Someone this is called the stress-recovery-adaptation cycle. A good experiment of this would be to do a resistance training program with barbells such as Starting Strength. In 6 months your force production will double or possibly triple because of the stress you are imposing on your body. Your body recovers, and NEEDS to adapt. Although that's just life as we know it. As far as current Terran life, many if not most complex plants and animals wouldn't be able to live in this world, and aerial ones almost certainly couldn't. Although we humans would probably be able to survive with lowered lifespans due to the stress it would put on our hearts.

Friends 4ever Well I just finished learning some stuff about gravity and orbits at the moment in Physics, and it was a bit of a guess. If the sun halved in size, it would have 8 times less mass, and the radius of Earth's orbit of the sun would have to be 8 times larger. I don't really know how it would reach this point, which is why I said an elliptical orbit, presumably staying an average distance from the sun 8 times greater than it is now. I also can't be bothered figuring out if the Earth would be travelling at escape velocity to escape the new sun's orbit, which might be true. Also, if the sun became more dense, but has the same mass, then there wouldn't be a change, as the force of gravity is calculated from the centre of mass.

I could be wrong but I imagine the root pressure theory. The stronger the gravity, the more salts and minerals are needed in the root to provide a greater pressure to push water up the xylem, so more energy is used in active transport to bring in the salts, ions, and minerals against the diffusion gradient
