For the studs on the cnc, i believe there's a way you can make the cnc cut out a ring outside your final cut and leave a small connector then you do the actual cut and cut through the connector last - it's been a while since I used a cnc but i remember doing something similar a few times
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks22 күн бұрын
Yeah absolutely, those are called tabs, but unfortunately the issue Iw as having wasn't so much that the studs were moving, it was that the bit wasn't long enough.

Great Video! The secret to CNC woodworking is dont force a project onto it, design a project for it. Like your door pulls, I feel your pain there hahahaha. But the solution would of been using thinner wood, and having it be a 2 part design. Esp if you did something like indexing holes than alignment would of been easy. And if the wood doesnt watch then use a different kind and call it a feature haha
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks28 күн бұрын
Thanks man! Yeah, CNC work can be tricky but I'm starting to embrace the process. There are a lot of nuances to feed rates and speeds so once I have that more dialed in I think I'll enjoy it more.... and of course more "features." haha, thanks for watching!

Dovetail. Beautiful work, I bet your son is thrilled! Re: "is that a word?" (around 16:34), as someone who has studied linguistics, I'm a hard believer in a descriptive rather than a prescriptive approach to language. What that means in this case is, if you're using a word and it's clear from context what that word means, you're 100% in the clear. In this case, "edge-banded" is absolutely fine, whether it's in the dictionary or not. Language is something we all make up as we go along. It changes over time, depending on the needs of the people who use it. There are some times when prescriptive linguistics are useful. Schools teach a uniform variant of language, in order to enable people to communicate with people outside of their local area. And if you're playing a word game (like, for example, Scrabble), it matters whether a word is in the dictionary or not, because it's a good tie-break rule for contested words. But beyond that, any word that communicates meaning to someone else is a word.
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks19 күн бұрын
Thank you! He loves it. And I appreciate the well thought out and thorough answer as to whether that was work or not. I say things all the time that probably don’t live in a dictionary. Haha good to know I’m not always wrong.

But maybe I'm messing it all up so please don't mind. Greetings!

Rabbets, because I'm forced to spend money on silly non-woodworking stuff like food, water, electricity, home repair and maintenance, and car payments. Sheesh. I think my personal reaction to this is that Lego rocks, and this is a great project that MIGHT get a young man to actually use his dresser. I'm not a fan of the strict adherence to the scaling to the Lego - it makes the nubs (??) too chunky and sticky-out... for me. I also constantly wonder why the color green - in either paint, stain, or dye approaches - always seems to not quite work (ref. your answer regarding the blotchiness). Last, doing the edge banding before cutting components is The Way.
@TimberBiscuitWoodworksАй бұрын
Haha, dovetails are quite time consuming too! The scale side of things definitely made this one more challenging and I can totally understand how the studs can look heavy. I had the same concern, but I think the end result looks balanced. Thanks for watching!
