Try lentils instead of rice. Rice has pesticides. Use green and brown lentils. Wash, drain and cook just like rice. I cup to 1 and 1/4 cups of liquid, water or vegetable stock. Put in rice cooker or on stove. It's also more filling. You can mix it with other grains like barley too. The orange one is mushy, best for soups.

I am transitioning into plant based where I’m 90% vegan and try to eat raw Whole Foods as much as possible. I want to reach a point where I’m 98% vegan and the other 2% is for holidays and big events like weddings. This allows me to feel more at ease with life especially around other family members that aren’t vegan, I don’t want to make my life difficult or explain myself every time in these situations. It’s just what works for me to create more ease with life. Whenever I can control what I eat, I’ll eat vegan but if I am not sure what’s in the food or there’s only meat or other animal foods to eat at a gathering, I’m not going to make myself starve. It’s all about choosing the best you can without being dogmatic about it

Love seeing other black plant based people advocating for this lifestyle. Maybe it's just my area or lack of truly searching online communities, but I'm the only black vegan I know and it can get a bit lonely at times tbh, but this was a breath of fresh air 😌 Also, if I were to give one piece of advice to people trying out this lifestyle, make sure you're eating enough! With the switch to more fruits and veggies, there's definitely gonna be a switch in calorie intake. When I first started, I made the mistake of eating tons of healthy foods, but none of it was that high in calories which left me mad lethargic. But once I researched more on micronutrients (carbs, fats, protein), I began to up my calorie intake and also eat more well balanced and satisfying meals. Try to incorporate some form of protein in your meals as it's the most filling micronutrient out there. The easiest and cheapest ones are obviously beans, seeds, and nuts but tofu is also a super versatile and easy food to get some protein from. Definitely worth your money 💚

I wish I also knew this before switching, lol. God bless you my friend! See you around 💚😊

When I was in New York City there was a completely vegan burger restaurant my fiancé and I went to. I’m pretty sure we were the only white people in the restaurant. Wasn’t the healthiest vegan food out there but it was delicious. I agree that it’s nice to see the vegan/plant-based community spread beyond the stereotype. You certainly aren’t alone, even if it feels that way sometimes. 💜 I’m hoping the plant based movement becomes more normalized among every culture, class, and race. It’s moving in the right direction, but there’s still a lot of progress to be made.

I am on a very low salt diet and feel so much better and BP is perfect now. How low can you go on the salt? i thought you need a minimum per day? Thank you
@ChoosingMyHealth3 жыл бұрын
Hi @frenchustube! The American Heart Association supports 1,500mg of sodium for everyone (less than 1tsp a day). Keep in mind sodium occurs naturally in many foods, like beets, celery, carrots, kelp & dulse (they contain healthy iodine too) so you can get what you need on a low/no salt diet if you are intentional about getting sodium from natural food sources. If you’re concerned, I encourage you to get a blood panel work up to monitor levels. Hope this helps!

Hey girl! God bless you! I hope you see my comment *fingers crossed* I think you are an inspiration to the vegan community first of all and I love how real and positive you are. I wanted to tell you my struggle and get your opinion. Cheese isn't the hardest for me, in fact, I found some amazing vegan alternatives which will never keep me looking back! One of my favorite meals is mac and "cheeze!" What I do struggle with, is sushi... Now that, I need help with, its my all time favorite food, I can never pass it up no matter how it is prepared...I wish I didn't like it at all so it wouldn't feel like I was denying myself something that brings me joy... Ive seen vegan sushi videos, but there is nothing like a slab of salmon or eel sauce or fried shrimp... If only they sold vegan sushi around me...I call myself an almost vegan because its very hard to give up something that gives me pleasure, but I'm sad because these past three months that Ive switched diets (I started transitioning in December 2020), gave up meat and dairy and eggs, Ive done really well eating 95% vegan plant-based, except for that fish part... Im disappointed in myslef cause I wanna be happy without it. Also, its been hard being constantly surrounded by others who only eat dairy products and my husband who still asks for steaks and seafood. Plus i can no longer pick things up anywhere if I need some quick food on the go... Im sorry im burdening you so much with my extensive backstory and struggling journey. I mean, aside from that, Ive done a pretty decent job on my own. Its just I have no one I can really talk to vegan to vegan, its been a lonely journey so far since none of my family or friends are even close in diets to me. To classify myself, Id have to say i follow the okinawan diet closest, as they avoid meat and dairy and eggs with the occasional fish here and there like me. But basically Im a pescatarian who avoids dairy and eggs.. However, I want to be a full vegan, not an almost vegan. Thanks for reading anyway I really, really am asking God to hear back from you...

