I understand timeline setup is important, but I don’t think it needs to take up the majority of the video.

Japan would likely take advantage of the situation starting what would be essentially a second sino-Japanese war since Japan would be the only foreign power who could commit any meaningful amount of recourses to the theatre. It’s unlikely however that Japan could hold anything more than maybe Manchuria, Shandong, and perhaps Tientsin/Peking. I disagree that China would be a German ally. If China still remained independent they would have been dominated by the British. In our timeline the British got a lease over Weiheiwei which basically meant it was British territory in all but name. I'd see the British getting more of these leases in this scenario, especially around the Yangtse and Yellow rivers.

Nope. British can never dominate china. It was simply too big. That’s a fact. It took British over 100 years to conquer the whole India so china was simply impossible. Otherwise they would have done so in 1800s. But they didn’t. Because they benefit more for doing business with china and forcing them to open the whole country to make money. That’s what they wanted.
@Thanatar132 жыл бұрын
Any Chinese state allying to Britain, would have had zero mandate with the vast majority of Chinese people, though. Similarly with Japanese "Manchukuo"- actually, on an even greater scale. Britain was the worst offender of most blatant crimes against China, as its everyday people would see it- it fought wars to continue flooding the country with opium, it had extorted basically each type imperialist unequal treaty, and its share of concessions (ie ports and cities carved out of China's coast) was far larger than any other nation. In other words, Britain could have had a Chinese ally, but any British-aligned Chinese state would have had its hands full "pacifying" (read: routinely slaughtering dissenters and revolution) its vast population. Germany and the US would be more natural allies to a colonized China, but even Russia, France, and even Japan pushing a pan-Asian narrative and acting with a lighter hand (provided Japan behaves itself, which frankly no imperial powers in this time seemed remotely capable of doing) would have a better chance being stable allies with China, than Britain during this time period, IMO.

@Hernando Malinche Do you think it's funny? "Root" is China's largest treasure and the world's largest treasure. "Root" represents the Han culture. The Han culture is formed by the fusion of dozens of ethnic and religious cultures. This is why there are still different customs all over China, and the foundation and essence of Han culture lies in "Confucianism". Confucianism pursues a harmonious social development model and does not advocate active aggression, This also provides a better idea for Communist China. Communism in modern China is not a system, but a philosophy, which plays a role in awakening China's ancient wisdom. Due to the inclusive characteristics of Chinese culture, it actively absorbs the advantages of capitalism and communism and abandons its disadvantages, The combination of communism and Confucianism has created a new unknown road for the Chinese people, and capitalism plays a role in promoting, but the interests of capital cannot affect the decision-making of the country. In addition, capitalism is free, freedom means being responsible for the interests of individuals, collectives and the country, democracy is crossing the River by touching a stone, and the people support a policy, The state will completely implement it, but on the contrary, it will withdraw. In the past few decades, we have made many mistakes, but continuous reform is still the driving force for China to move forward confidently. In the future, we will still inevitably make mistakes, but it will hardly cause a lot of losses. The West knows the disadvantages of its own system, but they can't carry out reform and allow the expansion of the influence of capitalists for many years, As a result, the current politics and the interests of capitalists have been closely combined, otherwise they will collapse completely. This is the truth of everything and the real reason why the west is afraid of China. With the rise of China and leading poor countries to resist, they will soon be unable to carry out the Modern Colonial model, economic stagnation or even retrogression, and then pay attention to their own people. The rich are God, The poor are reduced to livestock. The cultural differences between the East and the West have led to completely different results. The rise and decline of the West seem to be doomed in the long history of thousands of years, as if a short light has been lit in the dark. To be honest, I am not surprised by the correctness of politics. This has existed in China's history for thousands of years. Without the attack of the west, we will never find it. The reason why the future of the west is so tragic is that they follow the natural law of historical development, because they will never get the treasure left by China.

Administration in india was four types 1. Presidential cities (Bombay, Calcutta) where british ruled directly(this includes district capitals too) 2. Presidential Rural areas where British will collect a share of revenue from Zamindar (feudal lord, similar to a Land holding Gentry in UK). These two will have police forces run by british. 3. Integral princely state where Maharajas will rule the state while britain will take care of taxation. They could have independent military regiments working under british but with british higher officers(like the rajput regiment). Police will be under native control. (Mysore, Hyderabad, Baroda) 4. Autonomous princely state where Kings will rule the state themselves, and could staff their entire army with their own officers and soldiers. In fact, the Korean Empire also tries colonized Manchuria territory in China and they almost succeeded. In late 19th century and early 20th century, the Korean Empire wants to reclaim their ancient territory in Manchuria and first they occupied Jiandao(간도) area. During that time, many Korean immigrants were settled in Manchuria especially Jiandao and they had conflicts with Qing government. And Korean Empire used this to territorial expansion and luckily Qing Empire was weak since the Boxer rebellion and the imperial army of Korea easily take over the Jiandao. But unfortunately, in 1909, the Japanese and Qing had a Gando convention secretly and Korea lost Jiandao forever.

