It's not unreasonable to conclude that the Kais have god ki. It might not be a lot, but Goku absorbing even a little of it would be enough to allow the ritual to be done with 5 Saiyans instead of 6 (imagine the god ki to be a small spark, and the others giving energy to be fuel that sparks it into a full inferno)
