Robby had trouble with Shawn and his friends because he still holding onto the Miyagi-Do philosophy of "karate is for self-defense ONLY!!", meaning he wouldn't do anything unless they hit him first, which they interpreted as weakness on Robby's part, leading them to bully him more. After Kreese suggested he "strike first", Robby took out his two friends quickly, making it a fairer fight against Shawn. Hawk would have gone on the offensive as soon as Shawn tried something, and they'd make peace sooner.

Hawk would connect well with Shawn because he’s friends with his little brother Kenny, and considering that Kenny and Hawk have problems with Miyagi Do students, Robby would be considered a target. Robby would be Johnny’s bastard son. Jules half brother. As Johnny is married to Ali. And Shannon was someone who had a one night stand with Johnny and Robby would be conceived from passion. And Shannon did had a husband and died when Robby was young. But he wasn’t his real daddy. Shannon tells Robby that Johnny Lawrence was his real dad. Robby tried many times to tell Johnny that he’s his son and Johnny avoids Robby. Robby does learn more about his dad. Even meet his grandfather Syd and ask him about Johnny. Syd does tells Robby that he’s a bastard but still tell him about Johnny. Robby thought about joining Eagle Fang to meet his dad. But Shannon was paid by Syd to avoid Johnny Lawrence. Shannon tells Robby to avoid Johnny. He does join a scam gang with Trey and Cruz. However, Miguel moves in the valley few months before cobra Kai series begin. Cross would be the new kid. And Dutch would be the guy on downhill spiral of life itself. Robby would be associated with Miguel. But Robby wouldn’t let Miguel join his gang. Miguel once saw Robby commit gta and Miguel’s decided to say nothing and gave him money. Miguel would be confident. But still a nerd and a loser, however, Cross does attend the same school as him and Miguel introduces Eli, Demetri, Rue, and Robby to Cross. As well as Aisha, Tory, and Sam. Who are more cool but not the more popular students of the student. Just middle rank of cool. Miguel does have a crush on Sam. Aisha crushes on Jules, and Tory does have a crush on Cross. But Cross is crushing on Yuki, the daughter of Daniel LaRusso and Kumiko LaRusso. Robby does his scams with Trey, Cruz and Tanner. One robbery on LaRusso Autos went wrong and Robby had some heart and Tanner decided to side with Robby and not want to rob as it’s a bad time and Trey and Cruz are hating on both of them. And decide to beat them up. However Tanner was knifed to death and Robby felt bad to left his friend.

That was also Hawk's biggest weakness: he was so aggressive he was too eager to fight and had no defense, which is why he had so much trouble against Miyagi-Do in S2. Joining Miyagi-Do in S4 helped fix that.
