Gotta say, you did a phenomenal job with this "what if" scenario. As a fanfiction writer myself, this actually has every element to make it a great one. And that's saying something. How Sitri would affect the story has definitely been handled very well. You've got a handle on how she would be and how she would interact. Her being close to Flayn is another plus for your idea. I also like how you made her concerned about Byleth with Conan Tower and the battle with Miklan, not to mention Byleth being unfamiliar with the concern. I will agree with everyone that Rhea was almost too antagonistic, but for specific points. How she is at the start with Sitri's revival makes sense. However, her interrogating Mercedes wouldn't happen for a few reasons. First being that her classmates would step up, at the very least, to protect her. I can see that with Sylvain, Ingrid, and even Dedue. And second, Seteth and Jeralt would have called her out and had her come to her senses. Seteth does act as her conscience in the canon story, and this is no different. However, I will say her viewpoint on humanity is accurate. Nemesis severely skewed her view about humans, so this viewpoint is not entirely out of place. But she wouldn't voice this out to Seteth in any regard. She would keep this close to her chest. Overall, a solid start. I am eager to see where you take this story. Heck, if you write this up on a fanfiction site, I would follow and read it in a heartbeat. Slick work Blazing Knight.

This was amazing! I'm interested to see where this story goes. I'm glad that Jeralt is involved here; my main criticism towards Cindered Shadows was his lack of presence there. The voice actors all did great too! And I am glad that Sothis is still sticking around. My fingers are crossed that both of Byleth's parents get to live through the whole story! As for any criticisms for the story itself, well, I only have one... I do have to echo the comments and say that you've made Rhea just a bit to antagonistic, especially for this point in the story. It feels like you plucked Crimson Flower Rhea out of her story and plopped her into White Clouds. I will admit that I can overlook the whole "throwing Dimitri into the wall thing" because everything there was happening in the moment, but this just doesn't feel like the Rhea I got to know on White Clouds, Azure Moon, Verdant Wind, and Silver Snow. (Yes, I did play Crimson Flower last. Why are you looking at me like that? In all seriousness though this isn't affecting my opinion here). I also want to say that even though Sitri is back, I do think Rhea should still have a focus on Byleth. You know, for the whole "I still want to bring my mother back" thing. The crest of flames is still in Byleth, after all.

This is starting off on a good note i'd say, even though i feel Rhea is a bit too antagonistic to the students at points especially Mercedes and it feels like we're just seeing Crimson Flower Rhea and not White Cloud Rhea, but other then that i'd say this was handled as well for a scenario like this.