I was, and still am, the only one in my family who is plant based. They’d even forget to buy foods that i could eat when we went out so I either didn’t eat at all or had to settle for French fries 🍟 instead😒. Buying veggies was something I had to beg my father to do for me so I didn’t have to eat bread/cards on a daily 😣 No one understood my change and everyone would grill my broccoli 🥦 and tofu all the time 🤣 but once I started cooking veggies and my fam started tasting them, my dad would buy more just so I could make it again! 😂 baby steps. Not a very good one. Our goal as vegans is to try and do the very very best we can for the animals… but also to educate people why we are vegan So what kind of message do you thing it sent when you refused to eat something when they went out of their way to do their best to accommodate you and you family… only for you to say … you didn’t do it right Do you think they would ever want to be a vegan - heck no That’s not who we are… we are to try and educate people as to why they want to become vegan GOD BLESS

@@kdm222 My acne outbreak and diarrhea says I won't be eating something made with butter. It sounds to me that grandma did NOT even try to accommodate him. @SageIsabella2 жыл бұрын
@@boethia7367 I agree. I mean, if you knew a family member was lactose intolerant or allergic to nuts, you definitely wouldn't want to cook with any of those ingredients and feed it to them. And I guarantee they'd be turning that food down if it was offered to them. Though veganism isn't a medical condition, being plant based does benefit your health in the long run, and I've known many vegan people, including myself, that suffer the consequences of eating something that was animal based. You feel it! You really do! And I'm not saying you gotta be a total asshole to the person/family member/friend who made food using animal products, but letting them know in a respectful and grateful way WHY you CAN'T eat the food, is okay to do. If my grandma can accommodate my lactose intolerance, she can accommodate my veganism too. If you had a family member or friend who didn't like spicy food and you had made a spicy dish and they told you they were thankful but couldn't eat it, I feel like that's okay and no one should take offense. Being vegan shouldn't be any different! Sure, they COULD eat the spicy food, just as we vegans CAN eat animal products....but the fact is: we don't. Simple as that.

You’re so right about not comparing your plate with others. I have almost failed at veganism because I thought I should be so clean like so many instagramers and youtubers but I have to have some treats once in awhile. So I do allow myself French fries and Impossible burgers and vegan cookies a few times a month and that’s ok. It’s all about progression not perfection.

