One alt history idea I haven’t seen anywhere is what if as Western Rome was falling the emperor never recalled the legions and the majority of the roman bureaucracy from Britain and thus they were able to repel the Anglo-Saxon invasions and maintain an independent Roman subculture in Britain.

How about "What if the US became communist? This would probably have happened during the great depression as Americas workforce was desperate for work and basic necessities. It would only require 2 basic alterations. 1. A tried and failed attempt by a group of wealthy elites to overthrow FDR in the wake of his New Deal and tax hikes. This would cement the idea of the rich as bourgeoisie seeking to undermine American ideals. 2. The American Communist parties of the time would see that they have to divorce Communist itself from the image of Stalinist Russia. So they coordinated and "Americanized" Communism by putting a Communist slant on the Bill of Rights and adopting the Contribution Doctrine. The idea that one could own property, hold religious service, and many other functions not allowable under the staunch Soviet or Marxist model provided that you gave fair and equal contribution to the society that allowed this to happen.

@Donny J.S Venatus Yes, indeed! Did you watch the video at all? The video discusses what the Romans would do if they did not invade Britain, and claims they would have consolidated their German occupation more strongly with the forces that did not go to Britain. At 12:47 they go on to say that this would mean the Saxons would not have invaded Britain either. Hence there would be no Germanic influence in Britain, and my statement that there would be no British language.

Fun fact: modern construction in England and Wales (Not Scotland because the Romans didn't conquer them hence hadrians wall) often uncovers roman structures and burial grounds. In London a few years back they were digging the foundations of a new building and they found a colosseum!

Modern construction has also unveiled Celtic British archaeology beneath the Roman stuff, including planned towns, called oppida, that had been established by the south-eastern tribes before the Roman invasion, such as in Silchester, Colchester and London. These places were all founded by the Britons and the Romans simply built their own cities on top, even though they are widely credited with founding these settlements.

Rome would never form, Greece would remain the center of Western civilization. Alexander would clash with Carthage and conquer it. Then his empire would still be divided among officers, while Persia would try to slowly retake forces to strike at Greece at any moment. That means the Post-alexanders empire states would allie against persia when they attacked. Jesus would be born in the Persian empire, and Christianity would become prominent in Persia. Persia would remain a strong empire and without being busy great force in the west (Byzantium) it would not be weakened when the Arabs would attack. Its really up in the air though and it's almost unpredictable

@@James-sk4db I don't think so honestly, at least not by the time of Hideyoshi's death as he was the main driving force behind it and the rest of the nation was exhausted while the Ming were already aware of the threat and would fortify their borders after the intervention failed. If Ieyasu still manages to come into power afterwards then I could see him pulling back and being content with holding Korea after he fights another exhausting civil war. My main hope of this timeline is that it prevents the Japanese from committing to isolationism later, as the looming threat of the Qing starts to emerge, causing them to keep their modern gunpowder army to repel them and allows Japan to maintain contact with the outside world and industrialize much earlier.

I don't think that would have made any difference to Rome, they would still have left when they did,as they didn't pull out because they couldn't defend against the unconquered part of the British Isles. It would have made very little difference to England and Wales, except no Hadrians Wall. But presumably the Romanised Scots, who lived in Ireland would not have invaded Scotland, so no Gaelic element there. The Picts vanished in our world between the Scots and the Angles who invaded South Eastern Scotland, lowland Scots are genetically closer to northern English people than they are to the highland Scots. In this alternative world, I suspect the Angles would have advanced further, and we would find a small Pictish nation, or group of nations holding the north and west, rather as the Cornish and Welsh hung on. Like Wales and Cornwall it's likely it would be Conquored by England in the middle ages. It's very hard to be sure what would have happened to a Romanised Ireland, perhaps it might have tempted Germanic raiders, or it might have continued as a united post Roman cultural outpost, at least until the Vikings appeared on the scene.

