I recently bought this out of curiosity since I was already a GamePass subscriber on PC and already own a PS5. I know it's gotten a somewhat bad reputation but it really isn't a poor choice for 1080p TVs. The difference is obviously bigger at 4k but I don't think most people could tell between a PS5 and XSS on a 1080p set. It's not amazing by any means but it's been a genuinely decent system for me. My only actual complaint is that I cannot use the wireless USB soundcard for my headphones that I've been using with my PS4/PS5 and PC. It's no dealbreaker but I really wish Microsoft supported USB soundcards on their consoles.

I bought mine around a week ago and these are the reasons why I chose it: 1) I have a 1080p TV & I'm not gonna buy a 4K one. 2) I only play 1 at most 2 games at a time so storage is no issue for me. 3) Easiest way to get to 9th gen gaming. 4) That price with that much horsepower and game on Game pass is a HUGE bargain. 5) In my country, Consoles (actually everything!!) are pricey (IRAN), so although I had money to buy Series X because of STUPID and I really mean STUPID prices for games, Not having a 4K TV so I have no use for the more powerful hardware and liking it's smaller form factor, Series S was my choice. I was able to get an Xbox Series X at launch and just snagged a Series S for another media room in my house. Series X is definitely worth the additional cost if you have 4K tvs or monitors (at retail price), but the Series S really performs quite well. The value for being able to play current gen games throughout the lifecycle with 120fps is honestly impressive. I think Xbox knocked it out the park by providing a console that will suit many needs. I think plenty of die-hard Playstation folks will end up with a Series S in their entertainment center as well.

I have a PS5 and I bought a series S to give a try to the Xbox for the first time. Overall, I think Xbox software is much more polish ans implements very useful features. I like the play anywhere thing and the cross buy of games between PC and console (i bought games on Xbox just for this reason, this on PS is unthinkable at the moment). I also like the Microsoft Rewards program. What I didn't like is the space availablenfor games, using Game Pass requieres lots of space to try lots of games. I had to bought the expansion memory card, and then realize money would be better invested on a Series X (although, I found series S can be more easily move to my friend's house). On the other hand I found Xbox's achievements far less interesting than the Playstation trophy system...

That's strange because I have always felt the exact opposite about trophies vs achievements. Maybe I'm biased as I spent my childhood beating Halo on laso difficulty or just preferred the achievement scores as opposed to the silver, gold and plat trophies. I just found it bland, even the pictures and all that just seemed better for Xbox or that it was displayed so much better. I haven't played a PS game since ps3 though. I also hated Steams trophy system. Think I been playing Xbox too long to switch as far as my profile achievements go. As long as I can play my fps games at 120 fps 1080p I am happy, specially with the increasing popularity of cross play and playing against pc players who are rocking 180+ fps and a far better input

The 2.0 cable CAN be a problem because even if the game isn't being rendered at 4k you are still asking the console to output an upscaled 4k image + all the extra features you can enable and its possible to run out of bandwidth which will result in screen going black randomly or other weirdness. This exact thing happened to me and I had to swap it for a 2.1 cable to correct.
@BusyDadGaming3 жыл бұрын
That's a great callout, thanks for letting me know that! I haven't ran into that issue, but it makes sense that it could happen with upsampled content.
@WolfgangN.22 жыл бұрын
There's no such thing as an "HDMI 2.0 cable". Any high quality HDMI cord supports HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1. Whether it's HDMI 2.1 is determined by the actual HDMI port on the device. The series S has an HDMI 2.0 port because it can't do 4k 120hz. 4k 60hz on the other hand is supported by HDMI 2.0. I had to set my tv input settings to HDMI 2.1 in order to enable 4k HDR on my series S. But HDMI 2.0 is fully compatible with 4K 60hz HDR. HDMI 2.0 supports 18Gbps. For example, my 1080ti only has an HDMI 2.0 port, the only way it can output 4k 120hz is through display port. But 4k 60hz HDR works fine, even with an old HDMI cord that I bought 5 years ago. Low quality HDMI cords might not work though. So like I said, HDMI type isn't determined by the cable you're using, it's completely dependent on the actual HDMI ports/hardware. When HDMI cables are labeled as HDMI 2.0 or 2.1, it's purely marketing.
@BusyDadGaming2 жыл бұрын
@@WolfgangN.2 - You're correct, low quality cables may not work, that's def one thing to look at. In terms of cables themselves, you're right in that they aren't associated by their HDMI version (i.e. 1.4, 2.0, 2.1, 2.1a), but rather via High-Speed, Premium High-Speed, and Ultra High-Speed. A "high quality HDMI cable" may or may not support the port version you have. The cable versions are as follows: High-Speed is associated with 1.3 and 1.4. Premium High-Speed is associated with 2.0, 2.0a, and 2.0b. Ultra High-Speed is 2.1 and supposedly 2.1a. The port determine what version of HDMI is being used and is backward compatible with older versions of the format. However, the cable does need to be at least the HDMI port version (or higher) to get full use of that port version. Hope that helps clear up any confusion.

