Just a game opinion use probably do better than you think have you seen half the teams down there 😂 think most team from Scotland would do good and the extra money they make From tv . Advertising better sponsor and promotion or demoted in league could sell one your better players and would get 5x more money for them . That would go long way in keeping players. Better wages to better players

Aberdeen should indeed be considered 3rd. Aberdeen are the only Scottish Club to win TWO European Trophies (beating Real Madrid and Hamburg in the two finals concerned - and with all Scottish teams, ie no foreign players). The reason the top Scottish Clubs have become less competitive over the last few decades, is because of the huge amount of finance the English top flight generates through TV revenue (Scotland has only a tiny fraction of population by comparison - fewer viewers/fewer payers). At present they can't compete financially. As a result, the best young players are snapped up by the cash rich English clubs, usually before they've reached their full potential. (Andy Robertson, Keiran Tierney, John McGinn, etc. and young foreign players that Scots clubs have brought on, James Maddison (English/Aberdeen) and Virgil Van Dyke (Dutch/Celtic) are more examples of talent draining from the Scottish game in a way that didn't happen in the past. If these teams were actually playing in a British league and shared in the massive finance that such a league would generate, they would be retaining their best players (and the managers: Ferguson, Moyes, Shankley, Busby, Graham, etc. - who have left to go south over the years.
