I wonder if greater integration would have been possible between New England, Southern Ontario and the Maritimes, permitting the English speaking Canadians to bypass Quebec. And with France having a strong ally on the continent in the Confederacy, perhaps they'd attempt to resurrect Quebecois nationalism, with Quebec ultimately achieving independence but ceding its territory south of the St. Lawrence River. The failure of the American states to gain at least partial control over that waterway always seemed like a terrible oversight. They could have gained even more economic advantage out of the Great Lakes and Hudson River with just the southern half of the St. Lawrence.

@Will DeMarcoBoth sides accuses the neutral British of betrayal and both employed the carrot and the stick. The Union blockade of the CSA led to what was known as the Lancashire Cotton Famine. There was a drop of 90% in trade with those states and the cotton in warehouses was exhausted. Up to 60% of the workers were idle and this led to widespread hardship abd this in turn led to pressure from some quarters to overturn the blockade, riots, and the flag of CSA being flown over a number of cotton mills. As the war went on ; cotton was increasingly sourced from India and Egypt. There was support for the Union and absolute opposition to slavery from the middle classes and factory and mill workers . Lincoln acknowledged their sacrifice in writing. Britain also depended on the US for about a quarter of it's supply of wheat and the city had invested heavily in the railroads bring built across the US. Britons who fought for the Union such as Henry George Hore seems to have been forgotten.

@David McDonald 1. What did I say that is any way related to the Nazis? 2. Where did the word "gentile" come from in this discussion? 3. What examples of "progressive Nazism" can you provide, cause I haven't heard a single one yet. 4. If south seceded, the weren't going to rejoin voluntarily, nor were they going to abolish slavery anytime soon. The South left due to the influence of plantation owners wanting to maintain their dominance over southern society- any abolition was a threat to that. If slavery was ever going to go away, it would've been extremely slow, most likely transforming into a form of racial indentured servitude and Jim Crow, since one of the fears of southern whites was that freed blacks would cause a race war due to either inherent barbarism, retribution, or a combination of the two. They were not going to go free. Why would the South want to rejoin? The societies were so different, especially the upper classes who controlled them, that if peaceful separation happened, they had no reason to get back together. 5. What evidence do you have for these large numbers of anti-white hate crimes? 6. Where in this discussion did I attack white people?

It's usually overstated how different states are, they're all pretty similar to one another from a foreign (non-American) perspective, but even within America it's more like different blocks of identical states than the pretty silly idea of "50 unique countries". Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, The Dakotas, could all be one huge state and nothing would really change (outside of the political power of the area), same with many regions of the USA. Michigan, California and Alabama are all pretty distinct from one another in terms of politics, economics, geography, history and demography (while still being clearly American in culture), but Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama are largely interchangeable with little difference besides accent and lines on the map.

An early trip up: the idea of the New England states bringing church and state together, leaving aside the original idea for the states many of the states had different denominations thus causing a major problem for a grouping of church and state. While many think the founding of the states under English rule was for freedom of religion the reverse was true, it was to have "our faith's rights" not others. I wonder in this alternative history if Vermont could have played politics and remained at least to a degree independent?

