Wild Things is such an underrated movie. The epitome of a “Good for her” movie. I also LOVED The First Omen. The Omen is one of my all time favorite movies so the fact that I actually loved First Omen is so surprising. I can’t wait to see what this director does next. I loved her cinematography and I loved that she treated her audience like she knew we were smart. She didn’t just hand feed us everything.

I really appreciate your reviews and wrap ups and I am humbled by your dedication to seeing movies! I love cinema and storytelling but life can get in the way and I'm sad that I don't take the time to explore my favorite art form. Your channel has really inspired me to make time to get catch up on the classics (I recently watched "After Hours" and "Them!" for the first time) and take a chance on what's new (I must admit that "Barbie" and "Civil War" really worked for me.) Anywho, I just subscribed to your Letterbox so even if you don't make a video I really trust your taste in film. I also find your bookshelf impressive and the candle is always a nice touch. Thanks for recomandation! This is what I watched in may: Baxter(1989) is French dark comedy with a dog that keeps having different owners. It's okay overall but it was a bit dissapointing. Then I finally watched Godzilla Minus One.I have to say it's much better than anything americans're trying to do.I really recomand watching it if you haven't.Then I watched Drive (2011).I wanted something chill yet a bit misterious and that's what I got.I also watched The Ministry of UW.I enjoyed but not very much.I gave it a 7.Then I watched Godzilla x Kong.Gave it a 6.Dissapointing villain.Next onto The Fall Guy.Gave it 6.Many unecesary scenes.I wish it was shorter. And I finished the month with The First Omen.I gave it a 7.Probably I didn't apreciated it so much because I haven't seen the original one yet.Maybe after I will watch it I will see it again. And for tv shows I finished Shameless (US).It was a nice ride with a kinda dissapointing ending and some plot holes here and there.

I'm almost done with Fallout as well. As someone that did play a little bit of Fallout 3 and 4, this series shows how you adapt a video game for both gamers and non-gamers. The world building and the characters are what kept me engaged throughout. With this and The Last of Us, it shows that video games can be adapted to TV that can work for both the gamer and non gamer. I've also been watching Shogun and so far I'm loving it. It does get a little too slow at times but its one I can say is worth checking out if you like historical dramas.

After your review I decided to go to the cinema and watch Furiosa. It was a very good decision, the movie's great. It's not Fury Road, but it's still great. So thank you! I also finally picked up Carnival Row, but I have mixed feelings about it. It is well-made, but I didn't really enjoy it that much. I finished 1st season like 3 weeks ago and I'm still not sure if I want to continue with season 2. As for recommendations, since The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare was disappointing, maybe rewatch RocknRolla? This movie is a bit forgotten, but I truly think it's Guy Ritchie's best film.

Recommendations: · Love Lies Bleeding (2024) · Civil War (2024) [Not awesome, since i kind of expected more from Alex Garland, like something else], but worth the watch for the awesome cinematography. · Den Brysomme Mannen (Aka The Bothersome Man) (2006), a really interesting Norwegian movie. · The Other Shape (2022), a really nice animation movie. Those are some that comes to mind right now that i saw recently, oh and by the way, totally agree about the Tarot movie ahahaha.

Coincidentally I just watched Timecrimes last night and thought it was awesome! I definitely echo everything you say. My only complaint is that the choices the main character needs to make to get to where the film needs him to be feel rushed and illogical, but the place it does get to is so great that it's easy to forgive. There's another film you've talked about before with a similar premise that I also love (you know which one I'm talking about), and that film, to me, does a better job of slowly showing and justifying how and why the main character arrives at the place they do. In May, I was mostly in a J-horror mode, the most interesting being Audition, Pulse, and Cure. Audition in particular surpassed my expectations given what I already knew going into it. Pulse was the creepiest, though I'm mixed about the third act. Cure I fully need to watch again because it's such an intentionally off-kilter experience. By the time it ended, I genuinely thought "HOW did we get here???," in a good way. My favorite 2024 film I watched was The Coffee Table. It's FUCKED UP. It's hard to recommend because IF it's the kind of thing you'd wind up liking, you'll wish you knew nothing about it going into it, but it's about one of those "does the dog die?" things where you might want to know the spoiler to decide if it's even worth watching. But it's extremely well made, the acting is incredible, there's nothing else like it, and it's more psychologically fucked, not A Serbian Film/Hostel fucked. Cautiously recommend!

Whew...I'm not crazy after all. Fall Guy fell flat for me too. Fear Ryan Gosling is suffering from Ryan Reynolds syndrome where they play sarcastic wise cracking characters getting by on good looks and charm over and over. Maybe I'm just jealous. I would recommend watching "Sugar" on Apple TV with Colin Farrell. Went from hating it to loving it over course of six episodes. Always great to watch a video from you Marianna.

I keep a google sheets movie/tv list on my phone and have my own ‘Marianna’ column. Added Ad Astra, Timecrimes, and New Life! The fall guy I felt was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It just felt lifeless. Even down to gosling giving blunt a speech about how she needs to make her movie. I just didn’t care. I also didn’t see the full on chemistry there. It didn’t feel natural to me. Have you seen in a violent nature? That was a pleasant surprise for me. I grew up watching slashers though.

Synchronicity: 1st Wild Things watch last week. Totally agree. What a wild hot and sweaty good time thriller. So much fun. But, really, how many cross fades?? First Omen? Hell yeeeeaaah! Also hated immaculate and that made me really not look forward to this one. Holy moley is it good! The lead: best performance of the year. Oscar worthy. Possession meets Carrie meets Julie Andrews. Some weaker performances around her. The usually reliably good Ralph Ineson seemed out of place here. Seriously, the best of the Omen series if not the most iconic (the first, although Damien is my huge guilty pleasure and fave of the original series). The Fall Guy...honestly, I think you're over-praising it. I didn't get that fun chemistry. I got a cynical, self-hating Hollywood cash-in that was scared of the character's emotions. And unsure what film it was. 1st 50 mins an unbelievable rom-com. Then, whoops, stunts...better get action-y. That had no emotion or stakes. Then back to rom-com. A confused depressing mess.