It is a little strange seeing Rhea this antagonistic. Sure she was like this in Crimson Flower but that all stems from Byleth’s betrayal. Seeing it here is a little weird. The narrative was well written, the characters’ dialogue was spot-on for these similar or new situations, and I loved the twists of Jeralt/Seteth versus the Death Knight and Rhea showing her dark side on Mercedes. I do hope this continues, I would especially like to see how Sitri develops and how the three lords will view Rhea going forward!
@cavik9772 жыл бұрын
As a fanfiction writer for Fire Emblem and part of a fanfiction comunity for almost three years, it certainly is a pleasant surprise seeing a Fire Emblem youtuber whose content I really like delve into it as well. Now, in terms of narration you've got a good thing going, with a good choice of words giving an idea of what's going on and a glimpse into what the character are feeling that is actual showing rather than telling. The parts where it's mostly listing development points where chosen well for parts that don't have that much emotional weight or are just minor routine that isn't really important for the story reasons. Sitri's character is coherent with what little we know of her. The character interactions also felt natural (even if a couple of lines felt overly written) and this twist on Cindered Shadows had ripple effects that make sense in contest (something not as easy to come across as you would believe), even if a couple of spots felt a bit more...dramatic than they needed to be. That said, I'm afraid I'm noticing some common mistakes when dealing with fanfics. First of all, biases. Rhea is noticeably more antagonistic in here than in canon, especially with that part with Mercedes. Sure, she's not that subtle all the time, but this felt more like her Crimson Flower version where she's gone over the deep end because of Byleth turning against her, rather than White Clouds where she's still relatively reasonable. On top of that, it feels there's already an undercurrent of hate against her among the students that just wasn't there in the game (minus Edelgard and Hubert for obvious reasons). Now, not all biases are bad, don't get me wrong. Edelgard and Dimitri and Jeralt and Seteth growing closer is something that I'm pretty sure everyone can get behind given their shared history , but that's because you're building upon something that is already there rather than tearing a character down. Another thing is how the chapter with the Death Knight/Jeritza reveal is handled. Now, I may be reading this wrong, but the alteration to how Manuela discovers the underground tunnel being different from how it is in canon isn't a bad thing per se, but I'm seeing what feels like the trend of adding stuff to one's story concept rather than expanding what your concept already is. The premise here is what effects Sitri being revived after Cindered Shadows would entail, so how does everything that spurred from here *really* tie into that? So yeah, you've got a good thing going, but I would highly recommend watching out for how you handle Rhea. As it is, you run a high risk of overshadowing your base idea with what feels like an excuse for demonizing Rhea (and I say it as someone who doesn't like her). I wish you good luck if you decide to delve into writing fanfiction again.
@nahte1234562 жыл бұрын
I really don't understand what you mean. Rhea made openly racist books, told Byleth clearly she will kill the kids for ANYTHING against the Church, and is openly happy when they get rid of the South Church heratics. Also, you know, tried to make Sothis take Byleth's body to kill her/him. Rhea isn't pure evil, but she's not stable either. At all.
@4wheal2 жыл бұрын
@@nahte123456 The books are not actually only racist through that's more just the interpretation that some people take. If anything Rhea actually encrouges the center chruch to be more open to others and invites people from diffrent nations and faiths into the academy. Those heretics had alredy tried to kill her and then used on old man's grief to get a lot of people killed and then tried to steal her mothers remaisn no wonder she wants them gone. It's impilled that Rhea actually belived Byleth was never actually a person just Sothis with memory loss that's why she was hoping the throne would awaken the memories. @@4wheal I can't find the quote for the book so I'll take your word on it, I can't cite it so I won't argue it. But even then she is THE leader on religion in the country, racism on this level can still be mitigated by her position. Also she invites 2 people, and only now. There are no signs she ever did so before Shamir. I'm not talking about Slither, but the Western Church, she calls them Heretics and sends her elite knights to kill them without any word of diplomacy or how it got this bad. Implied where? Also that just makes no sense, we know Sothis, Byleth acts nothing like Sothis. Even if she thought it was from memory loss this is still a new person. Chapter 3 before the mission Rhea. "This mission should prove useful in demonstrating to the students how foolish it would be to ever turn their blades on the Church..." after the mission Rhea. "However, we must punish any sinner who may inflict harm upon believers, even if those sinners are civilians. I pray the students learned a valuable lesson about the fate that awaits all who are foolish enough to point their blades towards the heavens." She openly says she will kill even civilians that "may" do so, and then talks about the students learning what happens if they also oppose her, after talking about "demonstrating" the students. At best you can argue her use of the term "blades" mean she only means if they physically assault the church, but she also says "even civilians" and uses vague terms like 'harm' or 'towards the heavens' which aren't just physical terms.

