What if King Kong was real? What would it look like? Can an ape really reach such a size? If so, what kind of adaptations would the ape body plan have to have in order to preserve the laws of physics? That’s what I want to know and that’s what we’re going to find out!

Weight does not scale in a linear manner with height tho. if a hypothetical ape is twice as tall, it wouldnt be twice as heavy. so a 25 foot Kong would not be 2500 lbs. unless you would just stretch him in one axis and leave the other 2 unchanged.

"King Kong's height varied scene from scene because of technical limitations at the time," and "According to Screenrant, Kong is supposedly 18 feet tall in the Skull Island portions of the movie then he grows to be 24 feet tall while rampaging New York City." If you didn't trust Screenrant, why not consult with one of the members at Wikizilla or Jack Buchanan at BigJackFilms to confirm this information? The former works extremely hard to make their Kaiju profiles to be as accurate as they could get while the latter is a massive King Kong fan who covered over more Kong material than most other people.

Square-cube law. If you're increasing a gorilla's size by a factor of 5 to match King Kong's height, his volume (and presumably his mass) would increase by a factor of 125. If the gorilla weighed 500 pounds, King Kong would weigh somewhere around 62,500 pounds (~28,000 kg), an order of magnitude greater than the 2,540 lbs figure you give at 10:05.

You can't just use height and weight... you need to use total mass. You'd be better off doing a measurement off volume. A bit over a ton for a 20 ft gorilla is utterly ridiculous. You'd need to more than quadruple that. Remember, when you multiply the height by 4, you also are increasing all other dimensions by that same amount... you end up with an animal that is 4 times longer and broader as well as taller. If you want to see what an animal with a similar build to gorillas would be at 20 ft tall? Look at Megatherium. Nearly 7 meters tall when standing on back legs, around 6-10 tons, bulky body, facilitative bipedal, with long arms and grasping hands.

As far as I’m concerned the best size and body type that would best suit a realistic King Kong would be either or a cross between a Chalicotherium and a Giant ground sloth. If it had the body type of a Chalicotherium, it would be 2.7 meters (or 9 ft) tall and 3 meters (or 9.10 ft) long. Likewise, if it had the body type of a ground sloth, for example an Eremotherium, it would likely have an overall height of 2 metres (6.6 ft) and a length of 4 meters (13 ft) (Excluding the sloth’s tail), while on all fours, and could attain a height of about 4 metres (13 ft) when it reared up on its hind legs. Either way, Kong probably wouldn’t be able to fight a T-Rex, but he would certainly be bigger than Gigantopithecus and able to fight theropod dinosaurs smaller than T-Rex, like Carnotaurus, Allosaurus, etc.

If they keep roughly the same shape, an animal that is five times the height (and width and depth) of another will not weigh five times as much but 125 times as much. Jackson's kong is not only 5 times as tall as a silverback, it is also 5 times as thick and deep, so its weight should be not 500x5 pounds +/- one ton, but 500x5x5x5x5 pounds +/- 30 tons, in the neighbourhood of a paraceratherium, or perhaps an average sauropod.

I feel like there has to be some other unknowns when it comes to giant creatures working around their massive size. The estimates for Argentinasaurus are around 200,000lbs at the high end, which seems like it wouldn't even be able to move without some sort of adaptation that allowed it to counter the square cube law and fend off predators that would have picked off a helplessly slow animal. Also, it would need such intense amounts of food that not being able to be mobile would be equally dangerous.

I think our inability to imagine is the issue here. Cuz they thrived, and there were many sauropods of the same size. I don't think they would really need to circumvent the square cube law. Plus most individuals never lived long enough to reach max size. Once an animal is big enough, no predators could attack it too.

You also forget that most Kongs share their universe with other, more biologically impossible animals, so kaiju defying conventional logic and limitations is par for the course.

Peter Jackson's King Kong 2005 remake will always be my favorite since it's also the version i grew up watching the most a child. One of my favorite scenes from the film was the sauropod stampede & the human crew falling into a deep chasm filled with giant creepy crawlies

I believe that Kong and Godzilla could just have denser skin, muscle and bone structure with a respiratory system built to handle the rigors of such creatures, also being apparitions and that they are sometimes unexplainable by science. It wouldn't be correct to compare them to known creatures. Nice vid by the way, I enjoyed it.

as i see it, there are two reasonable options: 1: kong is more or less of the same size and weight of a t. rex or allosaurus, as seen in the 1933 film. 2: kong is the same size and weight of a gigantopithecus, but is a giant gorilla rather than an orang-utang. in both cases, the plot of king kong would have been altered to fit the science. there would probably be more kong apes on skull island, and he wouldn't be able to climb the empire state building while holding anne darrow at the same time.

Well, from the thumbnail I was waiting something completely different, and I really like that scientifically-speculatively accurate giant ape-like animal. However, I still love Kong just the way he is ❤ Monsterverse Kong is my fav Kong.

Kongs bones are made of iron inpregnated diamond and has a tail that acts as a third leg. He is constantly inhaling and exhaling simultaneously with seperate trachea and has three hearts.

Please leave diamonds out of it. Diamonds are hard in the sense of resistance to abrasion only. They are not hard in the sense of toughness or resistance to crushing. They shatter quite easily. People have this misinformation from comic books or poor SF writers like Larry Niven.

There are animals that incorporate metals like iron in their appendages. I'm thinking of the scaly foot snail and another invertebrate that uses metal in their teeth-like bits[I forgot the animal name]. What if King Kong could use significant amounts of iron in their bones? Iron girders for leg bones? Could other metals like titanium be used? [By metals I mean what most people think of metal not in the technical chemistry sense like calcium or individual atoms/molecules.]

When I saw the thumbnail I was confused why an indricothere was there instead of an ape. Seeing the video I now get the context. Realistic Kong is not what I thought he would be. Especially, the face as it looked so horse like compared to ape features. Interesting take nonetheless.