Venom Knight It would count as a Confederate victory as they wanted independence and a stalemate would see most, if not all, of the revolutionaries staying in the CSA and then possibly break apart into smaller nations when slavery is not as big in the world. As an example, Florida and Georgia would take the chance to get independence and then create the American Union which would create a small faction but they would be a guarantee of the greater European Powers, which they chose Prussia due to its recent gains in Europe and vast weapons. They would later join the German-Austrian alliance in WWI. The USA would use the chance to declare on the now weaker Confederates in about 1910 and start a war. It was a sudden attack which made relations with the rest of the world harder but not as hard if it was the Confederates. At the start of the war the Confederates were pushed back on all fronts and were close to losing their capital in 1911. However in the Defence of Richmond they pushed back the US army and moved their capital to Houston in Texas. What happened during the next few years turned into Trench Warfare and it stopped more attacks into Confederate soil. During the start of WWI, the Confederacy start losing ground with America starting to cut into Texas, so they join the German-Austrian alliance as they can call in Florida and Georgia. This creates the North Confederate Alliance which are able to create ships that hinder the British and French ability to send in African and Indian forces, forcing them to move by land for a time. During this time Mexico is still bitter about losing its North American territories and proposes an ultimatum to the USA, let them in the war and take Texas and Louisiana or they join the Confederates. The US declines their offer which makes them join the Confederates. The leaders of the Confederacy would usually decline but Mexico held a lot of manpower when hearing about the Second US Civil War. It is now the back end of 1914 and the USA is starting to feel the pressure against the Mexicans and the North Confederate Alliance (I’ll just continue to call them Confederates) and decides to enter the war on the Entente side. Due to the constant skirmishes at sea with Confederate ships, Britain is forced to take a few ships away from the blockade of Germany to deal with them. This allows the German navy to push against the British blockade and are then putting pressure on the ship builders in Britain. This makes the British create smaller and less effective ships called ‘carmines’ to try and halt the Germans from getting close to France. The US, due to entering the war on the Entente side was able to take out Confederate ships and starts to bomb naval ports which destroys Confederate naval support to the Germans. The year is 1915 and the US is starting to push back. After losing New Mexico to the Confederates and California to Mexico, they launch an offensive which could make or break the Confederate lines. They launch a naval invasion into Florida, deciding to try and invade their capital of Miami. The offensive proves successful in the first few weeks and then proved to only lead to trench warfare. In return, the Confederacy and Mexican armies finally come together and decide to break Union trench armies at Pensilvania to get to Washington D.C. This is known as Operation New Independence and proves to only push the Union army back a little bit. This then makes more soldiers get transferred to protect the capital but this is not exploited with both sides believing it would not result in much change and just have more losses for the Confederates. It is now August and morale on both sides is weighed low. This leases to the. Floridian general proposing an offensive in Florida to try and make the Union army send more soldiers down there and leave a gap in the line waiting for reserves. This plan is idealised and soon the Floridian general was in charge of 60,000 troops to take out the 40,000 troops that are entrenched to push the rest of the 10,000 back. This plan worked due to the fact a storm happened on the coast a few months back which destroyed the months worth of ration supplies leaving many hungry in the army. The plan was put into action and lead to the complete capture of the command post at the Union Floridian Offensive in a few weeks. This lead to 15,000 soldiers changing sides based on the fact the Confederacy had food available at all times. This made headlines and called the US the Big Wimp and a Tough Shadow. It destroyed morale but the president’s speech made the morale in most troops go up and hold a solid defence. While reserves were sent into France which helped them push back and regain parts of Belgium. The German Empire was seemingly going to win despite the efforts of the Entente. In 1916 the Battle of Verdun destroyed any chance of a French counterattack in the next months. The French called for aid so the Somme was set up as a battleground for the British and the Americans set up a battlefield in Nancy. The combined attacks were enough to push the Germans back but it cost the Americans on the Home Front as it lead to them being pushed back on the west coast as far as Canada, leading to the Entente going to war with Mexico. This all lead to the 1916 offensive to help with pushing the Confederates and Mexicans back. This worked as they did not realise Mexican technology was not as advanced. The Union army was then given a tank so they can recreate their own to use on the battlefield. They ended up not being used as much but it was enough to hold their lines back. Due to all of this and instability in the government, Mexico split into 2 as a civil war had broken out. This lead Mexico to have to deal with a peace treaty which was very one sided. Mexico did not agree and instead told the rebels they can have independence if they help them in the war. The rebels agree. It is 1917 and the Russians are once again on their last legs. It is the same with France and the other Entente powers. The Germans knew that if they made an offensive on the east the west could push and vice versa. This lead to the Germans allowing the Ottomans to become their allies and start to push into Africa. Even with American assistance, many Canadians and British are being used in the American Front which has lead to a slow retreat for the French in their homeland. They realise that with Ottoman involvement it will make it harder to attack the Germans while holding territories in Africa. This almost leads to a peace deal but the public wants to fight in which they do. It ends up as a stalemate on the American Front but an order is given to try and push into Washington. All Confederate troops are very demoralised so they try to end the war quickly with the Americans and then helping the Mexicans defeat Canada. All of the reserves are in this attack. It is a do or die. They push and push and push. Washington DC stands on the brink of capture and therefore the end of US involvement. The Confederates take Washington DC due to superiority in numbers. The American ranks were used by the Union a lot in the defence but the American tanks proved to be worthless and would not work as much as it could. The US states capitulate and surrender. *The Treaty of Washington* 1. Lands such as New Mexico, Arizona and California are given to Mexico 2. War reparations to be paid towards Mexico 3. The Confederacy to get Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas 4. The Confederacy must get paid war reparations 5. Due to the aid from Germany, New York must be claimed as German lands and renamed to New Hamburg 6. Confederate and Mexican troops are allowed to roam through the USA without permission *Treaty signed on 4th July 1917* This treaty had basically lead to the collapse of the American Front for the Entente, retreating to Canada and holding areas there. This lead to the British signing a peace treaty with the Confederacy and Mexico, however they had to pay heavy war reparations. This lead to the War of the Americas over with a Confederate victory. Having to fend off the Ottomans and Germans at the same time while trying to stop the Confederates strained the economy of Britain and had to sign a peace with Germany. *The Treaty of London* 1. Egypt is to be given to the Ottomans 2. All German territories taken by Britain had to be handed back 3. Britain had to sever any alliances it had with other countries 4. Britain had to limit the amount of ships it could have 5. War reparations had to be paid *Treaty was Signed of August 28th 1917* The Russians later signed the same treaty with Germany as last time It is February of 1918 and France has been pushed back to Toulon and Paris had almost fallen. Morale has plummeted and the French Revolution has formed in Brittany. The French surrendered becoming a puppet to Germany and giving up its colonial empire to Germany. This war had lead to some countries getting less power and most now becoming the new empires of the 20th century. The US slowly dissolved into Iowa, Dakota and Minnesota with the rest gaining independence after the terrible war. Britain would slowly become the empire it once was as it would be the one to take the newly claimed Mexican territories for itself. Mexico did not grant the rebels independence and instead fought a gritty war leading to Mexican occupation by the rebels The Confederacy became isolated and worked on improving the infrastructure of its buildings and stopped the use of slavery. They then changed their name to ‘The Confederate Empire’ and proceeded to try and claim South America as its own which later worked France was still a puppet of Germany Germany went on to take over most of Europe and it lead to many revolts but Germany then defeated the Japanese and took their islands. That is what I think would happen

