Today, we get into a 2024, but with a still-existed Roman Empire. What would that look like? How would our technology, culture, and everyday life be different today? #whatif #romanempire #history
And here's a little spoiler: we already live by many Roman blueprints, but things would have been far more advanced. How exactly? Watch the video and find out.

I'm sorry...I don't know if you're looking for yes-men, but.... 1: You're forgetting that a lot of the technological advancement that took place in Europe took place in competition between the various powers. Europe's technological advantage today, which the third world is only starting to catch up to, and which is only possible because we got there first, is because of the centuries of war and animosity between European nations. I'm not saying 21st century Rome would still be like 1st century Rome of course. But definitely not like our 21st century Europe. 2: You're all over the place with this. First, Rome is so powerful and technologically advanced that it can cross the Atlantic and establish thriving provinces on the American continent 7 centuries before it actually happened, and a few minutes later it's too weak to hold on to conquered territory. 3: You then go on to say that the Romans could not have invented computers, because they didn't know how to harness electricity and couldn't have developed technology because they didn't understand the underlying processes.. Well NEITHER DID ANYONE ELSE IN THE 1ST CENTURY. Your whole premise is that the Roman Empire survives to the modern day. In that case, they absolutely WOULD have advanced from where they got to in the real timeline. Just not as far as we are today. Early 21st century Rome might concievably be something like the early 19th century British Empire

this video is so simplistic. if the roman empire never fell, the default position should be that it stagnated at the level of the 16th century and there would've been no great divergence (unless of course, China never reunified and the whole world would've been colonized by various industrialized sinitic kingdoms/republics, korea and japan). This is because we have a prime example of what happens when an ancient empire never fell. No argument that Rome would've been able to industrialize would be remotely convincing without discussing why it would've diverged from how dynastic China developed and stagnated.

Thinking only romans had all the technology in the world is a very Eurocentric view. This type of arrogance lead to their demise. This type of arrogance lead to the end of Chinese empire as well. Same arrogance ended British Empire and now it's starting the decline of the American empire.

Rome was not more technological advanced then contemporary cultures. But at par with China.

Indeed, its really weird to raise Rome on a pedestal as the preeminent empire there ever was.

Remnants of the Romans can be seen everywhere today from military structure to building construction and medical organization. They never really left. The Romans utilized the best ideas of conquered territories/people and incorporated those ideas into their own empire. Nation's today do the same at a faster pace with the free exchange of ideas (enhanced by the Internet). I don't see failed empires but rather empires that have outgrown their capacity to expand and become part of a global expansion. The world would have been a much better place today if we hadn't regressed into the (Dark ages) for 1500 years. The enemy of progress is checked extremism like religious or political beliefs that send us back into medieval times.

Slave labor did prevent Romans in technological advance. Abolishing slavery in late 18th. Century made industrial revolution.

Rome had no chance for many reasons, and perhaps your point would be one of them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
