I’m definitely doing Goth Lit November again too! I’ve been dying to ask you about it, but I know you’ve had a lot on your plate. Let’s please have some fun chats about it soon because I’ve been planning a bit. I still haven’t read Joan Didion…. Also: laughing about East Coastness. I do see some of that here, but is it really just an east coast thing or is it a wealth thing, or rather, people who care about status? I saw that in a couple here who weren’t wealthy, but determined to meet with a certain status that made me gag. But there are a lot of really great restaurants here, not going to lie, there’s a way to go about it without going broke lol Also I’ve been dying to read Mansfield Park and I don’t know why I haven’t yet.

lol idk what it is! It may be just so different than midwesterness? I’ll tell you more about my theories sometime. I’m down to talk about the tag! Thank god we chose November. I got scared for a sec.

I need to get Committed. I have a book of Plath’s poetry that I should read one of these days but I read The Bell Jar years ago and didn’t love it, maybe just because of the time in my life, so I’ve been putting off reading her poetry. But I should probably get with it! Also curious about your upcoming Brontës and folk horror adventures. 💜

Committed references the Bell Jar A TON. So I'd definitely try to give it another go if you can beforehand. It must have hit me at just the right moments but it has timeless themes like fucked up healthcare and not fitting in and thinking you're wrong for not fitting in, etc. Ok, I'll def do the folk horror themed month!! Thank you

Joan Didion is from California. from like the poorer area of the state where my family is from. That’s my least fav Joan Didion book because I didn’t think she was being honest lol but I haven’t read it since it came out. I actually dont like The Bell Jar. I’ve read it like three times. I always forgot I had because it never impressed me so I’d reread. The perspective felt too narrow. but love her poetry. Her emotionality feels better suited to poetry for me. I’ve recently heard good things about her journals and letters which I have kicking around unread.

I was aware of her origins but idk she’s always hyping east coast life up in her books like I should be wearing a sweater around my shoulders and collecting art or something? Just not a fan!

I highly recommend Red Comet: The Short Life and Blazing Art of Sylvia Plath by Heather Clark.

Ok, perfect. It's on the list but won't make the next vlog. Maybe I'll do a part two because there's a book about Sylvia and the occult...
