when I saw that guardpoint into super, I had a feeling equivalent to two things: kira yoshikage staring at that picture of the Mona Lisa, and that one ratatouille scene where antione ego was sent back into his childhood home. there were always two things I missed whenever I played MHGen/GU, and they were the GP into super/ultra and the heavy feeling of the hits 4U had, and this mod is all I ever wanted. thank you for bringing this to my attention, and especially thank the mods creators for their work. (now to find a save editor so I can copy my charms from MHGenU to 3ds MHXX... no, I'm not doing the stupid coal quest for the 600th time)

I'm so nostalgic for 4U CB. Generations/GU CB was so sad, at least adept was ok and brave was fun. Hate the SAED only style in 5th gen, I guess I kinda prefer rise's version, at least sunbreak made elemental CBs good again but maybe in too complicated a way, they were still kinda ok in certain niches in 4U. All of which to say this video makes for excellent pseudonostalgia (since it was never exactly like this but yk). Have always wanted to fight 4th gen glavenus with 4U CB.

Chainsaw mode in iceborne is better than SAED in pretty much every match-up. You can't even play SAED against the late-game bosses (fatalis, AT velkhana, alatreon, tempered furious rajang). You can just choose not play SAED 💀

In Iceborne Savage Axe is king for raw matchups, not SAED. Elemental CB is really powerful and the meta choice against some monsters , like Lunastra and AT Namielle.

@@tiredmann Rise savage axe isnt as fluid (due to it only not being timer based like in world), but there are some pretty satisfying builds with the silkbinds. Absolutely love my vampire undying savage axe build :P

Thanks for the mod link. I didn't even know this mod existed. What you showcased here is already way more fun and interesting than any of MHGU's horseshit CB playstyles. A shame that the mod doesn't bring back the chunky hitstop from MH4U though; hopefully, someone will mod that extra hitstop in the future.

Just started a playthrough using the Switch version of this mod from Gamebanana on Ryujinx and good fucking lord I had no idea how badly GU neutered the CB, and this is coming from someone who loved Adept CB in GU. Before this I always thought "Well maybe it was stronger in 4U but I'm sure people are just exaggurating at how badly they nerfed it", but now? I'm literally like Frank in the "I get it....." scene in It's Always Sunny.

Funny enough, Gen was the last time I had fun with charge blade. It didn't feel like an SAED spam weapon back then, maybe it was still best that way, but I certainly never felt it was much better. Might just be seeing the actual numbers in Rise and World makes me really see how bad everything but SAED is. And I guess chainsaw, but I don't like that very much. This video makes me miss old CB a lot lol

What features in GU are you missing? Guild style is 95% the base 5th Gen CB, minus the two-stage shield charge, Striker had even less of the base kit, Aerial made S/AED only usable after jumping, and Adept was basically a nerfed guard point for Sword mode, and Axe mode is just ED2 spam after dodging. Valor is the only mode that has anything truly lost, with no ED3 or dash guard point. And even with SAED spam being a focal way to play CB, 5th Gen gave it even more tools to vary how you play a lot: sword charge and overcharge turn effectively your shield charge mode into a viable, albeit lower dps, way to fight, and ED1 out of shield charge makes non-S/AED axe play quicker.

But in 5th gen, if you're not spamming it, you're doing like 10% of the full potential damage. But like I said, it's possible it was like that before, but actually seeing the numbers makes it obvious how weak the CB is outside of SAED.

@@Purpletrident The numbers definitely play a part, but I can kind of see how the old charge blades felt different: old charge blades had a much higher mechanical cost to SAED spam since it always too your shield charge (except in Valor style in GU), so it wasn't a key part of many playstyles. But, as the video shows, some playstyles are just as spammy, and it ultimately falls on the player whether enjoyable gameplay or optimal damage. Plus, optimal SAED spam is like playing with a greatsword that only deals optimal damage when it hits every part of the monster, which can technically be viewed as a downgrade from the single-point focused SAED old CB had.
