Jiren in #DragonBallSuper didn't have the best origin story...most said it was similar to the flashbacks of Bruce Wayne and Batman - not exactly original. What if we changed that? What if Jiren Had A Good Backstory and Origin Story to make us feel more reletable to him - we take everything that happened prior to the Tournament of Power and make it more interesting. Jiren’s backstory: Inigo Montoya with a power-complex. Jiren with a good backstory: Jiren intends to obtain absolute strength to transcend EVERYTHING and change the very foundations/laws of the universe to make it impossible for the thing that happened to him to happen to anyone else. What happened to him? The Demon that slayed everyone? It was a fallen hero Jiren aspired to pre his evil ways. In defiance, and perhaps to honor his formal idol, he took his place among the pride troopers maybe.

I rather like my original idea behind Jiren's motivation in the ol' TOP. When he said he wanted to find something "beyond strength" with the super dragon balls, I interpreted that to mean that he was disgusted in the way "might makes right" in the dragon ball universe and he was going to wish to change the very nature of reality so that justice always wins. I thought of him as someone who hated his own power and that he was forced to prove that "might" is all that matters in every single fight and hoped every single time for something to prove him wrong, but it never came. The idea he'd had hope and friendship torn from him in a second utter defeat ALMOST led me to think that's where they might go, but then he just.... embraced that "power is all that matters" instead. How boring... Here's hoping this does something more with him.

What I thought would make him really interesting is if he wasn't actually grey. Like he was in super Saiyan constantly which would explain why he needs to constantly meditate to maintain the "grey form" His need for constant power was pretty cool but the story just kind of implied he saitama'd his way into that power. What if he was actually afraid of being weak. His actions being fueled primarily by fear would give him some much needed depth

As far as I'm concerned this is the true backstory that only Jiren and Belmod know about. They hid it from the rest of the Pride Troopers with the cover story that we got, that's why Belmod cut in. Being the "Joker" of the group he's a master of fabricating false pasts. The unspecified demon never existed, it was Jiren all along.

Major issue with this is that Jiren is over 1000 years old and that timeframe is how he got so strong. You compressed his life into too short of a span unless you are retconning his age.

@@MasakoX cool this came out on my brothers birthday!!!(please do a video of cross epoch,android 21 & the time breakers/towa masakox :3) i do find it funny that jiren is basically a grey using broly movies as exercise training videos but i do think his problem was that he was imo forced into being an antagonist to goku when goku himself wasn't exactly a saintly role model in that arc with his decisions(i actually remember at times when watching it wishing he would lose to let someone get more spotlight as outside getting ultra instinct and a few moments with his friends & caulifa/kale was just there.) and i like the manga for showing him having a bit more in his universe outside meditating. i personally think the figure who appeared in his backstory should be either a demon(demigra or mechikabura in his prime using time manipulation) or maybe moro(maybe using his power to go on a universe spree before he was imprisoned or like a follower of him.) and i do think if he were to come back he shouldn't be a rival to goku(hit's a better rival to goku's abilities as it's kinda similar to a reverse jotaro & dio.) and just be given more time to develop.

This is a great way to rewrite Jiren. We never actually learn how he joined the pride troopers. Also, love that you kept the shadow demon thing in this What-If. I also liked the idea it was Jiren’s “Absolute Power” that destroyed his village, family and friends. Although the age is a off, we never really look at the ages of these characters. (Well you might but that’s just for the sake of my comment) Overall, great surprise What-If!

I’m fairly sure the figure is Belmod. Belmod communicated similarly at the start of the TOP, and it would make sense for him to do this. He’s the Joker of the multiversal deck. His eyes may not be red, but his skin is white as can be.

You mean because Jiren lost everything and his Master rescue him then he began training only for him to practically lose his new father figure and fellow Ally's to the same monster that Rob him of his childhood? And the remaining students waiver not to continue the fight basically submitting to this evil for an easy life? Leaving Jiren alone again? Causing him to adopt the old ideology of Might makes Right? Trauma at such a young age changes people he didn't even get to really know himself before he lost it all. Liked the way the English dub explained it. His story invovled staring down terrifying Power forcing him to hit this level against something so terrifying him being part of the Pride Troopers could also be his way of forging this path to. He could be consider a cautionary tale of the dangers of casting off all bonds for Power and how Revenge can be consuming That's the way I view it. Even if they gave us a few episodes to explain his back story people would have complained how it held up the tournament

With time, this could be quite the epic drama. It does seem more likely Jiren's confidence would wane over these events rather than what happened, but that's a chance. I prefer your last video on the subject, where you built on what we were already given. It's already blundered, yes, but it takes more effort to do good with. I preferably would like to see a take to El Hermano, but chances are Jiren's on the proverbial shelf.

Tbh I have absolutely no issue with Jiren's backstory. (Then again, I do like Batman.) He's the opposite of Goku! Goku gets strength from defending his friends, whereas Jiren thinks strength is something only one person can build from themself. It's simple but it works. This is why Toppo encouraging Jiren is a cool thing. He figured out Universe 7 supports each other, and that lets them go further. Strength in numbers. Friends are an invaluable motivation. The Batman comparison works really well actually. Bruce starts his career thinking he has to do everything himself, but once he gets Alfred, Robin, and the rest of the Batfamily, he realizes allies isn't a weakness--it's only to your benefit.

Very good, I have my own version too and I want to share it When zamasu too goku's body he decided to test his power, so he traveled to universe 11 and found a random planet to terrorise. Jiren was peacefully living his life as a young boy when the attack happened, one of jiren's parents ran away with him, but with nowhere to go their was only one option, on jiren's home planet there was also a lookout similar to earth's and like earth's had a room of spirit and time, the time difference between inside and outside was not as great, only a few months) Jiren was put there and told to wait there until somebody came back, but as soon as the door closed behind him it was destroyed, jiren was alone. After wandering the void for what was days to him he found a civilisation of people who actually lived there. Of course living there was not an easy feat due to the extreme temperatures and greater gravity. Jiren's power skyrocketed, not only due to this but his desire to find the mysterious monster and defeat it. Fast forward until the tournament, Toppo was instructed to look everywhere for powerful allies, and you know where he ended up, finding the room and eventually the people within. He is amazed by the now adult jiren and estimates him to be far above anything he has seen before. While trying to persuade jiren to join he mentions how goku was the one to start the tournament, jiren vaguely recognises him and agrees, for his universe and if he is right he can avenge his old village dawning the pride trooper uniform as its newest and most powerful member All that would change in the story would be jiren choosing to fight goku himself and much earlier and his outburst and power-up come earlier. At the end he realises that goku is innocent but is now exited to see him again for a rematch

I think the most overlooked aspect of Jiren is his inability to trust and get close to others after the tragedy he experienced. This aspect wasn't that well executed in what they showed, but this backstory works much much better!
