That's the beauty of the film, you can never be 100% certain whether he was or wasn't delusional. So, you CHOOSE to believe either of the versions.

To me he wasn't delusional at all I mean if u look This movie takes place in the same time of project paperclip when the US was moving all the niz partys meanly scientists to do are work there had to be people like Teddy. Then who knew the truth and we're going to speak out. This was the US selling you the story of what they actually did I talk to a homeless vet before who said when u know to much n they can't control you will make you believe you're going crazy there's even documentary minute on how they've been faking UFO sightings n had a cia agent talk to the man who seen and record it them to believe it was all government technology n went crazy of himself

In all honesty this is what I believed watching the movie I like this timeline far more than the 'obvious' one about him being the patient. It would've been so much better if the director didn't drop so many hints to negate this theory but instead he should've let the viewers decide

And how about the fact that he never even questioned where his cigarettes came from until Cave-lady Rachel mentioned it? Or how about when Cave-lady Rachel tells him that he has no friends, and then he immediately goes back to looking for his good-buddy Chuck. Apparently, he's not getting through to himself very well.

I love this theory, and there's plenty of evidence to support it, although a good amount of the evidence is simply wrong. -Dr. Colleen isn't claiming that particular storm was a delusion, he's claiming that there's always a storm involved in the delusion. Since this is supposed to be a final attempt with elaborate role play, it's perfectly reasonable to assume Dr. Colleen planned this roleplay around an expected storm. -the meeting where they're discussing the flooding was staged regardless, the warden told the marshal "Dr. Colleen would like to see [him] immediately" in the scene that led up to that discussion. -Daniels being told to run is a strong piece of evidence, although from this scene it's more significant that all the "insane" patients would need to be coached as to not let slip the marshals true identity, for if the marshal was a famous patient for 2 years it's likely other patients knew his true identity. Colleen would've needed to have faith that these criminally insane people would keep to the story. -The doctor in the cave is also strong, although if the marshal truly was a patient for 2 years and is "highly intelligent" as his file states, it's reasonable to assume he knew this information before his relapse and the "doctor" was simply his subconscious speaking knowledge he'd forgotten. Stronger evidence can be found with the fire and the scene leading up to this encounter. Rats suddenly appear and teddy is found kicking through them which is particularly odd, this scene is likely symbolic of the marshal being a "rat in the maze," a term that was also used by George Noise. Additionally teddy crouched by the fire and was warmed by it, meaning it couldn't of been a hallucination. -you contradicted yourself with the anagrams. Previous evidence stated that the real Rachael solando existed and spoke to him in the cave, which would mean her name is a real one and one that couldn't of been conveniently made up by Dr. Colleen.

The only thing in the movie that ruins the conspiracy is where Teddy doesn't know who hes reporting to when he says hes going to file his report

what about the fact that 'Teddy Daniels' dreams of his 'daughter' early in the film before he's delusional? He's presented with photos of the exact girl from his dreams by Dr. Colleen. If Daniels wasn't crazy how could Colleen of had a photo of the exact girl from his dreams? Especially since Daniels being sane would mean this girl never existed.

21/3/24 inception was my favourite movie for a long time but I personally felt the whole movie was a fantasy now. 😔 There was no one can travel into others brains 🧠 to reach the same level of story. Because every individual has their own life story, Leo has his wife turned up all the time, what about others? They will also have lovers turned up in their dreams. Inception is possible the same as shutter island, all just his creative characters ~ now I think inception just Leo his own dream, great movie but I think that’s a dream of Leo himself including the ending

They managed to create a fine line between the 2 theories, anyway, seems we change belief of whats the real story everytime we watch it, I can imagine that is exactly the dream and vision the creators had with this project. Very cool indeed!