Honestly I see WWI going differently as the Confederacy you describe sounds like it would be ripe to go a similar yet different path to Russia, where the Union fosters the still slave holding south into a Civil War led by abolitionists and an African Confederate uprising, that becomes backed back Mexico, who see this as their chance to strike back against the backwards oppressors who have been chipping away at Mexico. Thus with Canada and New England tied up with the Union and Sioux, WWI likely does end in a stalemate or Central victory. Thus the Union ends up taking southern Ontario to unite most of the Great Lakes and fosters Quebec as an Independent nation to stop Canada from messing with them again and the Sioux getting to expand their territory to Washington/Oregon to have a Pacific port.

At the 4:31mark, you speak of the best way of "securing Liberty". Did you ever read what Alexander Hamilton wrote about that in Federalist Paper Number One (1787)? It is very prophetic, given the Electoral Choice we have in 2024!

So here's one to posit: What if Virginia joined the Union instead of the Confederacy? The most I know would happen: General Lee is a Union general, the Union still wins the war, though this time by a landslide.
@justfiddlinaround1128
@justfiddlinaround1128 2 жыл бұрын
Well, for that to happen, Lincoln couldn't have launched an invasion of the South, as by doing so, Virginia, NC, Tennessee, and Arkansas (who had voted to stay in the Union) were forced to secede and protect their sovereignty. For this scenario to work, there needed to be no war.
