5:11 I love how Captain Marvel refers to Ultron as "Skynet" the artificial superintelligence from the Terminator films. And then goes to say "I've seen the killer robot movie" referring to Terminator (1984) then she says something along the lines of "I really don't think it needs a sequel" a nod to the fact that Carol Danvers left Earth before Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) released so she has no idea that Terminator got a sequel or that it's one of the best sequels of all time. 12:39 A universe where Steve Rogers becomes a politician instead of joining The Avengers and later becomes the President. I'd vote for Steve Rogers.

For a lot of these, the original actor wasn't avaialbe (like Scarlett Johannsen and James Spader) so they got someone else instead. (Ultron was voice by the same guy who played Red Skull in Infinity War and also played him in the first episode) Most of the time, it's not a big deal, but Spader has such a distinctive way of speaking that's it's really noticeable that someone's replaced him here.

The watcher has an oath with other watchers. Both in the comics and mcu, there are several different watchers for other universes. We saw them in the guardians of the galaxy two movie in two scenes listening to Stan Lee tell stories. This particular watches name is uatuh. He is the most known watcher because he is the one who often interferes in things and breaks the oath.

I get pretty misanthropic at times, so I get it. However, he's not just talking about homo sapiens. He's talking about absolutely everything, right on down to the smallest microbe. But I guess the scenes that followed drove that home.

Hey, Emme! A very loose adaptation of the "Age of Ultron" comic event which lent its name only to the MCU film. The point of divergence was that Ultron managed to complete his download into the synthetic organic body crafted by Dr. Helen Cho's cradle which, in our universe, birthed Vision during the events of "Age of Ultron" in 2015. Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dark Strange are the only original actors in this installment. Lake Bell subs again for Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Josh Keaton subs again for Chris Evans as Captain America, Mick Wingert subs again for Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man and Alexandra Daniels subs again for Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. Ross Marquand, who plays Aaron on "The Walking Dead" and who reprised his turn as Red Skull in "Infinity War" and "Endgame" for the first episode of "What If...?", subs for James Spader as Ultron in this episode. All of the replacements are reasonable facsimiles but Bell and Marquand are eerily uncanny! Terrific opening action sequence in nuclear winter Moscow with Mad Max Nat and a cloaked cyborg Hawkeye! Flashback to the Hub in Oslo where Tony found the remnants of JARVIS preventing Ultron from acquiring nuclear codes in our universe. However, in this universe, evil Vision has killed or incapacitated Cap, Thor and Hulk! Amid the shattered shield, fallen hammer and crumpled green goliath, Iron Man pleads with his creation to no avail as Ultron unleashes the world's nuclear arsenal. General Ross watches from NORAD while Clint and Nat watch from a satellite-bound Quinjet as nuclear fire envelops the globe! From the landing deck of Avengers Tower, Ultron surveys the ruins of New York City and relishes the "peace" he has brought only to be interrupted by an Infinity Gauntlet-bearing Thanos arriving three years ahead of schedule to add the Mind Stone in evil Vision's brow to the other five he has already gathered. Sensing the power and kinship of the other Stones instantaneously, Ultron reacts too quickly for Thanos to anticipate and he slices the Mad Titan right down the middle with a precise laser burst from his forehead! Ultron gains cosmic knowledge and power with the Infinity Stones and, armored in a vibranium shell, sets out in a spacefaring sphere with legions of drones to cleanse the universe of organic life! Asgard falls! The Sovereign falls defended by Star-Lord, Drax and Gamora! Sakaar falls defended by Korg and the other gladiators as the Grandmaster helplessly watches! Ego's world falls! Xandar falls defended by the Nova Corps and Captain Marvel who grapples with Ultron at the planet's core before he obliterates the entire solar system! Ultron surveys the infinite quiet of his cleansed universe and, like Alexander the Great, nearly weeps for there are no more worlds to conquer. That is until he hears the Watcher's narration and becomes aware of the multiversal barrier! For the first time, the Watcher knows fear! At the KGB Archives in Moscow, Clint and Natasha search through endless boxes of analog hard copies finding nothing but Red Guardian's shield when Clint finally gives up hope out of grief mere inches from the solution in Arnim Zola's file. The Watcher observes breathlessly urging Clint fruitlessly to persist while Ultron continues to probe for an entry to his domain! Nat picks up where Clint left off and finds the Zola file directing them to the Hydra base in Siberia from "Civil War" much to the Watcher's relief when, suddenly, Ultron shatters the barrier into the multiversal bleed! At the Siberia Super-Soldier base, Clint and Nat boot up Zola, convince him to aid them with a little water torture and download him into a USB-tipped arrowhead as seen in "Avengers". They tip off an Ultron-bot to their location and, when the horde arrives, they spike a drone with the arrow and nab it. The Zola-drone blasts the hive with his code but fails to supplant the Ultron program because Ultron himself is no longer in their universe! Racing up the silo where Bucky and Steve fought with Tony in "Civil War", Clint takes a hit and dangles from the ledge with his wrist gripped by Nat. In a reversal of "Endgame", the grief-stricken Clint buys Nat a getaway by slipping free of her grasp and firing an explosive arrow into the horde as he falls! Back in the bleed, evil Vision punches Uatu through the multiversal barrier onto a lush jungle world that is promptly laid waste to clear space for an awesome duel! "You cannot compute the power of my will!", declares a Kirby-armored Watcher! Infinite Ultron slugs Uatu through one multiversal barrier after another enlarging in size to consume an ENTIRE GALAXY in one universe which sends Uatu hurtling through another multiversal barrier! That's a move straight from the BEYONDER's playbook! Uatu lands in the Times Square of a universe where Steve Rogers is being sworn in as President of the United States on a jumbotron in front of the pineapple shirt-wearing guy who witnessed the arrival of Party Thor in Vegas in the Episode 7 universe. Pineapple Guy has a knack for being at ground zero! Infinite Ultron pounds Uatu into a New York dominated by Wakandan architecture and populated by Wakandans who apparently control the Earth of that universe. He then pounds Uatu into a New York dominated by medieval architecture and populated by people in medieval dress. This is followed by a New York populated by Skrulls followed by a rapid succession of multiversal poundings that end in a New York gripped by an Ice Age! Infinite Ultron seizes Uatu by his brow and tries to crush his skull but the Watcher escapes into a pocket universe leaving the android with free reign over the bleed. A shadowy, slithery beast approaches Uatu and resolves into Dark Strange in the pocket mirror dimension that is all that remains of his universe from Episode 4. The Watcher morosely tells the sorcerer he is out of options but Strange gloats at this reversal of fortune and demands the Watcher humble himself. Uatu has no choice but to break the sacred oath of his people and he beseeches Dark Strange to help him interfere. A remarkable episode that sets us up for an exciting finale!

the watcher comes from fantastic four comics back in the 60s. his people are a benevolent species that decided to share their knowledge with others. but the watchers weren't unanimous -- some warned of unintended consequences. one species used the watchers' gifts to make terrible weapons of war and annihilated themselves. afterwards, the watchers unanimously swore never to meddle with other species ever again.
