You have the north side collapsing from the worlds' largest recorded landslide, then a lateral pyroclastic surge and glacial melt...The inevitable eruption was the first of its kind witnessed and recorded by humans, it was unique and literally destroyed 2/3rds of the Volcano. Yellowstone, "if it erupted tomorrow", would just be small and likely a minor explosivity index, likely a burst of steam.

They excavated a herd of prehistoric bison in Nebraska that was buried in ash from a previous eruption. Yellowstone is actually a hot spot which is in its current location due to the earth plate moving over it. In it's distant past this hot spot was actually in the Pacific Ocean.

I tend to believe that Yellowstone has erupted on a smaller scale since the last super eruption. Proof of that is recent lava flows in Idaho as recent as 2000 years ago. A simple chemical analysis of the lava would answer that question.