In my humble opinion, there are three technologies that Rome easily could have invented that would drastically changed the course of human history. Those three are gunpowder, the heavy plow, and the printing press. Gunpowder was invented in China on accident and completely changed the face of warfare. The heavy plow was invented in the middle ages and completely changed the availability of food and what land was valuable for food production. The printing press drastically changed the preservation and distribution of information. Rome had all the necessary tools to invent all three of them but simply didn't. I've often thought about how the world would be radically different if Rome had invented one or more of them.

I could see it both ways, in one sense a land invasion is a lot easier than a naval invasion as an enemy could just line up on the shore to contest the landing, see Caesars first invasion of Britannia, but in another sense the areas of doggerland would most likely be populated perhaps even heavily so and thus the romans would have yet more tribes to contend with

Great video guys. Not that anyones interested but here goes: Im currently writing a book of a series of events quite similar to this video. However, myn is about how the Brittonic tribes find a common cause, and succeed where their cousins in Gaul failed. They manage to fight off the legions with overwhelming numbers, under a visionary leader who knew how to utilise the tribes strengths (favouring Gorilla warfare) who will eventually be annointed high king(Rix) of Britannia as a whole. So with britannia as a unified celtic kingdom, what impacts would that have on the rest of the world? First being that the countries we know today e.g. England, Wales and Scotland would never come into being. Thoughts?

You underestimate how developed we Celts were before the Romans invaded. The notion that we were barely at iron age levels of development is not true, we had mastered farming and arranged complex trade networks spanning the whole of Britain and even to the continent. Heck even before our arrival some 2,000-1,500 years prior, the native Britons still had their own trade systems that were vast enough that even the native Scots were known to travel the Stonehenge in the South of England. Rome brought metropolises to Britain and with them, coinage, coliseums, aqueducts, bathhouses. but nothing we couldn't have done without or have adopted from foreign nations. I often imagine a timeline where the Romans just left us alone.

Then again, if you even recognise the fact that reads as written by a 4 year old, i shouldn't need to explain why it's a bit hard to write properly, on account of translating isn't really standardised, now do i? Cheers lads. G'valg roth.)

What if the United States was founded on the rejection of all things British following the war of Independence. Rejection of the English language, rejection of protestantism/christianity, rejection of British mercantilism, and had the Norse exploration/coloniztion of Greenland, Markland, Helluland, and Vinland as their foundational mythos.

Thibaud Duhamel no, at the time the british were MUCH more powerful and would dominate the union with the capital being london, the official langauge would be english, this is proven by the reason the french refused they saw it as either political domination by Britain or military domination from germany, they chose wrong.

@@sausagejockyGaming 70 years is not enough so France will speak french and UK english. As it's fifty fifity in terms of population, the union will have many difficulty to communicate and converge. Best option a belgian scenrio , where both countries have her gouvernement and some time managed to also have a federal one.

A unified Celtic Empire that included the modern countries of Great Britain, Ireland, France, Belgium, and Northern Spain would have been the dominant European power, due to trade they would have had all of Romes technology at least up to the level of the Frankish Empire. The Celts were sailors and explorers by nature as most Island people are. They almost certainly would have settled North America creating a Pan Atlantic Empire and eventually a trading Empire across the globe like Britain. Since the Celts are far more laid back and less naturally authoritarian than the German English the colonies would have never rebelled being more like Canada. You would have had the dominant power in Europe and later the whole world be the Celtic Empire for centuries from the fall of Rome until the Celtic colonies in the New World rose to power in the 20th century. It would be a far better world today.

When the Romans landed on the Isle of Wight off of the south coast of England they were defeated by the local tribe as the tribe held a certain key bridge on the island. Hundreds of years later whilst planning the defence of the UK from Nazi Germany, the govt decided that this bridge was still the only way to take the island so built pillboxes on the bridge

Bruh, you forgot one of the most important guy at the 3rd century, Aurelian. Which destroyed both gaellic and palmyrene empire also repelling many germanic invasion, stabilizing the empire. Since most of the legion were campaigning at the east, the gaellic empire would still collapse and not creating some domino effect.