Do you have a source for the above information that it was Korea that tried to colonize Jiandao? When reading a Wikipedia article about the region, it says that Korean immigrants settled in significant numbers in the late 19th century to escape famine and poverty after the 1894 Japanese invasion of Korea and the de facto subjugation after they forced Korea to become a protectorate and it says that incorporation efforts of the region into Korea was more or less orchestrated by Japan who wanted to take over more Chinese land by saying that the Korean majority Jiandao should be under Japanese jurisdiction and also invaded Jiandao in 1907 causing issues, which was then solved in the Jiandao Convention when Japan withdrew troops from the region. Not trying to say you're wrong or anything, but I'm just genuinely curious about this topic and if the article I read was lacking perspective or views on the subject from the point of view of Korea.

This could go other directions too. The Chinese Republic may not ally with Germany, having a desire to reclaim Beijing someday. THis could lead to it having friendly relations with Britain or Japan seeking aid against Germany. But the specifics would depend on how the European powers aligned with each other. Russia allying with Britain and France against Germany would be hard to predict, but Russia allying with Germany against Britain and France would see a Sino-Japanese alliance joining the Western Allies seeking to drive the Russo-German bloc out of the Far East. Or perhaps one or both of the two (China and Japan) may decide not to align with any European alliance and instead seek some sort of relationship with the United States as a means to check further European expansion in the Pacific. Just another possiblility. In any case, If Japan and China aligned, the increasing industrial capability of Japan combined with China's large population would be a formidible force against whoever the align against.

Hey, Mr. Z, how about some scenarios for Italy and Europe? 1. What if Italy was first in Tunisia (in 1880)? Would this provoke France to wage another European war? My guess, if they DO - Germany would use it as excuse to invade France again (Bismarck actually wanted this, see "War in sight" crisis), beat them and place another heavy indemnity (just like after Franco-Prussian war), while Italy could retain Nice and Italian part of Savoy. Remember that after Savoy was sold to France there was a rebellion against French. 2. What if Italy joined the Central Powers in late 1915? Actually there was an offer from Austria-Hungary that they would give Trentino area+Austrian littoral (excluding Trieste) to Italy for staying neutral while the Entente offer was much better... Let s say Austria-Hungary improves their offer like they would give Trentino area+Austrian littoral and Trieste, but Trieste stays under Austro-Hungarian until the end of war (since Trieste port was the main trading port of the Empire i dont see how they can give it away without compensation) also German Empire offers more possible French land acquisition to Italy like Tunisia+Savoy (exItalian) +Corsica +Provence (up to Rhone river) +French and British parts of Somali (really generous offer). It s known that Italy was dependent on imports from France and Britain...But by late 1915 there already happen Bulgarian joining the war , Serbian defeat and Russian Great retreat, so Italian joining the CP may be just enough to continue that series of success. Also Italian, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman fleet could cooperate to repel possible naval invasions to Italy. 3. (Related to 2) What if there was a rapprochement between Italy and Austria-Hungary? Like Austria-Hungary gives Italy Trentino + border lands up to Isonzo river for Italian support during annexation of Bosnia event. Also Italy gets invited to military council over July crisis in 1914 , let s say Austria-Hungary did invest in Zadar port , so they now can give Trieste to Italy as price for Italian joining the CP side in upcoming war against Serbia and the Entente.

Continued: With the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, Germany would be forced to cede their colony to Japan. The United States would gain Shandong and a few coastal cities in Guangdong as well as a foreign concession in Shanghai. Japan would gain control over all of Manchuria and Inner Mongolia. Russia falls into Civil War so Mongolia and Xinjiang/East Turkestan tried to declare independence until the Red Army would conquer them by 1923, creating the Soviet Republics of East Turkestan and Mongolia. During the interwar period, there would be numerous revolts across French and British China, just like in India. Japan invades Russian Mongolia in 1931 and annexes it in 1935. In 1937, Japan declared war on British China by taking over some coastal cities. French China would side with Free France and not Vichy France. In 1941, Japan bombed the US Military Base in Shandong, causing the US to get involved in WWII. After the war, Japan lost all its colonies so South Korea became US-Occupied, North Korea became a Soviet Republic, Manchuria became a Soviet Republic, and Inner Mongolia joined the Soviet Mongolia Republic. Britain, France, and the US kept all their colonies in China. However after the independence of India in 1947 many uprisings against colonial rule occurred. In 1958, the US, Britain, and France agreed to relinquish their colonies in China and grant them independence, all of them being independent democracies however the Communists would still win in Vietnam. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Manchuria, Mongolia, North Korea, and East Turkestan would all become their own countries. All of them would drop Communism including North Korea which would actually reunite with South Korea in 1996. Today China would be made up of 9 different countries the biggest one being of course the Chinese Republic, a fast-growing democracy that's capital would be in Shanghai. It would basically be another India.