@@nahte123456 Dude the westen Chruch has already tried to have Rhea killed at least once before that was the whole situation with Ashe brother. The westen chruch after getting exposed also starts to show up in side missions as enemies and even have some missions where they are taking over historical relics and killing anyone who comes. Rhea also dosent kill everyone at the westen chruch she simple has the confrimed leaders brought down. Dude the chruch teachings speaks out against the Crest system and says how using the Crests to put yourself above the people is a sin in the goddes eyes but that hasn't actually stopped the nobility from keeping it going. Not sure how you think they will suddenly be able to stop racism if they can't stop that either. Although the 2 issues do seem realted as one of the main reasons why the Kingdom likes Crests is the power of the relics which allows them to protect themselves from hostile nations whitch happens to be every country that borders Fodlan. Byleth main personality in story is an emotionless being that bearly reacts to anything at frist and takes a while to even open up about basic stuff. Rhea believing her mother death and then rebirth having an effect on her personality makes sense. Your twisted her words into somthing far more sinister then it's ment to be by saying may she means if anyone dose turn against the chruch and hurts innocent belivers they will be an enemy and treated like one. She is not saying they will attack people because they believe there is a possibility you might attack them.

@@4wheal First you're just ignoring what was said to have a point. She said, again I quote, "Even civilians" and was very clear about "Demonstrating" it. That is not 'just' the church. Also she clearly says in that same chapter that she expected Chatherine to already have them taken care of despite only being rumors, again that's what Rhea said, so it was already planned that despite no evidence she was going to send someone to take care of anything without question. Except Seteth outright says they could be doing more. He even points out they allowed for Nobles and Commoners to have different sleeping areas. And even in Rhea's teachings they are still called "blessings" for a reason. She did nothing to try stamping that out.

At this point Dimitri will hate both the church and the empire. Or should I say his hatred for Rhea is growing and I think Edelgard would pick up on this, maybe even using Dimitri as a tool for her grand ambitions. Or she doesn't really utilize this and things go the same as canon. And Claude is also variable since it's probable that he might even side with the Edelgard since he and her shared similar goals and he get to see more of the bad side to the church and is less than willing to help them out. Or maybe El still wants to conquer the alliance and the kingdom and Claude still isn't fond of her methods for achieving her goals like in canon so they might still oppose each other. And it very likely Dimitri we'll discover the Flame Emperor discussion with the leader of slitherers and still thinks the Flame Emperor was a cause of everything that happened in the monastery and ruining his life. Either way this what if and this story has good potential and I feel like with your writing things would change and I can't wait for what changes will happen.

This is a good fanfic I have to say that the idea of Byleth’s mom being revived from the ritual with Alfric most likely sacrificing himself to bring her back definitely feels in character for him. Also Considering That Sitri is, in Rhea’s mind, Her “Daughter” it makes sense why she in the heat of the moment would rush to her side while shoving Dimitri away as well as when later, she heard her “daughter”, “Granddaughter”, Seteth, and Flayn were Kidnapped/attacked by the Death Knight/Jeriza and then learned that Mercedes is his older sister, it’s in character for her to assume the worst and demand Answers from Mercedes. It’s also in Character for Dimitri to show some “unhinged” side from him realizing what Mercedes went through considering that he knows she is innocent and one of his friends. And finally I have to give credit for your characterization of Byleth which in my opinion is the best of them all because she would understandably feel a mix of emotions with her mom being brought back from the grave and because of how she grew up she would not know how to feel about Sitri Being a doting mom. I will give this part of the fanfic a 9/10 Because Everyone has fitting emotions for the situations in their moments and I agree that Cindered shadows feels the most accurate after the mausoleum and before Miklan (especially considering that Edelgard mentions that during the DLC that the mausoleum was “Last months incident”) and I look forward to seeing the next part of the fanfic.

This was quite impressive if I do say so myself. The voice acting and the pacing were very well done. And while I agree that Rhea was a little more Crimson Flower-y a earlier than usual here, the argument could easily be made that Crimson flower is the best umbrella route for What-if like this. People forget that Rhea has ALWAYS been antagonistic, even in White Clouds. And Sitri was basically just another experiment by Rhea, who attempts to sacrifice Byleth to bring back Sothis regardless of what route you choose. Theres no reason to believe Rhea won’t attempt to do the same to either Sitri or Byleth again in the future, breaking apart THEIR family to selfishly try and regain HERS. The entire basis of Crimson flower is punishing Rhea for things just like that, and creating a world where people like Rhea can’t exist anymore, so honestly I consider this to be perfectly in character for the overarching story

