I rarely get to go the shooting range much as I like because the ones close to me closed up and to go shooting I have to drive a lot further than I want but I get a lot of enjoyment just by taking some of my older guns out to admire their quality of build, beauty of the finish and so on, I have a few handguns that are blued while wiping them down as it makes a rainbow of colors from the light shining on bluing think to myself Man look at that deep blue finish, They sure dont make them like this anymore! Have a few Military surplus rifles like that will rack the bolt a few times and feel the weight of the rifle and think I bet to make a rifle of this quality today it would cost thousands of dollars, even a SKS that was once considered a 100 dollar gun is better in quality that most semi auto rifles you can buy today

I am a “collector” I’m 55 and I have collected firearms since I was 16, I live in Alabama, one of the best places to live to purchase firearms, I go in fill out the paperwork, sometimes I’m out with my firearm in 30 minutes sometimes a couple of days, if I haven’t heard anything by 5 days by law I can pick it up! I have calibers from 22 to 45 in pistols and 22 to 308 in rifles, I don’t accessorize my firearms, I’ve stocked ammo for years, when we shoot we do it at someone’s property and we bring everything we have and shoot for hours! I have 0 regrets about anything I’ve purchased, I love my 2nd amendment right to bear arms!

I dont regret buying too many guns, I regret not buying certain ones when the prices were low , I remember being able to buy WW-2 German KAR 98K Mauser rifles with the nazi mark for pretty cheap along with a lot of other military surplus rifles and handguns that were almost in collector grade condition at gun shows, Used to see Russian SKS rifles for 150 dollars or Makarov pistols , Swedish Mausers , But I was more focused on the AR 15 or AK47 craze 20 years ago, I used to also see plenty of nice Smith and Wesson revolvers for a steal during that time ,because everybody wanted the Glocks and other semi auto pistols with large magazine capacity and the revolvers were overlooked, I should have bought those guns, but at the time I thought, I have seen those old guns everywhere cheap for years and the prices never move, I can always buy any of those guns, But its like the world went insane over night, all of sudden all those old guns that were worthless for decades became better investments than a gun that costs a thousand dollars! For example years ago I bought a stainless steel Taurus PT92 years ago for 400 dollars, it a beautiful pistol that is reliable and accurate, but today it is has not gained in value at all and I would be lucky to get 400 for it and a gun shop would probaly only give me 250 in trade in value, But If I had bought a 100 dollar Mosin Nagant at the same time that I bought my PT92, that 100 dollar Mosin today would have appreciated in value 300% or more

I’ve lived on a farm for the last several decades. Have my own range ( pretty elaborate) and have shot tens of thousands of rds through multiple guns, and I reload. Frequently I’ve hosted new acquaintances and 98% of the time they’ll show up with their entire (or majority) collection and proceed to shoot them all badly. On one occasion I met two guys at a gun store I frequent and when the owner mentioned that I had a range hinting, I extended them an invitation and the next Saturday they showed up with one gun each. One with a Glock 19 and the other with an extremely worn 1911 in 9 mm. ( this was pre 2011s). I, of course showed up with my top 5 favorites. They suggested that we do some drills, and in short order I realized that they were both highly skilled competitive shooters. At the end of our shooting session I thanked them for the training and asked what I needed to work on. One of them suggested a couple of technical things, the older guy looked down at my five prized possessions, smiled and said “BEWARE OF THE MAN WITH ONE GUN”. Fast forward 15/yrs. I still have too many but I only regularly shoot three, my 15 yr old Sig P 238 (EDC), my CZ Shadow 2 range practice, home defense and friendly competition, and finally my Colt 1911 converted to 460 Rowland for my hunting personal protection. I think he’s right to some degree. That said everyone is different and he seems to be trapped in a one size fits all box. For me personally I love to target shoot and obviously home defense. For me it’s 2 rifles, 3 pistols all secured. Reason for 2 rifles is one is none and 2 is one mentality. Reason for 3 handguns is strategic placement in my house. Ammo is a regular purchase that never ends.

