because I'm more familiar with Clapton's music and love the blues so much, not that I don't love Jazz too, and really enjoyed both the Clayton and Ford episodes, but I'll probably learn more from the Robben Ford episode once I go back over that...those bends, etc...but what I'm really hoping for is an episode I'm sure must be in the making....yes...George Harrison!!!!

Never known anyone to look so different in every photo/video as Clapton! Most strange (brew). Great insights though Mike, once you first throw the major 3rd into minor, it's hard to resist it ! Random thought, opinion on Frank Zappa? For someone so strikingly original, he doesn't seem to get much KZbin time from guitarists. Maybe as he's so 'out there' it's hard to get over what he's doing? Would love to see analysis of him. Thanks again, great video.
@MikeBradleyofficial4 жыл бұрын
I know, it fascinates me how much his look changed back then. Plus when he was 23 he looked 43! Haha I hear you about Frank Zappa, and I’m ashamed I have never really listened to any of his music. I really must change this!

I think the compelling thing about the Tears In Heaven changes is precisely the counterpoint you are emphasising. It’s all over Joe Pass and JS Bach... keeps you moving through the changes with a relentless stride. Playing Tears In Heaven even feels like playing Bach.

In what specially? Certainly not in pushing the sonic boundaries of the electric guitar or putting a show on. Eric is a great singer though. He was also able to adapt to the times which we don’t know if Hendrix could have done.