Personally can't wait to see the fallow up with Crimson Flower, there are a ton of ways it could go not to mention perhaps altering Jeralts fate. With the set up Byleth would have more than enough reason to distrust Rhea and the Church, more so with everything that's been hidden and Rheas outbursts. This could also lead to a new route of Blue Lions as well as not only was Dimitri harmed but seeing Mercedes treated in such a way would stick with him. If there is one thing I've learned is Dimitri never forgets. This could give us a more angry and distrustful Wild Boar then we originally got as he would see little reason to side with the Church no matter the reasoning.

I have a “What if” scenario myself: What if Sitri had been able to communicate with Sothis, like how Byleth can, before she died? And what if Sothis retained all of Sitri’s shared knowledge, as well as the memories she had while conscious in Sitri? It would definitely make me think that Byleth would have a little more interest in Faith, as Sothis’ tales of Sitri would basically give her a form of closure about not having a mother growing up. As well, it would cause Byleth to ask Jeralt about Sitri, which would give them a closer relationship as father and daughter…as well as make Jeralt’s death that much more painful to bear. Perhaps even going so far as to adopt Dimitri’s hatred of Edelgard once she’s revealed as the Flame Emperor….

While I really like this what if scenario, there’s still one issue I have: Rhea’s intensity. While we all know that she can become irrational when involving things she cares about, by this point in the story I don’t think she’d be THIS intense. I believe she’d still try to make the initial accusation to Mercedes, but I think Seteth and (if Mercy was in their house) Byleth would tell her she’s overreacting and Rhea would listen to them. I don’t think she’s “slipped” enough to act so irrationally that she’s ignore the words of her friend and the one housing Sothis. Other than that though I’d say the character writing in this story has been great!

Nice work from what I can see. It's really enjoyable with my only real head scratching being Rhea's hostilities but I can see others already have addressed that so I won't harp on it. I can see at this point after agreeing to train Sitri here that if we where including gameplay she'd be a playable unit along with Flayn after the end of this chapter with affinity for Faith, Reason, and maybe Leadership to reflect her past as a nun of the church and her calming presence making her a great gremory. But have trouble with most weapons and heavy armor to reflect her frail body. But perhaps with a budding talent in either swords to reflect her training with her daughter and having held the Creststone of Flames inside her for so long and opening up Mortal Savant as an end class or in lances reflecting her husband's knack at cavalry and opening things like Dark and Holy Knight for her end classes. Just figure I'd say that incase she takes to the battlefield in any of the routes.

This is quite an intriguing take on Sitri's revival! However... this does open something up for Crimson Flower or Crimson Blaze. If Sitri remembers the power of the Crest Stones, if she remembers that Rhea tried to resurrect Sothis with the Crest Stone... would she not also be on the side of Edelgard? To destroy the high position crest stones are in, and make sure that no one else has been corrupted by the dark powers within as well as their origins? It would also give more backbone to Byleth and Sitri joining the Adrestian Empire, for her students as well as Sitri's concern for the rest of the world, as heart breaking as it is.
@BLAZINGKNIGHT502 жыл бұрын
If I recall correctly Sitri doesn't know anything about resurrecting Sothis. She is aware of the crest stone in heart which is why Byleth got it but I don't think Rhea ever told her about its true purpose.
@deucesommerfeld12482 жыл бұрын
@@BLAZINGKNIGHT50 That is fair, I doubt Rhea would tell Sitri that stuff. But her disposition towards the danger of crest stones would still put Byleth and Sitri in more of a position to join Edelgard if you go down Crinson Flowerr