I lived in New Jersey for 26 years. Good place to be from! Had a lot of friends and learned to hunt there but I don’t miss it. Florida was good but best so far was Tennessee and now South Carolina. Yep, that makes a lot of sense. I have a 9mm and all that was said is true, but I have a 45 and it’s the most fun to shoot, and I just love the round. I have a 357 snub nose too that’s cool that I reload for. They all serve different purposes, so it makes sense to me. However, if you can keep your guns secure and you can afford it, there shouldn’t really be a limit. You might feel crazy about it sometimes but we should take advantage of our freedom to own what we want. Some people don’t have that choice.

Intended to rewatch the video cuz I think you mentioned something to the effect that you should buy guns that are all chambered in the same caliber. If I have that right, I would challenge you on that, only for this reason: I have a lot of guns (cuz I caught the same illness as you when I first started shooting lol) but the gun I carry is a 9mm Sig Sauer 229 Legion. However during the pandemic, when it was really hard to get 9mm, I was still able to buy .44 magnum, .357, and .38. Not that I was regularly carrying any guns chambered in those calibers, but I still had those options if necessary. Just my thoughts.

I think it depends on who you are. If you feel like you need to buy a new gun because it is better than the one you have, you are probably buying for the wrong reasons. I like buying a variety of different kinds of guns (i.e. revolvers, 1911s, striker fires, etc.). At the end of the day, as long as you use what you buy, you are justified in buying it.

I like the warm & fuzzy feeling of trying to decide which weapon am I in the MOOD to take out today. I do agree to your 9MM ammo falling into the affordability dept! But on the other hand I can’t leave out the FUN I get by using a 22LR either in a AR-15-22, or with my FN502 handgun. On a more friendly basses you reside in NJ, and I reside in a solid Red state, with many Public outdoors ranges so there are so many more options to have fun, we are not restricted to an indoor gun ranges only like in your state.🤝 You should really take a deeper look into the new trend that is taking hold, PC9Carbine Rifles. At min all states should make their CCL’s free for state residents & at most about 50 bucks for 3 years or 100 bucks for 5 years for none residents AND it should take a few weeks at most once all paperwork is submitted so NJ is spot on in the latter part at least. Btw, many parts of PA your walk in with a 2-3 page paperwork & walk out with your CCL in literally 5-10 mins after handing it in! 🔫🦅🇺🇸🙏

Great advice. It is so easy to think "wow, if I could just get that one..." The truth of the matter is that the gun(s) you have now are probably just fine and focussing down on one ammo type (I am at three with 9mm, 357/38, and 45, so that ship has sailed) is sensible. I would add that spending money on a solid laser dry fire product is a good idea. A big issue for most of us is the flinch. I have not gotten rid of it totally but having the dry fire with the laser ammo has helped tremendously.

I would say buy just one 9mm compact handgun for home defense, one slim subcompact 9mm handgun for EDC, one 22lr pistol or revolver for training at the range and one AR-15 rifle in 5.56 will full accessories and red dot for SHTF. Just those 4 guns. Just those 3 types of ammo (9mm, 22lr, and 5.56). . That's the most basic set of tools that you need. It's not worth it to go beyond that if you don't live in rural areas. If you do, then I would add theee more firearms: Only one full size 10mm handgun for beasts protection, one shotgun and one .308 rifle. That's it.