French fries are fried in nasty conola oil, which is used to oil machinery. Oil in one bag of fries 🍟 damages the arteries, and those fake burgers are bad too, they have fillers, oil, preservatives, Salt 🧂🧂🧂 and possibly kidney killing dyes. 100% whole foods come only from fresh& frozen plants. No other dear... If your going to eat fake foods, fried foods, All foods in cans, pkgs, dehydrated foods & snacks, anything in any PKG has, preservatives, oils, SALTS, SUGARS, FAT, Those are all refined foods, which are unhealthy...I eat nothing but brown rice, a variety of beans, fresh salsa, different vegetables, different fruits, rolled oats, shredded wheat, grape-nuts, fresh unsalted seeds & fresh unsalted nuts, 1.oz of nuts every other day, SILK UNSWEET ALMOND MILK for cereals only,. DISTILLED WATER & REAL SPRING WATER. I am having a great time.. just eat all fresh foods from ground & trees..Vit B-12 . And remember there is hoards & hoards of different vegetables and beans and whole fruits to eat.. I am never hungry.. I use different fresh spices, I am eating dried seaweed for IODINE Vitamins and MORE... BEEN eating two yrs this way and my diabetes is all gone..on no meds, and over 60 now...have all my hair... I use lemons, cinnamon sticks, turmeric, ginger, onions, bay leaves, cloves, garlic cloves, Rosemary, dried orange 🍊 peel,. Hibiscus flowers 🌸🌸, red apples, thin sliced ginger root with skin, all for a tasty hot tea ☕☕... I make hot lemon water too , no sweetener, drink them while there hot..I make a shot glass with, 1 tsp water, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tbs apple cider vinegar, then add 1 tsp raw honey and stir good and drink.. I also take 2 tbs apple cider vinegar everyday as well..having fun watching CHEF RICARDO on utube for different teas...he is good.. I follow Dr ESSELSTYN & DR ALAN Goldhamer on utube. Both of these doctors are the real deal.. both plant based & one is 40 yrs at his own Fasting Clinic. I do intermittent fasting daily, I have a 6 hr feeding window. I fast 18 hrs everyday & eat twice a day. I eat at 10am & 4 pm.. I drink distilled water between 4pm and 10am. I drink spring water from 10am to 4pm. Hope some of this can be of help.

I have been a Vegan for almost 26 years.The first two years were the detox period - that was interesting. I still remember how difficult it was to give up cheese. :-) And the learning curve on creating meals with flavor took a while. I had to learn about herbs & spices especially. I do still use salt & pepper though. Today there is so much info, most of it good, out there, and recipe books, videos, etc. galore. It has been interesting & fun to discover this way of eating over the year. Greater energy, less illness and, in my case, considerably fewer allergies. Get rid of the cholesterol (any animal product or by-product) and things definitely improve health wise. Make sure to eat a variety. It can become easier to stick with "the usual & easy and miss out on the wonderful world of plant food.

The hardest part for me during my transition was the unbelievable level of hostility people would dish out at me about being vegan. They felt it was their mission to "correct" me. I ate plant based for over 20 years. I highly recommend you do diligent research before going vegan, especially if you're in your teens or in your 40s and up. And don't just listen to vegan people/doctors, listen to all perspectives. Really analyze the "research science" they present. You'll find it's not based on science, but rather it's all epidemiology studies, meaning it's questions/surveys. I regret not listening to different perspectives, instead I just sat in the vegan echo chamber. Remember it's your HEALTH, not an ethical, moral, or philosophical debate. All the best to you

Jackfruit: Prepare it so to remove the taste of the brine it comes in. Use it to cook stew, pot roast, shepherd's pie, Mexican food, Italian food, crab-less cakes, practically anything calling for a "meat" source. Cheese: Miyoko's is bomb, she makes a variety of tastes, and nutritional yeast (nooch). Mayo: Veganese, I could eat that stuff straight from the jar. Margarine/Butter: Melt, it's the best, Miyoko's is good, but expensive, then there's Country Crock's Plant-based line. Lunchmeat: Tofurkey. Taste of seafood: Nori sheets, those things on eggplant, is no joke. There is so much out there, I'm not missing anything. Something on the go: Pieology Pizza, they have tons of veggie ingredients, even Daiya Cheeze, and Beyond Meat toppings. Eggs: Just Egg, it's bomb, also Black Salt is a spice that makes anything taste like eggs (Got that tip from Tabitha Brown). Then there's YT, so many inspiring chef's with quick & easy meals. I can go on, and on. Well wishes to you all on your journey!

It helps because I was a former prep cook and know what meals to prep like wraps, rice bowls, etc. thank you so much!

I did keto all by myself! In our family! Now I recently switched to plant based! I eat eggs everyday for years! ! I was afraid of carbs! I missed my love for oatmeal! I’m eating oatmeal with fruit smoothie! I’ve never been going so easily since I started plant food!

