It's fairly accurate to Terraria, but the reforges should cost WAY more. Normally they're about the same price as the object you're reforging itself.

Reforging in terraria costs 33% of the item's base price iirc. And yeah, that wouldn't work in bloons due to having limited money: even with perfect luck where you get the best modifiers first try, it'd be hard to justify a 10% bonus in damage and speed over just getting a second tower for that price.

Aside from the cost modifiers affecting upgrades and not having the reforge randomized every time you bought something, I was surprised at the fact they included the mechanic where weapons cannot receive reforges that include a modifier that doesn't affect the weapon (weapons with 0 knockback aren't affected by knockback modifiers and thus do not receive them, same applies to non-mana consuming weapons and the mana cost modifier)

Terraria player here: This system is pretty faithful all around; the reforge cost is pretty small compared to what it would be in Terraria, and the cost would be changing more as well. The biggest difference though is that these modifiers always have the cost/xp modifier offsetting the power of the rest of the modifier but in Terraria there are plenty of examples of only-good modifiers (including the "ultimate" modifiers that buff like 5 stats) and only-bad modifiers. This is a pretty interesting mod! Glad to see all these other Terraria players :)

Looks like a fun mod but i'd definetly increase the buff/debuff reforge gives. Might even consider having different reforge tiers, so like the lowest costs like 2% but gives buff/debuff between -15% -> 15%, then middle for 5% gives between -30% -> -15% and +15% -> +30% And High for 15% gives -50% -> -30% and +30% -> +50% !!! The numbers i put here are only examples, not ones i think is perfectly balanced!!!

One thing I have to say is based on how cheap the reforging is, it's definitely worthwhile to spend more money on any damage tower to go for a super high tier reforge, for example on inferno tower going for the 30% cost increase reforge. Also again right before you upgrade to something very good for example next upgrades are 10x cost of current tower go for a really cheap reforge, 12% or higher discount rather than settling at 7%.

In Terraria the reforge cost also majorly depends on the quality of the current modifiers. It sounded in the text like this does as well, but didn't seem to actually be the case. While the cost somewhat depends on the quality of the item, it might be 4 times as expensive if you already have really good modifiers compared to when you have bad modifiers. Another big thing... terraria has straight up good and straight up bad modifiers, and I feel the cost/XP adjustment kinda defeats that. A different way to do this, which would be more true to Terraria, would be to remove the cost/XP modifiers, and instead have the modifiers reset/reroll when you buy an upgrade.

Pretty counterintuitively, I think it's often mathematically incorrect to follow ISAB's strategy of first going for a cost-decreasing reforge, upgrading to the desired end configuration, and finally attempting to get a more powerful reforge. Suppose you have a tower. You have spent x total dollars to acquire this tower so far, and it will cost you y additional dollars to upgrade it to the desired configuration. For simplicity I assume that we start off with a reforge with a -10% cost multiplier. Now we have a few choices: 1. Upgrade to the desired config first, then reforge; 2. Reforge now, then upgrade; 3. Upgrade to some intermediate point, reforge, then upgrade again. For now we hold off on strategy 3, and compare just strategies 1 (what ISAB did) and 2. Every reroll now costs you 0.03x, while every reroll at the end config costs you 0.03(x+y). Suppose your ultimate goal is to acquire a reforge of "goodness percentile" p (i.e. if we want a reforge that is at least as good as 80% of the possible reforges, then p = 0.8). In expectation, you need to reroll 1/p times. For simplicity I assume that "goodness percentile" is linearly related to the increased/decreased cost of upgrade. I assume that p = 0 are -15% cost reforges and p = 1 are +15% cost reforges. Thus the cost modifier is 0.3(p - 0.5). Thus if we upgrade first, it costs 0.9y to upgrade, and then in expectation (0.03 * (x+y) / p) to reforge. If we reforge first, it costs in expectation 0.03x / p to reforge, and then (1 + 0.3(p - 0.5)) * y to upgrade. The difference between the total cost of upgrading first and reforging first is therefore (0.9 - 1 + 0.3 (p - 0.5)) * y + (0.03 * (x+y) / p - 0.03x / p), which simplifies to (0.3p - 0.25)y + 0.03y / p. Note that we're not interested in the magnitude of this value, but only the sign (if it's positive, then it's cheaper to reforge first; if it's negative, then it's cheaper to upgrade first). Since the base cost to upgrade y is always positive, this is the same as the sign of (0.3p - 0.25) + 0.03 / p. Wolfram says this number is positive whenever p > 0.688 (i.e. strategy 1 is more costly than strategy 2 if p > 0.688). That is to say, if you want a "decent" reforge/a reforge that is in the top ~1/3 of most desirable reforges for your particular tower, then you should follow strategy 2 and reforge immediately! And I'd argue that p > 0.688 should probably be true for most "carry" towers. As for strategy 3, note that this strategy is the same (costwise) as following strategy 1 until the intermediate configuration, then strategy 2 afterwards. After the desired reforge is acquired at the intermediate config, strategy 3 and strategy 2 are the same; so the cost difference comes down to whether strategy 3 is cheaper than strategy 2 up until this point. But that's the same as asking whether strategy 1 or strategy 2 is better, just with a different endpoint-and we've already seen that strategy 2 is better. So strategy 3 is also off the table. There's room for a bit more nuance: - Acquiring the initial -10% cost reforge also isn't free (as ISAB experienced a few times throughout this video), which harms strategy 1 even more; - Although all strategies result in a tower with the same strength at the end, they get there via different paths (reforging first is going to be stronger early, but weaker before you reach the goal configuration because you will reach tier 5 later); - If playing with farms, income early is worth more than income later (since it can be farmed); this works in favor of strategy 1 over strategy 2 (since the bulk of the additional cost is reforging after reaching the desired config, where the player should have way more income).

the mod does not seem that accurate to Terraria's reforge system, most of the changes in Terraria's reforges are all positve or all negative with only a few exceptions (exept for magic weapons where many reforges that are good also increase the cost to use) and the cost to reforge is also dependent on if the reforge is good or not, but the most blaring difference is the fact you did not spend all of your money just to get a bunch of terrible reforges