You my friend are missing the point. You logic is flawed and you misguided. People who buy multiple guns are in the same category of people who have 3 or more vehicles. We buy because we like the engineering and purposeful use and then it becomes an “ n+1” situation. We follow trends verses needs. We only need one gun is a deceptive truth. One gun for self protection is true but what about everything outside of self defense. If you have a gun for hunting deer, one for ducks and birds , one for large game, one for concealed carry, one for my spouse, and one to practice cheaply. Putting all those things together under one gun does not compute. We also buy from what we saw on tv or in movies. I watched bonanza, the rifleman, combat, and all the assorted media that glorified certain guns. Buying guns , In my experience is about idenity and recognition. I don’t know any guy that owned guns that doesn’t want or have a lever action rifle , Walter PPk ( the James Bond pistol.) a series 70 1911 , Ruger ranch rifle with folding stock, bond derringer,a Thompson ( Chicago typewriter) an AR -15, and double barrel shotgun, a western single action revolver and a 12 gauge shotgun, just to name a few deep felt desires most gunners have as a collection that spans man’s journey through the history of firearms. I have yet to get to the home self defense weapon or large game or distance weapons. Guns, it is not about what we need , it’s more about the influences we have deep deep in our brains. I call it “subliminal persuasion”. You did speak the truth our left side of the brain understands and agrees with you but the right hand side of our brains don’t see you as one of us. We are irrational and driven by desires, we love the old guns and are drawn to the next great new firearm. It’s the way we are, enjoyed your vid and agree one gun is all you need but what fun is that?

Yes, the S&W 629 44 magnum was an iconic weapon that Eastwood brought to light , and let’s not forget the Ruger mini 14 ranch rifle with folding stock from the A-team or the sharps rifle in Quigley down under. From youth every man child wants a Daisy Red Ryder lever action BB gun, then a Crossman pump .177. We could swap reference weapons all day. You made my point for me. We all have brand name quality firearms associated with media exposure. Television / movie media is the crack where the light gets in. Silence of the lambs Hannibal Lecter said it best ,” we covet what we see”. And yes because of influence of that movie , I did research and buy Glasser safety slugs in 38 special. I haven’t taken them out to the range to test them but they are in my 38 snub nose revolver in the gun safe. We both agree WTSHTF we all have a firearm in our minds to have JI C. For some it’s a 12 gauge , some a black gun ( AR 15 style high capacity rifle) and there’s want a simple wheel gun and there’s always that guy with the 50 caliber Barrett rifle ( the Jeff bridges, Clint Eastwood special weapon from “ thunder bolt and lightfoot “. ). American gun culture is a reflection of what we see in the movies and television and from video games. And it’s a predominantly a guy thing but that is changing. In a world gone wrong, everyone both women and men wants to feel safe and comfortable at home, at an event, at church and when they are at their leisure. Owning a firearm isn’t a mandatory requirement but it does give some a peace of mind. And that’s what is all about. It’s a false narrative to justify having an arsenal and /or carrying a firearm to keep you safe from harm. Stuff happens whether you are prepared or not. Unless you are a police officer or active duty military, you don’t have a prep for danger mind set and practice routinely . To use a firearm against another living thing for self protection is the worst possible scenario with unintended consequences and repercussions. Having a firearm is a tremendous responsibility and should be taken seriously. All that being said , it’s a choice and a privilege not a right. Choose wisely and remember to respect others as you want to be respected.

Spot on. When I wanted my first gun, I wanted an HKP30SK. It was out of my budget. All I could get was just the gun. I ended up with a Taurus G3c, 1 training lesson, NJ CCW permit class , ammo, holster, and a lock box. Still have the G3c and love it. A year later, I bought a Bodyguard 2.0 for deep carry. Love it too. I rotate between them. Soon a AR15. Need to save up😊

I agree, I like guns, was raised in a Ruger/Revolver and Winchester 94 family. We had various shotguns, and various 22s. But the point was to know how to use the gun you had. You didn't "cheat" on your gun. I carried a firearm professionally as a Reserve Police Officer and an Armed Tactical Nuclear Security Officer. I have carried a full-sized Ruger P Series 9mm concealed on plain clothes assignments, and I am a small framed guy. Use the weapon you have, learn how to adapt to your changing environment - the gun you know best, is always your best friend.

