No... It was not that communism was "a trend", it's just that many nationalists (who didn't support communism) would simply not stand for the South, as they were backed up mainly by France. Most of them saw the US as a new overlord, and them knowing how badly they were treated in French Indochina, they fought for the north. It's a shame how many nationalists got lost in communism during the Cold War; a good example is Castro. He was a cuban nationalist who was even friends with Francisco Franco, but knowing that nationalist inclined ideologies (fascism and such) were in a low, he gave up to the communist madness.

I should say that China sometime help VN and “sometime” bullying VN, so not many Vietnamese People like China But in my opinion, Vietnamese only don’t like Chinese government’s actions to other countries and their country, of course there are still some exceptions, but I think if China doesn’t exist then VN will also have many disadvantage, bc China also help VN in the Vietnam war if I remember correctly. There's victims of Agent Orange on the top floor, which was so upsetting to see.
