tis an historic misconception, SPQR was only used in the Republican era, whilst the wreath was used in the Imperial, Senatus Populsusqe Romanus came from the early to late Republican Era when the Senate was controlled by the Optimates party and Patriarcian families like Julia, Fabia, Cornelia etc it isnt until Marius and Sullas civil war when the Optimates party lost their sway over the senate, and also the Aqulia "Eagle" was not used until Gaius Marius also, since before that more then 7 sigils existed, like the Boar, Bull, Eagle, Minotaur, Lion and a few more, Marius scrapped all sigils and made only the Aqulia as the banner and symbol of Rome. SPQR with an Eagle is a new concept.

Rome would actually be much larger if we consider the entire desert like how we do for countries like Algeria The only reason why most maps don't include the sahara desert portions is because of how desolate they were. Rome only had a loose control of those areas A real comparison would be to exclude all the non populated desert portions of Australia if you want to compare it to Rome

It’s crazy how big it is but how small it actually looks. Think of this: at the height of its power, Rome held a FIFTH OF MANKIND under its rule. Compare them to the size of the mongol empire, Rome looks like something that came out of the toy box.