Yeah, "Andrew Laeddis" being an anagram of "Edward Daniels" could just be a coincidence, but I have my own theory... The first time we hear the name "Laeddis" in the movie is from Delores about a half-hour in during one of Teddy's dream-sequences. Teddy is sleeping on the top-bunk while Chuck is on the bottom-bunk. So Chuck has all night to whisper that name into Teddy's head and infiltrate it into his dreams, and the next thing you know--Teddy has a new person to look for on the island. Now whether there really was a firestarter from Teddy's old apartment that he is looking for, who knows? But if there was, I doubt his real name was Andrew Laeddis. Just like they fed him the name "Rachel Solando" as soon as he made it to the island, they could just as easily fed him that name too. And later when Teddy dreams about meeting Andrew Laeddis (with the big cut on his face), who does Andrew turn into? Why, Chuck of course, obviously doing more mind-control work on Teddy during his sleep (who is also the one who wakes him up). And if you google the last-names "Daniels" and "Laeddis", you will find tons of "Daniels" and ZERO "Laeddis". Gee, I wonder which one was made up? And I don't care how crazy you are--You can't go around looking for yourself without it ringing all sorts of alarms in your head... "Hey, that name sure sounds familiar." And if he had really been repeating these loops over and over looking for Laeddis, wouldn't the doctors simply show him his own badge with his name on it? That oughtta take care of the problem right there--No silly role-play required.
@eddiedantes7732
@eddiedantes7732 Ай бұрын
Laeddis isn't compromised exclusively from the spelling of Daniels and vice versa the anagrams use the exact same letters in combinations of the first and last name. That is, the last name Laeddis isn't exclusive to the letters in the last name Daniels, and the fist name Andrew isn't exclusive to the letters in the first name Edward. That's the reason there is no n in Laeddis and two "d"s present. Edward Daniels is a recombination of Andrew Laeddis and vice versa. There could also be several other passable first and last names combinations.
@mylesmarkson1686
@mylesmarkson1686 Ай бұрын
@@eddiedantes7732 Good point. The whole anagram-thing is beyond silly anyway. I'd like to know of one person with DID who has ever created an alter-ego out of the letters in their name. If the whole point is to distance oneself from their true identity, then wouldn't you come up with a name that is as far away from your own as you can get? You definitely wouldn't scramble the letters in your OWN name to come up with a new one. To me, this is the smoking gun that shows that it was all part of the doctor's scheme... "Hey, if we can get him to look all over the island for people whose names are anagrams of his and his wife's names, that'll prove just how crazy he really is!"

How about the fact that he's got the bandage above his left eye from the beginning of the movie? When he's on the boat, he had just started recovering from a FAILED lobotomy. So because of this, they have to drug him and then gaslight him to try and convince him of the Andrew narrative and that he was crazy.

21/3/24 i disagree the cave doctor is real. Anything with fire 🔥 were created by him. He repeated his actions for 2 years, he can create characters in his brain 🧠 to give him hints to do😔This is the saddest movie ever, the truth was his wife drowned all 3 his kids, he was angry and painful to kill his wife to end her sickness. Himself suffering living in hell so he created himself a new identity. But because this new identity he started to confuse himself also his ability can cause danger to doctors and other patients. He chose to die instead of carry on living in hell with those pain.

So in this universe, fire does not actually exist? So how might one keep warm outside in the cold then? I guess the-2 could snuggle up together, but you claim she's not real. Maybe he just died in the cold that night, and everything we see after that is what Cawley WISHES had happened? Interesting theory...
@eddiedantes7732
@eddiedantes7732 Ай бұрын
@@mylesmarkson1686 But we're assuming he was keeping warm. The camera shows that in the cave he is shaking. The dialogue indicates that it's probably a pharmacologic side effect, but if it's a delusion, then the shaking is probably just a side effect of his being cold and inability to keep warm. Also, we do know that he was prescribed chlorpromazine in the movie and we don't know the body temperature regulating effects this drug may have on his body.

It's all true until the end. Teddy says in the end to Chuck that whatever happens in the island is not good. And Chuck looks to the bald doctor and waves his head like "no". We did not succeed, he is not crazy. Then whatever happens it doesn't really matter and we don't get to see anyway. Nobody said that Teddy is getting a lobotomy. Yes, there are signs and medical tools but it doesn't show more, so it doesn't mean anything.