It can def be difficult to tell the difference, especially on a TV that has really good image processing. 2 other things you should know that might help you out...as far as "play anywhere" games...if you have games on series s/x and want to play them on your PC they don't technically need to be "play anywhere" titles.... All you have to do is open the Xbox app (if you have it on your PC) select "console streaming" and you literally will tap into your series s and play whatever games are on your hardrive.... You can do this on phones and tablets as well, while you're away from home. Just know it may not run smoothly depending on device and internet speeds.... As far as storage goes, you can plug in any 3.0 USB drive whether it's hd or SSD into the series s and store your games on that, although you won't be able to play optimized series s games like flight simulator from it but you can play backwards compatible games off of it so everything from xb-1 and below will run just fine...however you can still store series s games on it and then just transfer to the internal drive when you want to play them... The benefit is you can get a 1tb hd or SSD for a lot less than the official expansion card, or a 2tb, or even a 4tb for a bit less or roughly the same price as the expansion card.
@BusyDadGaming3 жыл бұрын
Makes sense on both counts. As long as they are games that don't really need precise timing, streaming is def an option. I have a USB SSD plugged into my Series X for that reason. I tend to use the storage card for games between consoles more than anything else. It's a great suggestion.

I'm looking at upgrading from my Xbox one to a series s and this video confirmed my decision. the only reason I'm looking at an s not an X is the severe price involved. even if I was able to afford the console, there's no real benefits that I could get out of it due to limitations of peripherals. for example, I use a 1080p 80hz monitor so there isn't really any point in getting the X over the s in terms of graphics

I can give 5 very important points 1.You use a ultrawide FHD monitor with 120 hz and above refresh rate (ultra wide FHD is inferior to ultrawide QHD but most games actually are at 1080 not 1440 or 4k although series S is optimum at 1440 on 60 fps so its up to you but you wont go wrong with UWFHD ) 2.You play gamepass and get other game on offer 3.You play 3 to 5 games at a time in a view of the small storage (with addition of a good wifi so you dont mind deleting or redownloading new games from game pass) 4.You have a switch or/and ps5 as a compliment 5. DONT BUY EXTRA STORAGE(seagate SSD) IF U GONNA GET A SERIES S ,THAT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE(ITS 200 USD)

Hi, can you give me some of your idea? So i never own xbox before and I would like to try and dive into xbox game pass because there are some games that i really interested to play with and for me i think it's really great value compare to you buy new games that already in game pass (such as physical disc). So i have a plan to save some money to buy ps5 because i own 4k monitor but i'm still not quite there yet and when i already can buy it maybe i will busy later and don't have much time because i already work. For now i can buy the xbox series s and later save some money again to buy ps5 when the price drop quite a little bit. So, do you recommend the xbox series s? or buy xbox x instead? I recently bought 4k monitor because i want to pair it with ps5 because i thought it will look good when ps5/xbox series x connect to 4k. Do you think it's still look good on xbox series s to my 4k monitor? Thank you
@jeofthevirtuoussand3 жыл бұрын
The only thing everyone need to know is the backwards compatibility. On series s it's the Xbox one /s On series x it's the Xbox one x It basically means that if you want to play a game which isn't optimized for next-generation, you'll be stuck with the Xbox one version of the games on series s. Aka ( " the name of the Game you want to play" butchered edition. )
@BusyDadGaming3 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. The Series S version will NOT be the One X Enhanced version, but rather an upscaled version of the One with potentially higher FPS.

My Xb1x died, luckily BlackFriday occurred. $250 isn't a big price, so I purchase Series S (PS5 available if you are willing to pay $1000-$1100). I hope I choose the right decision. I want to experience 60fps on fallout 4 goty and skyrim.

Series S will do 1080p at 60hz from what I understand. I haven't played either game in quite a few years. Over time as the Series X and PS5 become more available, you can always upgrade.