I am new the vegan life style because I am choosing my health and because my body can no longer handle much of anything that has animal products in it. But I must say it has been hard because my fiancé is not a vegan. Tho he is choosing a healthy life style we are just going down our own path of being healthy. I’m so glad I came across your channel! Thank you for taking the time and sharing the knowledge!!

I literally just got out of the hospital yesterday due to acute kidney injury. A diet filled with lots of meat and my weakness cheese, also gas station hotdogs. 🤢I was running into renal failure with kidney stones due to my diet and also being a diabetic did not help much. I am 46 and have done a couple Ironman races, played basketball in high school, and was a very active athlete but what you put in your body really makes a huge difference, especially as you get older. So going plant based is not a matter of choice but a matter of life and death for me. I can give up the meat, the cheese is where it will be a challenge. Thanks for all the info and inspiration. I just happened to stumble upon your page at the right time. ❤️

Girl, I appreciate this so much! I’m only 23 and was recently told I have high cholesterol. I need to stop eating meat. I can say that even when I think about it, I gag. I used to love it but it’s gotten pretty bad. So I’ve been thinking for a few months about beginning to transition to vegetarian then the goal is to be full plant based!
@ChoosingMyHealth3 жыл бұрын
Diana I’m so proud of you! You CAN do this. You’re worth it, and it’s one of the best investments you can make for your health. Growing up, I had a lot of ailments including high cholesterol. Everything vanished when I went plant-based. Things I suffered with for years. It was a legit miracle for me. Praying you find your groove, and that you heal 110%!!! If you’re interested in plant-based info for newbies checkout my freebie choosingmyhealth.com/game-changers-opt-in/ Cheering you on babe! Baby steps, right? And remember, progress over perfection matters most. 💜😊

So happy to find your channel. Thank you for this video. My wife and I are going on an extended water fast and then transition over to plant based. Being in our 50’s and suffering on the typical American diet, such a change will be refreshing & very welcome. I’m really excited & looking forward to becoming a healthier “me”- thanks for what you do! 😎

I tried and immediately I experienced a change in energy level and started seeing how my body responded to certain foods. It was amazing. I ran into some obstacles. My hair started thinning and falling out. And it took a long time to make just one meal. These challenges led me to put a pause on transitioning with the idea that one day I’ll fully make the transition. I started looking for KZbin channels to follow and I joined a few FB groups. I’ve been lurking to learn and have been swapping out certain meals for vegan alternatives. This video was enjoyable to watch and very relatable. When I made the switch, so many people had something to say and I loved how regular I was (lol). Thank you for the video.

I am trying to become fully plant based. I sometimes fall of track , because I get tempted by what others eat at home, but I am determined to get over such temptations. Right now I am on a water fast , hoping to break free from wrong eating habits. I thank you very much for your video. It is informative and motivational.

God bless you! This video is so incredibly helpful and super funny. I absolutely love your spirit and love that you are a Child of God. I am a college student who is on a meal plan and doesn't live in a dorm with a kitchen. It would be great to learn how to look for plant-based meals and snacks when I am in the cafe or out grocery shopping for snacks to keep in my room. LOVE your videos! Can't wait to see more!

God bless YOU, Skylar! I'm so thankful you found this video helpful! God works in mysterious ways and sends us the help we need at the right time. And thanks for the great video suggestion! I was once in your shoes! Keeping a blender in my dorm room was super helpful for quick smoothies and smoothie bowls, along with rice crackers, nut butter & bananas for a quick snack. God will continue to bless your journey 💜

Grrrreat vidio. Been plant based now 45 years. At age 77 i am always the liveliest and healthiest in any crowd. I was injured a few years ago when i was running by a car that ran a stop sign, injuring 1 hip and my lower back. At 77 i am now running again. How many people with previous injuries are running at my age? I really appreciated the straight forward accuracy and honesty in your video. I also tell people. There is no reason to eat what i eat. Just eat a variety according to your liikes and dislikes while avoiding animal protein and other junk food. And it does not need to be 100% . One other piece of advice. Make the transition gradually to avoid complications. Again. Thank you!
