What if Episode 6 blends together two films...Iron Man and Black Panther. In this reality, Erik Killmonger takes Tony Stark into his confidence to gain control of his tech...then tricks him into creating evil Iron Man suits. It was all a ploy to gain the trust of the Wakandans and become Black Panther.
And yet, some of the Easter Eggs and connections are startling. The episode leads us to believe that Toby synthesized vibranium in Iron Man 2. It shows that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is even more connected than we thought--and that Erik Killmonger is one of the greatest MCU villains of all time.

I totally forgot that Shuri at this point during the first Iron Man movie was still around 10 or 11 years old. The events of the Black Panther movie wouldn't be until 10 years after Iron Man. @irasnalida
@irasnalida 2 жыл бұрын
Tony didn't make Vibranium in Iron Man 2. If it was Vibranium then Jarvis would say "Sir you created Vibranium" because they already know Vibranium exist so they know it's composition and atomic number. The element Tony created was similar to the Tesseract which contains the Space Stone. His father studied the The Cube and devised a new element, which Tony synthesized in his basement. We know this because Tesseract can be used as a battery for clean and renewable energy. Because this element was similar to Space Stone is the reason why Loki wasn't able to mind control him with Mind Stone in Avengers.

@thealmightytruffles9622 2 жыл бұрын
first off, the scepter couldn't affect him cause of the reactor in his chest. second as Ryan said, the novelization even said it was vibranium, well, synthesized vibranium. the novelization came out a few months prior to iron man two. also jarvis couldnt have known it wouldve been vibranium cause keep in mind, he was created by tony with stuff tony had access to, his father had vibranium and knew about it, and the black market keeps low key about things.
@irasnalida
@irasnalida 2 жыл бұрын
@@thealmightytruffles9622 what if the writers just searched for a fictional element in Marvel Comics and named the element Tony made Vibranium.... They just needed a name for it. After all Vibranium is the magic metal of MCU, the writers can make it do whatever they want to.... Don't forget that before making the element Tony read his father's notes. And Tony was taking his own notes from that. On one of the page we even see a cube representing the Tesseract. His father had worked with both Vibranium and Tesseract. So there's no doubts that he did research on both and knew about the atomic structure. (The new element Tony made can be a mixture of both) As far as mind control is concerned, I think Hawkeye was wearing some clothing and bullet proof vest which still covers his body. So it shouldn't work on him either for the same reason it didn't work on Tony. Plus it's mind control not heart control...lol I don't think it matters where you touch the person.

@@thealmightytruffles9622 There's a huge difference between the element created in Iron Man 2 and the element created in What If. The points (I'm not sure what they are...quarks maybe?) in the element in Ironman 2 form triangles, while the element on What if form hexagons. Plus any novelizations before Phase 2 aren't really cannon as they were overseed by Perlmutter and Geoff Johns therefore not overseed at all.

Tony was 21 when his parents were killed (born 29 May 1970 they died 16 December 1991). Obadiah had a few weeks, maybe a couple of months, as interim CEO before Tony recovered from their deaths and asserted his control. He took over the company almost immediately, not years later. Obadiah was never anything more than the COO (Chief Operations Officer) and business partner to Howard and later Tony, for any significant time. He didn't have years running the company only to have Tony take over at 18. He may have covered for Tony when the latter was being irresponsible, but the Starks maintained personal control for all but those few weeks in almost 70 years (1939-2008).

I believe the difference of this timeline was that T'Chaka didn't kill Killmonger's father, Killmonger was telling the truth when the told Tony he died via "gang violence", this is why Killmonger wasn't as resentful to Wakanda as he was in Black Panther and why he didn't kill T'Chaka. I'm guessing that the remote Killmonger used was designed to make the Liberators reactivate, but without their link to JARVIS, so they fell back to their default programming. He wanted an enemy that would look scary, but actually be fairly easy for the Wakandans to defeat. Personally I thought this one was the least interesting so far, but it was still enjoyable enough to see the Wakandans, Killmonger and Klaw again. What's useful for The Watcher is that Tony never becoming Iron Man leading to a ripple effect; what would the Avengers look like? What happens in the fight against Thanos? Without Tony's famous "I'm Iron Man" snap, how does the fight with Thanos end? Remember that it was Tony Stark who designed the tech for the time heist, so without Tony, Thanos's snap is probably permanent. For the *Watcher, this is the Universe where half of life gets wiped out permanently.* That sounds like a big deal!