My question is will the generational changes make the S obsolete faster?
@BusyDadGaming3 жыл бұрын
It's possible. I do see a refresh of the Series S in the next couple of years, but the question is whether it will be a more powerful version or will just have more storage. I would bet on a Series S refresh though, but whether it will render the current version obsolete remains to be seen.
@jkidd76082 жыл бұрын
Curious...I would not be getting game pass. Is the series S still worth it for me or is this machine made more for game pass? I'm fine with digital games but I generally buy them cheap on PS4. Does Xbox have good sales on digital games or do they basically keep games at full price so people lean more towards game pass? I can't game often so game pass is a waste for me. I'm more into purchasing a game on sale for $20-$30 and taking my good old time to finish. Like I just got Valhalla for $15 and am fully expecting it to take me a year to finish. Was ready to buy a PS5 but you know how that's going. Was thinking of getting a series S for some newer games like eSports boxing, EA PGATour, and more while I wait likely another year for a PS5.
@BusyDadGaming2 жыл бұрын
Whether you get Game Pass or not, the system is still a great console. Microsoft is always running deals on their digital games so no worries there (which also includes their first party titles). Unlike Playstation (which is why they are currently being sued), you can buy digital games through other retailers, not just Microsoft so if you find a great deal, you have choices.

My friend, the xbox Series S DOES come with a HDMI 2.1 cable. I own both the X/S. Its also stated on the box.
@BusyDadGaming2 жыл бұрын
The Series X comes with an "Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable" and the Series S comes with a "High Speed HDMI Cable". The difference is the Series X comes with an HDMI 2.1 cable (per their support page) and the Series S comes with an HDMI 2.0 cable. Not to mention the Series S can't do native 4k/120hz so it doesn't need an HDMI 2.1 (or an HDMI 2.1a) cable. I took a quick look at the box since it's been a while since I have and it also states "High Speed HDMI Cable" on the box I have. I looked at the most current versions of the box and saw the same thing. Can you share what your box says in case I'm missing something?

As a gamer dad with 2 kids that play Warzone, Halo etc and play on a average HD TV is series S great enough or is the X that much better? Plays on PS4 right now.
@BusyDadGaming3 жыл бұрын
If you're on an HD TV, the Series S and X will pretty much look the same (with the Series X maybe looking slightly better, but most won't notice). Series S would make the most near-term sense. Then when you're looking to upgrade your TV, then I'd consider a Series X.

It's really a personal preference and makes sense if you're already paying for PSN. Nintendo Online, for me, isn't worth it at all. It's also a much lower price point compared to both PS and Xbox.

I'm a stay at home dad that works night and watches my boys during the day while the wife works. I bought the Series S because I play on a 1440p 165hz monitor so 4k gaming was of zero interest to me. While this is a informative video none of what is presented is really not common information that's already been put out before. Yes the Series S has limited storage. That's why the storage expansion card or an external drive is a must purchase. As for changing display settings...isn't that almost always the case nowadays with people playing on different things be it a monitor or tv?
@BusyDadGaming3 жыл бұрын
This video is geared more towards those that are looking to buy a Series S console and are doing some research from a certain perspective. In relation to display settings, the Series consoles don't automatically detect and apply video settings. It's a common misconception that they do. I've tested it across 4k/120 TV, 1440/170 monitor, and a 1080/144 and I manually had to go in and adjust settings each time. It tends to default to 1080/60 otherwise. If someone isn't tech inclined, or is new to console gaming, this could be impacting them and they don't know it.

Great video, super informative. I got my Series S 2 weeks ago and the storage is killing me. Halo Collection, Madden, Sunset Overdrive, and Halo Wars 2 just about taps you out. Going to have to get the separate SSD. Subbing to your channel.

Thanks, I appreciate you watching and subbing! Yeah, you could get away with an USB SSD for probably the next year or two. The games you mentioned are all non-X|S games so you could run them off of the hard drive and keep the internal space for just X|S games.

That's not how up sampling works... if the Xbox does up sampling and turns the 1080p signal to 4k the TV just sees a 4k signal and doesn't up sample... you cant up sample twice, that doesn't make sense.
@BusyDadGaming2 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you allow the Xbox to do the upsampling, the TV (if it has the capability) will still process the image. You are right in that it may not technically be upsampling again, it's still processing the image after it's been upsampled. This can result in a potentially better image, but not always. If you set your Xbox to "Allow 4K", the Xbox will allow the TV to upsample instead of the Xbox. What will also be interesting is when FSR is more widely used (and Xbox adopts it at the driver level), how that will improve the image quality. Driver level isn't as ideal as game engine level, but still better than nothing (generally speaking).

If you already have the games installed and you move the external drive from another Xbox to a Series Xbox, it'll read it just fine (Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles have the same base operating system).