Hey Jay, live in new jersey as well. I completely agree with you. Made the same mistake. I always recommend one or two guns. Then invest in ammo and training. Especially a stop the bleed course, basic first aid and cpr. Let's be honest. Chances are you will use that knowledge before any firearm skills. Keep the videos coming. Stay safe. God bless

So I kind of like this, just putting out my two cents on the topic, I personally have three rolls to fill when it comes to firearms: (in no specific order) concealed carry, plinker/training gun, and home defense, that's it. Good point on the training aspect, all three of my guns (two 9mm's and a .22lr) have 1000+ round through them (my .22 has goodness knows how many thousands of rounds through it) all that to say, with each one of these firearms I am very proficient with them.......however, the two 9mm's I have were not the first guns I used to fill those roles, and wouldn't you know it, when I got the replacement gun for said roles, I had to essentially start from scratch when it came to training. All that to say, loved the video, excellent points

Guns historically have a steady upside, they increase in value about 6-7% a year. In the last 4 they went up 7%to 10% each year

People will hate on this take but it makes good sense. You only have 2 hands and a certain amount of ammo. Never understood buying a bunch of similar handguns you won't shoot regularly or even close.

I am not a collector and I'm frugal. I only have 1 rifle and my two regular carry pistols. That's it. I carry every day. I have one pistol for warm weather and another for cold. I'm at the range every two weeks and I train. I want to "second nature" familiar with those two guns. I've no desire for more.

In NJ you can technically apply for as many permits as you want at one time when you fill out the paperwork. 25 bucks a pop now. They are valid for 90 days but auto-renew at the 90 day mark for another 90 days, so they are essentially good for 180 days. One handgun per 30 days means you can get at most 6 handguns within that time frame. Realistically 5 handguns is more doable with the 30 day restriction. I am a fan of having a few different style of handguns and rifles like carry, competition, revolver, da/sa, 22lr, etc.... Everyone is different. I enjoy introducing people to 2A and i can introduce them to a bunch of different firearms so they can make an informed decision when it is time to buy without having to spend a ton on renting. Take that money aspect away and you can open the door for a lot of people to join our community. If you already have the firearms in the safe considering dusting them off, join a 2A club and get involved.

Yea, I miss the days when they were 2 or 3 dollars each! I just dont like the feeling of picking up one of my guns and being "surprised" by how it feels and shoots. I would rather consistency and repetition for the sake of training. Thanks for commenting and tuning in!

Totally agree with you. I made the same mistake. Fortunately I realized that before it got much worse. When I buy a gun, I have a specific purpose for it: this one is for my bedroom, this is my EDC, that one is for my wife, and that's for a SHTF situation etc. I don't buy accessories for every gun. For example, my EDC has no red dot or light because I think they will hinder its concealability, and I don't think a red dot will make a huge difference in a gun fight that happens within a few yards. Still, I would have bought fewer guns if I could go back in time

👍Well said I agree with that ! No red dot on an EDC either..( too bulky) Also having a "back up/ alternate EDC is very important and often overlooked..for example it will be taken for evidence in a self defense situation

I hear you. For a beginner or someone with a limited budget, it is important to strategize and prioritize. Something like this for example, 1. Home defense firearm 2. 556 Rifle 3. CC 4. Plinker 5. Hunting rifle The less calibers and brands the better. Also aware of training and accessories. People can do what they want and what they can afford, but it's seems to me like a lot of people just buy buy and buy aimlessly and I prefer to be more strategic and intentional

I agree. Purchase one gun. Use it for at least once a month for two years. Master the gun and your knowledge of it before purchasing another gun. As they say, fear the man with one gun because he knows how to use that gun properly.

I'm a photographer and this sounds like what happens to people when they get into photography. You need 2 or 3 bodies and 3 or 4 lenses to do professional work. The key is to learn how to use the gear you have. I'm about to buy my first AR and I'm trying real hard not to get G.A.S (gear acquisition syndrome). My goal is 2 handguns, 2 ARs, and a shotgun.