At a guess the super effective killer, Killmonger, hit Tony's brachial artery (or given the more central location, the sub-clavian artery), with the spear itself compressing and sealing the wound. Eric then approached Tony and forced the spear deeper while twisting it, opening the wound completely and tearing that artery (a trick the Gurkhas used on the femoral artery, twisting the blade to prevent the ways the body reacts to prevent major blood loss from major vessels being transected). Completely sever either vessel, as Killmonger appeared to do, and the massive blood loss would render you unconscious in as little as 15 second, with death following a minute or two later. We only see him use the knife on himself, not Tony. Which, oddly, means Tony was dead already. Remember, each scar was a confirmed kill, he likely wouldn't mark himself for a knockout or in advance.

“It’s unlikely that killing one air force colonel…” Are you kidding me!?! Wars have been started for MUCH less. Let’s also remember that Rhodey was also super celebrity, America’s favorite son Tony Stark’s best friend. On top of General Ross itching for a fight, it makes sense. America’s Adventurism in the real world is notoriously overreaching. Especially if they think the country/people/region are inferior. I’m sure the MCU’s America is no different.

@darkamora5123 2 жыл бұрын
Get hit in the right place (brachial or sub-clavian artery) and a shoulder wound can render you unconscious in as little as 15 seconds, and dead in a couple minutes. Looking at it, probably the sub-clavian (which is between your clavicle, or collar bone, and your uppermost rib) and not the brachial (which goes below your shoulder joint running deep in your armpit). They are both major vessels that are under a LOT of pressure (like the carotid in your neck) because of their size and proximity to your heart. Completely transecting either of them (cutting or tearing them all the way across) would spray blood like a proverbial firehose. There really is no good place to suffer penetrating trauma like that to your torso, or high on your extremities. Especially with someone like Killmonger, who'd know exactly where to hit for it to be quickly fatal.

I loved this episode of *What If...?* and the way Killmonger's strategic thinking was put on display shows why he is the best and most thorough villain in the MCU (well, until *Kang,* natch). When Klaue called him "boy" I said out loud "BOY?!!" and my expression and Killmonger's were the same. I loved that touch from the director, writers and animators. They captured the Black Death Glare really well.

About General Ramonda, as this takes place way before Black Panther. She's still the Queen. It may be that whoever is Queen will be General. So when T'Chaka dies, she's no longer the Queen and retired. But we can see this beast avatar of Queen Ramonda in Wakanda Forever. I actually have doubts if Black Panther 2 fully takes place in the future 🤔

I think the spear in Tony's right shoulder is meant to parallel how he was impaled with shrapnel in the sacred timeline on his left side, close to his heart. Killmonger spared his heart because of their time together but had to kill Tony, in comparison to how he enjoyed killing Klaue and Tchalla to some degree

Interesting detail - Killmonger's strategy to win T'chakka's trust is basically the same as Loki's in the movie, Thor: remove the beloved son from the scene, entice the enemy to enter, kill them in front of your family to earn their trust, prove that you are worthy of succession/ adoption into the realm/kingdom, and finally, become that successor to the noble position. In this What If episode, the tactic worked, in the case of Loki, it backfired to him. Also, while Loki was doing this, he made a visit to Thor (exiled on Earth) in what was supposed to be his last conversation with him. Here, Killmonger also had a final conversation in the ancestral plain with T'challa before he finally became Black Panther. The required intervention by good willed companions happened in time (Lady Sif & Warriors 3 was able to reveal Loki's scheme) to save Thor and prevent Loki from succeeding in his scheme. In this episode, Shuri's intervention is a little late to save T'challa but, who knows, maybe she has enough time to prevent Killmonger to continue his evil plan.