For all we know, Japan winning in China might lead to the Japanese Military feeling real ballsy, and thus lead to Pearl Harbor happening early. While America would be the main fighter in the war, Germany might look to support the US economically while secretly rebuilding its fleet. The Germans would join the war on the side of America, and aid the fledgling superpower navally. Germany would obviously want its former Chinese holdings restored to it and then some. The remnant Republic would very certainly benefit from the development being introduced to the region by its new colonial neighbors, not to mention that it can now focus on a smaller area to develop, rather than worrying about suppressing uprisings in the fringe corners of the state. Really, you'd have a modernized China in the Republic, gradual Russian settlement of their own territory, Germanization within the German colony, and lesser influence on the parts of France and Britain, largely because Britain mainly extracted a buffer state as a concession, while France just added to their holdings in Indo-China. If a great deal of land came under Japanese control, I do believe that would give you the most dramatic cultural change to China in this timeline.

@@MonsieurDean Will China be christinized by the any of the western nations? Will Shinto be introduced by the Japanese?
@danshakuimo2 жыл бұрын
@@zionmolina3039 Shinto isn't really a proselytizing religion so that is unlikely. Christianity might be popular considering many influential characters during this time period were Christian, including Sun Yat-Sen, Chiang Kai-Shek, and warlord Feng Yuxiang. And with the increased Western influence many Chinese would probably become Christians, but depending on the actions of the Europeans there, it might make Christianity become less popular if relations sour. But then again, there are historical cases where relations soured with colonizers without people hating the religion introduced by said colonizers.

What if Germany backstabbed Italy , or what if Italy militarily supported Austria during the aunshcluss starting a war between Germany and Italy
@fkjl47172 жыл бұрын
You mean the WW2? I dont see much difference with first scenario from IRL, IRL Italy was invaded and occupied by Germans due to it is declaration of war on Germany in 1944. If Germans do it early , well then there wont be any Axis Africa and Mediterranean would be under full control of the Allies, so invasion of Sicily would happen somewhere in 1942. Also D-day would happen in both North and South of France simultaneously clearing axis forces in swift fashion... Second scenario is much more interesting. During Anschluss event German army was not ready for a big war yet, there was even conspiracy against Hitler just in case if he was crazy enough to declare war due to denying German claims over Sudetenland. If Italy did militarily support Austria , Austrian lands would become a battleground. Italian army was better suited for mountain warfare so Austrian and Italian armies would be able to drive Germans back to Austro-German border, But no further... basically it would be a draw. Next things depend on French, British and USSR opinions on event. The fact is : Military invasion of Austria would give a Bad international reputation to Hitler and Germany, but Mussolini already had it because of conquest of Ethiopia. So...Whom France and UK would choose? There is another point of diversity. If France and UK told Hitler to stop, Germany would back down and Austrian status-quo would be guaranteed. (Hitler would be removed as chancellor) If France and UK follow appeasement pattern...then everything would repeat as IRL , despite Italy now would be disgusted at both sides and isolated. Total isolation of Italy would cause deeper crisis...so Italy would stay away of any non-internal affairs. Annexation of Sudetenland would happen in the same fashion, but European society would be more Pro-war now , so France could react aggressively on following invasion of Czechia by Germany. French mobilization and Sietzkrieg would start in 1938. Italy may join the Allies now , if sanctions removed and they given a blank cheque in Albania. German army, not rearmed yet , not expanded yet , wont be able to wage this war... Also there would be Poland seeking a chance to reclaim "old-Polish" lands. So Germany would be stopped in 1939 and divided again , Poland would annex parts of Silesia and Eastern Prussia, France would take a bit of lands up to Rhine (Saar and Moselle). Hitler and other Nazi leaders would be sentenced for life...Nazism would banned. While Italian and Spanish Fascismo would be tolerated. USSR would be isolated and could not regain Western Ukraine and Western Belarus in any near moment. No Bipolar world , No cold war...

@Rishi1234567892 жыл бұрын
Thanks for making this video Monsieur Z, because I have often wondered what China would be like today if it was colonised by Europeans (like a Chinese equivalent of the Scramble For Africa, I guess). A Scramble For China would involve the British taking Yunnan as one of their colonies, the French taking Chongqing as one of their colonies, the Germans taking Guangdong as one of their colonies, etc. ALL countries today have some territory that was colonised by Europeans. For example, parts of what is now present-day Thailand were colonised by the French Empire. Parts of what is now present-day Liberia were colonised by the Portuguese Empire. A part of Japan (Nagasaki, to be precise) was colonised by the Portuguese Empire. A part of what is now Saudi Arabia was also colonised by the Portuguese Empire. Parts of what is now present-day Mongolia were colonised by the Russian Empire. Parts of what is now present-day China were colonised by both the British Empire and the Portuguese Empire. Parts of what is now Iran were colonised by the Russian Empire. Parts of what is now present-day Afghanistan were colonised by both the British Empire and the Russian Empire during the Great Game. Parts of what is now Ethiopia were colonised by the Italian Empire. So you see, every single country in the world today was colonised to some extent by Europeans. Every single country. No exceptions. No other group has achieved this. Even the Mongol Empire, which was the largest contiguous empire of all time, is still second to the British Empire in size and the British Empire was only ONE of multiple European colonial empires (although undoubtedly the most influential one, the fact we're all typing in English being a testament to that). In terms of empire-building, Europeans are collectively unparalleled in human history.