I liked this a lot, it's a neat concept. And while I partially agree with all the people saying that Rhea was too antagonistic, if you think about it, she gets angry very easily to begin with (think about any time you go against her, like not wanting to give back the lance of ruin) and she views Sitri like a daughter essentially and gets fairly worked up talking about her in Cindered Shadows, so I don't think it's unreasonable that she's being hyper antagonistic, especially if we also take into consideration that for all everyone knows, Sitri could at any point keel over, or go it's morpnin time and turn into a monster given what the chalice *normally* does, so being wholly against her venturing into the outside world makes sense to me. But maybe I'm just bias as a CF enjoyer, though honestly even before I finished ANY route I felt like Rhea was a little too "it's my way or the highway". And everyone being suspicious of her makes sense to me due to the fact that Claude is already skeptical of her and the church even in base game, we all know Edelgard's feelings on the church, and after what happens here Dimitri has every right to feel like Rhea is being sus, especially given he openly admits that he disagrees with a lot in the church but as prince of the HOLY kingdom, he's in a tight spot. Anyway that's just my piece, I hope to see more of this regardless though!
@crazydude09ful2 жыл бұрын
I can’t help but think you’re setting up a possible alliance in the future between Edelgard and Dimitri due to how Edelgard was the only one to help him after Rhea knocked him away from Sitri in the Abyss and Dimitri’s early look into his deranged mental state and Rhea being the cause of it. Also, Rhea may be a bit antagonistic but I believe it makes sense considering the circumstances. She just got her ‘daughter’ back and would want to make sure she is safe, going so far as to threaten those she believes pose a threat, no matter how small it may be, all for Sitri’s sake. It’s not ok, but emotions, especially love for others, can make someone act in ways one wouldn’t expect them to. Adding Rhea’s personal grudge against ‘humanity’ and it’s no wonder she lost her temper against Mercedes.

Honestly to fix the rhea issue you just need to dial it back a little. she can go back to fully unhinged mode later in a progression, because we know shes capable of that, but it should take time for her to get there. also, I have to say that Jeralt and Seteth team up was awesome and my favourite part of the video

I for one would like to know what Sitri would do if Byleth sides with Edelgard. Would she side with Rhea and the other Nabateans, or with Byleth? The effort you put into this is simply incredible. If it wasn’t obvious that you should do more what ifs, then expect a huge amount of fan demands in the future. That said, I have to put my foot down and say this. You made Rhea way too antagonistic. Losing trust in her throughout White Cloud is understandable, given her severe issues but I think you’ve made your bias for Edelgard’s perspective too on the nose and the students already have a poor opinion of her like this besides being just scared on how she treats her enemies makes Crimson Flower way too obvious when Sitri’s presence should give way for a new path to follow.

A lot of people have an issue with how antagonist Rhea is here but honestly given how she seems to be a person suffering from trauma over the lost of her people and mother. I could imagine that when given back what is in a sense her own daughter, and her trauma with humanity and the losses she never healed properly from that in a way Rhea could easily start to become unhinged due to her own fear of once more being forced to lose or possibly lose what little of her family she still has. So I honestly find this interesting with Rhea if it can be spun right in that direction and sense. Seeing how Rhea is so defined by her grief over her mother and how that usually affect her in different routes in regards to byleth it feels pausible

I already saw this issue coming. Using CF as a basis for Rhea's personality, while not realizing that that is not how she is normally. It's an easy mistake to make especially is you've never played church route, and never made any effort to speak to her during WC. You end up not knowing what Rhea's personality actually is and take CF as the gospel truth when it's not.

This is a good concept, but there’s a lot that can be improved. My most prevalent issue is that aside from Fire Emblem classics like “dastard” and “gods”, the dialogue seems rather modern and mundane; I highly recommend watching Esper The Bard’s video about writing good dialogue for fantasy settings, which I will link to at the end of the comment. Another major complaint I have is Rhea’s last lines in this; she’s mostly written well here, but the last few things she says felt out of character. Aside from the VA for Edelgard, Constance, and Annete having noticeably worse mic quality than the others, and the presentation issues that are inherent to any attempt at putting a fanfic on a video hosting service, those were my only criticisms about this; it’s a pretty good idea, and I’m interested in seeing where this goes from here.
