I know this is months down the line from when you posted this video, but there’s theories that the Carthaginians knew of the Sargasso Sea. The region of the Sargasso Sea was apparently talked about in a poem, maybe a bit of historical writing, from a 4th Century Roman writer. Apparently the writer talked about a place in the Atlantic that was nearly free of wind and was calm. This report, according to the writer, came from an earlier Carthaginian account.

3:18 I don't want to get to technical, especially since your a small alt history channel BUT as a learning experience Rome did not recover as easy as you may think Rome was devastated specifically at JUST the battle of Cannae losing 20% of Rome's entire male population and earlier at battles like Lake Trasimene losing significant amounts, Hannibal was a beast and realistically after Cannae should have just marched to Rome's walls besieged the city, and won. He fumbled the bag in the last minute do to Roman plot armour, anti war factions in Carthage (which you get into) and Hanno the idiot (why do they call him Hanno the great?). I don't know if you clarify later it is currently paused at 3:21 but I just wanted to inform you and spit out some interesting Punic war history.

Hey, where do you get your maps and what software do you use for coloring them? I'm trying to do an alternate history where native americans were resistant to old world diseases.

Sounds like a great video idea. I won't be able to explain it well here so I'll outline the basics. I use a website called Natural Earth Data for my background map, it's maps are all public domain so no copyright issues. I haven't adjusted them so it's literally the same aesthetic, but they have a few options. I then use a free program called QGIS to adjust the map projection (you can choose any projection to use), then export that. I do it as a huge image and zoom in for videos where needed. Then I use Adobe Illustrator to colour the maps, Photoshop could probably work too, or some free equivalent. It is a bit complicated to explain the rest, I would recommend looking into other videos and such for better help. It can be difficult to find maps on the same map projection as your base map, I recommend channels like Ollie Bye for more consistent maps. Neatling has made a video briefly outlining his process if you have not seen it, I would recommend checking that out.

When you said that Hannibal conducted a guerrilla campaign against Rome, I can't help but disagree. What I've read from numerous writers and scholars, was that the strategy the Romans employed after Cannae was the Fabian strategy - in other words, the Romans were the ones employing guerrilla tactics, while Hannibal was employing counter-guerrilla tactics.

Excellent video on a topic (Punic Wars) not normally discussed in-depth. Given that Carthage is a maritime empire, it is clear that it would have placed priority on islands and locations near important sea lanes such as Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and the coastal areas of Spain (like the gates of Heracles). With such control, the Western Mediterranean would have become a Punic Pond. Sea trade would have substantially increased in volume and places such as Northern Europe and West Africa would have gradually become integrated into a Punic trade network reaching from the Nordic Sea to the Nile River. Contrary to others' views, I believe Carthage would have attempted to enter the Eastern Mediterranean through establishment of trading settlements (if they didn't already exist) and domination of markets like Egypt. The Carthaginian Empire would have not come to dominate most of Europe, North Africa and the Near East because it would not need to. It would have ruled the waves.

Thank you. You raise good points. If they triumph over the Romans it does make sense for them to pursue the eastern markets, as a maritime focused empire there would be many riches to pursue in the region.

great video, id argue Christianity would still grown but at a much slower rate, also if it does reach carthage it might replace the Punic religion at least for the lower classes, but do you think islam would still exist?

That would be interesting to see regarding Christianity. I feel Islam is too outside the scope of the timeline to be predictable. The political situation of the Middle-East wouldn't be the same without the Romans and such. I think the butterfly effect would eliminate it, but it's hard to say for certain.

I think the two religions would exist, but a smaller population, islam would still conquer most of otl rashidun caliphate, except for persia since they would be stronger if there was no rome, or maybe the Egyptians and seleucids would fight a series of wars against persia

But I disagree. Religions happen because of global events, and not just individual people. For Islam, it was about 60 years of war from the reign of Justin II that were fought against Kosro I. These wars involved Arabs, Jews, and Christians that were seen as heretics by the Roman church. Without a Roman Empire, it's impossible to guess what a Jesus of Nazareth would have to talk about. The New Testament is built out of Roman propaganda.
