We know these are just faces the politicians put on. Trump is a billionaire that only 0.00001% of the US could "relate to", but his policies are beneficial to the middle class. The Republican Party is Trump's party. The MAGA wing stands for Trump, not the Republican party. Without Trump at the top of the ticket, MAGA will need to adapt or be crushed in a future election. I don't think any of Trump's allies has what it takes to inherit MAGA and all of its voters. Vance and DeSantis are more likely to win a GOP primary, but I can't see them doing as well as Vivek or Tulsi in a general. RFK doesn't stand a chance. The Democrats may have gotten torn apart now, but they're much less reliant on any one person to lead them, which means a party realignment is more feasible for them. That's a big strength that could help them later, especially if Trump's second administration is stymied by Republican infighting.

It certainly depends on where you are in the state. I can’t speak for the Western half but around Lancaster I’ve seen plenty of people have a favorable view of Shapiro and even up past Allentown in Sullivan County a lot of folks I talked to were indifferent or liked Shapiro because he was less corrupt than Wolf. He certainly has some skeletons in his closet and he is definitely more active in the Southeast (typical of a Democrat governor in PA) but many saw his leadership during the i-95 collapse and how he and Fetterman stray from their party line every so often as admirable, even if they aren’t particularly liberal or progressive. @@DeanMonsieur on a national scale, "moderates" as we think of them are actually pretty rare, what youre thinking of are people who dont really care about politics and will vote based on how their life has changed in the last 4 years, for example say the election is vance v shapiro, if trump is succesful in securing the border, ending wars and improving the economy, these people will vote for vance, if not, theyll vote for shapiro and this dynamic is pretty consistent across us elections regardless of individual candidates, take mccain for example, everybody liked mccain in 2008 but they liked obama more and didnt trust the republicans, the result being that mccain lost by almost 10 million votes, despite being well liked

Vivek Ramaswamy is the only person I have seen that has an aura close to Trump’s; he has the potential bring out hundreds and thousands of people to events. I am afraid that JD Vance doesn’t have his own policies/vision and is just going along with the Trump agenda. If Vivek emphasizes that he is open to all religions and won’t prioritize his own (Hinduism) as president, I don’t think he will struggle with evangelicals as much. He had a big turnout at Liberty University for perspective.

RFK will never be President because he has 3 distinct political ideologies that don’t align well together. He is very focused on the MAHA agenda, which is a big deal for rural conservatives, he’s very passionate about environmentalism and believes that the government must act in this way. The problem is that the exact rural population that supports his MAHA agenda hates when the government over regulates them on their land. The urban population are all on board with his environmentalism, but they can’t believe that the government would “open fire in Dallas”. RFK wants to tear down the institutions that he believes killed his father and uncle, and the urban populations believe in government! His ideology is logically inconsistent and that leaves him politically homeless. Vance will run as the incumbent presidential candidate in 2028.

From where I sit, it looks like this: - Vivek's mandate is to complete DOGE work by July 4, 2026. That's perfect timing for him to run for governor of Ohio after DeWine is term limited out. Ohio crowds have been demanding he do it, so I don't think he has much choice. That's good, because if he has presidential aspirations, he needs that executive experience. Legislators don't get elected president. Obama and JFK were outliers, not the norm. John Kerry and George McGovern are the norm. - Vance is the heir. I don't think anyone is better than he is, and Trump picked him for a reason. He'll run in 2028 and, assuming this incredibly heterodox project of Trump's is successful, win. I've been saying he'd pick Tulsi as his running mate for months, but now it's become conventional wisdom, so I'm less bullish on that. If Rubio actually serves as SecState for longer than Rex Tillerson, then he'd probably be the logical running mate. If Rubio resigns, Tulsi will get his job and she's back in my top spot as Vance's running mate. - Dems *should* run John Fetterman and Eric Adams in 2028. They'll end up running someone awful. It'll be Michael Dukakis all over again, except Vance is infinitely more engaging and charismatic than George Bush. - RFK doesn't have a political future. He'll advise any president who'll listen, but he's not running for office. - DeSantis will be frozen out. He's a great governor. But he's not MAGA, and he's not MAGA because he's an ideologue. MAGA is pragmatic, not at all ideological. Unless this paradigm shift is somehow reversed, he doesn't fit in. He's also a giant question mark on foreign policy. I certainly don't trust him not to resurrect the warfare state, given his priors. - Dark Horse prediction: Trump converts to Catholicism and a lot of Evangelicals look into it. The biblical and historical case for Catholicism is very, very strong, and there are libraries full of compelling conversion stories by Catholic former Evangelicals. Evangelical preachers gaslight their congregants just as much as the media gaslights the population.
