I’m so sorry this was your experience. I walked from SJPP to Puente de la Reina this year and had to stop due to an infection and hospitalization. I enjoyed the success I had but have yet to decide whether to try and finish or not again. 😊

I have walked the Camino Francés twice, and I’ve never witnessed the behavior you describe. Yes, there are times when the trail is crowded, but most pilgrims manage to find a bed. Embracing a positive attitude and overcoming daily challenges are essential parts of the pilgrimage experience. The Camino isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. I truly hope you discover your own perfect journey. God bless!

And, did 30+ Kilometers a day. That means you walked less than ten days.

I don’t know when you last walked, but I just finished a walk and she’s not exaggerating at all. I went in thinking I could book day of as I arrive and found out quickly I was having to book at least 3 days ahead to make sure I could get a room. It’s gotten super crowded, there was never a moment where we were alone, even in the afternoon. It didn’t bother us, but I can see why it could be overwhelming for others.

Saloua, what an eye-opening video. Thank you for your honesty and not sugar-coating your experience. I think it’s good to get all perspectives because everyone’s experience is different. It’s so easy to blame the victim because that was not your experience. Keep up the great videos.

thank you for your honest review Saloua! I friend of mine did the Camino in 2013 *and raved about it* and it got me thinking about one day doing the Camino as well... I've been watching videos about the Camino and gathering the information to see if it's worth it or not... I didn't experience racism in Spain when I was there but I did experience racism in Wales U.K. so I can definitely relate...

I don’t know many people who do the exact same route 3-5 times. “Camino” is a catch-all for multiple different routes and can even refer to other pilgrimages altogether (like Via Francigena).

In terms of being crowded, it is only the Camino Frances that is overcrowded. I walked Camino Portuguese, which is the second most popular and I met maybe 20-30 people per day doing the same thing. Never had any issues with accommodation either, even if I start and finish the day very late.

Racism will be experienced everywhere. I being a Latino man, I have experienced it in every country I've ever visited. Even in my ancestorial country of Mexico. You have to do two things when that happens. Call the offender on their bull shit and let it go. Don't let them get away with it (perhaps they will learn and grow) and don't let it drag you down. I want to go on a Camino soon. I have heard differing opinions on how Spanish people can look down on other Non-Spanish (Spanish speaking people) and I have heard the exact opposite. Guess I'll just have to find out for myself. Fingers crossed.

Good video we just finished the Camino from Saint John to Finisterre we booked most the day before or morning of using WhatsApp and had no problems and as far as crowds we had days when we only saw one or two pilgrims because we stayed off stage a lot

I see a significant difference between your expectations and reality. In reality, if you want private rooms on the CF, you book well in advance.

I too have experienced hardship on the camino, mainly because of overcrowding and too many people booking accommodation in advance. I have been on the camino Francés three times and finally, in April this year, on the Portuguese camino from Porto to Santiago. I have met some wonderful people but I've also come across a lot of people who ask very personal questions.... they seem to think they have the right, just because they are on the camino too, to ask all kinds of intrusive questions about a person's life. Not ok.
