As far as Tournament performance is concerned, The Dream Team was much stronger than their opponents as The Redeem Team was pretty much a Silver Medal team without Kobe. However, the level of Competition is the one to be questioned as International Teams in 2008 are undoubtedly much stronger and competitive than it was in 1992.

The dream team has no spacing. An OLD Larry Bird is the best shooter on the dream team (37% career 3pfg), meanwhile the redeem team has Chris Paul who is considered slightly above AVERAGE from 3 point range by today's standards and just shot 40% from 3 this season (and he's not even the best shooter on this team lol). They also have kobe, and prime melo, who fucking DOMINATES from the international 3 point line. It's not recency bias that causes us to think redeem > dream, we just look at stats and how the game has evolved. It's older people clinging to their childhood idols that causes them to think dream > redeem.

I love looking at the stats. The 92 team took 1 3-pointer and missed. The 08 team took 20 and made 7. 92 team was 22/29 from free throw and the 08 team was 9/10. I remember the summer before my 5th grade year watching all the Dream team games and just being in awe as a kid. I take nothing at all away from the Redeem team's roster because that was without doubt the best olympic team we've had since the Dream team. Imho aside from the '92 team having the edge in overall talent, the main reason i believe they'd win is that collection of legends had alot of "you cant beat me" type cats. That killer instinct alot of the guys had i believe is unmatched. I dont believe any team past, present or future could have beat the Dream team

Of course MJ would be the star. When they showed up for practice for '92 he quickly showed everyone that he wouldn't be out-matched by Magic. He basically beat the other 1/2 of the dream team by himself, when he decided it was time. As good as some of the players are today, I don't think they could beat a team full of their super-star peers. There's a great short documentary on that practice. It got intense, and eventually Magic handed over the reigns.

Been watching olympic games for fun today, it's a tough call but I'd give it to the 92 Dream Team as well. The game styles were totally different but back in 92 the defensive game seemed far stronger. Also, while Kobe and MJ seem alike on paper, the difference with MJ was that he was crafty and had insane gravity defying moves he could do mid-air. Not just jumping high, but navigating the ball through opponents while in air, like a flying contortionist. Clyde Drexler is also a bit underrated - any time he was in, he would cut straight through defense. I think the real problem any other team would face is that it nearly doesn't matter who the 92 Dream Team rotates in, they're still extremely effective.That means they can keep their in game players fresh while other teams are forced to keep their best players in no matter how tired they get. Which plays right into their strong defensive game as other teams miss more and more shots. Most factors seem equal but defense, fresh players at all times, and MJ win the game.

Magic didn't look rusty for any of the games, and actually in scrimmage went head to head against an MJ led team and did very well. Also, Barkley was the leading scorer for this team so he would not be a 6th man. Barkley was even more of a force in international play than in the NBA. They almost didn't need MJ to exert himself in the games.

I think Pippen on defense would be a factor throughout the game. -- In those years he was a beast on defense sniffing out and exposing any weakness on the other team -- he and MJ always turned up the defense for big games. Of course Kobe would be stellar, but not more than Michael. MJ would score 10 points more thank Kobe and have a stronger defensive game. Another huge and probably the biggest factor (even over Jordan's play) would be Karl, Patrick and Barkley turning this game into an "elbow fest" to control the pace of the game. Lebron (the redeem team's other great player) would see more elbows and hard fouls than he could handle in one game. Barkley and Malone would make it their mission to take Lebron out of his game. Barkley for sure would make it a point to get real physical/fight with Lebron. Larry and Magic would not see many minutes due to the pace of the game and being late in their careers, but Dream Team would be ok without high minutes from them. -- As they both would be clutch even off the bench for short stretches.

I disagree. 2008 had Dwyane Wade, prime Kobe, & they actually had legit big men (Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, even Carlos Boozer averaging 21 & 10 that season)

Most people would agree wit you but they really aren't better. The 08 team had everyone in their prime or right before their prime (with the exception of j. Kidd)

For all intent and purpose, the players will be all be fine with this (Physiologically and psychologically). They will then, go to training camp (Starts June 7) in preparation for the 2016-2017 NBA season. That Roster will (and should!) be replacing the New York Knick Roster. Why the Knicks? You tell me why I pick them to play for the NEW YORK KNIKCS. Then, to keep this short, they play the 82 season games, playoffs and finals just like a normal NBA team would under all the same rules as the present. But here's another catch... if one of the players should get injured they just take very futuristic pill that will make the injury heal in a matter of hours. My point is no variable will and should comprimise this team for the purpose of this mental basketball excersice of ours. So please don't even bring out the "What will old shaq do if he see's his younger self? What advise will old Gary Payton tell his younger self?" If you want to think and or write about that type of "Twlight Zone" stuff, ...I'm sure it's ok. But please, lets just focus on the basketball. Questions? 1. Will they go 82-0, sweep the Playoffs and Finals? 2. What will their weakness be and how will teams exploit it? 3. What will this team's strenghts be? (Please be specific) 4. Why do you think the players that I picked above is the best team to be assembled? 4. If you built a team with the same premise as this team (time travel, etc) that can match up to this team in fire power, what players will they be composed of? (The present players on that Knicks rosters will not be available) 5. If you were to built your own dream teamwith the same premise as mine but now you can pick the players that I picked too which players (and coach) will you pick and why? And last but not least... 6. Why is your squad better than the team that I built? Let the debates begin basketball savants!!

I know. Chris Paul, Kobe, Lebron, KD, Chandler. It was better than 2008. Neither even aproach the 92 dream team though.
