I have found that what you tested here is relevant for you. Your rev rate, your speed, etc. "Upside down" exactly should result in similar reactions. However, bigger differences would be due to ball weight differences like top weight and pin distance from the CG. Believe it or not in the 90s it was found that rotating the label 90 degrees on Balls had some good effects. However, I think once again this was due to Pin placement relative to CG. Pin to PAP gives a driller a way to make a consistent layout for differences in primary release patterns.

Just judging off of the warm up shots it seems like the ball might be starting to roll too early and deflects a bit much resulting in flat 10s. However chris is a great bowler therefore I think he will make the adjustment and shoot about 232

Hey guys I have a question, I have a Motiv Jackal Rising and my home lanes are really heavy oil and the pattern seems to be oddly long. I was thinking of taking the surface down with 500 then 1000. Is this a good idea? I know my ball is made for heavy oil, but I feel like it’s still not reading early enough.

I'm guessing 223. I'm still surprised when people are shocked by where the CG goes in a 1 handers symmetrical ball. Mo explained this a long time ago, when you drill a thumb hole in a symmetrical ball the CG is now in the thumb. Pin to pap and Val angle are the only things that will matter.

Interesting video. I used to drill balls in the dark ages (1980s) when all you worried about was finger weight and pitch. Is this not evidence that you just need to be a great athlete and adjust to whatever is in your hand? For sure, some conditions require different gear, but becoming a slave to your toolkit seems dangerous. (This reminds me of the famous trumpet player compliment: "That horn sounds great!" Nothing to do with the player.)

Does that make a difference gluing the grips in on a slant and cutting off the extra, most shops just put them in level. Even with a lot of pitch is drilled. I want to see how you drill the top sleeve to his thumb slug instead of the ball too. What's his spec sheet look like ?

I drilled a goofy type of "upside-down" layout with a pro-pin blem. The ball had something like a 9"+ pin to CG distance. I read a recommendation to mark a "pseudo pin" directly opposite of the real pin, and use that with the CG to drill a "normal" layout. Made sense in theory. Long story short, the ball flared backward over the middle finger hole.

i'd say about 227, Mo Pinel said in a video that the CG doesn't matter and I have been drilling balls according to the pattern on the ball vs using the 6-3/4 through the CG to make the rotation more visible downlane especially on solid colored balls. I thought the video was going to be drilling completely upside down with the pin on the bottom on the ball, would probably be USBC illegal though, had a 2 handed og hy-road drilled that way but it had a weight hole which is now illegal.
@louieatienza8762
@louieatienza8762 Жыл бұрын
Nothing new... we drilled a few balls like this about 20 years ago for a client. But back then you needed to drill a weight hole past the CG to make it legal, so we needed the client to throw the ball a couple times so we could put the weight hole in the first flare line and just missing the second, to make it legal. And it wasn't our idea - it was in an issue of BTM, and I believe it was a drill pattern Danny Wiseman used. Our particular client liked to play outside and was relatively up the back, and he averaged 700 for an entire season with the drill pattern in a second shift league. So it's really a control layout. Nowadays with no weight hole I'm sure the reaction is a lot different.

How does one "add more rotation" to allow the ball to store more energy on the back of the pattern?
@mtburr1089
@mtburr1089 2 жыл бұрын
In the case of what Kris is talking about here, he’s getting more around the side of the ball at release, increasing his axis rotation. The more on the side of the ball you are (as opposed to up the back of it) the closer you get to spinning the ball like a top. This causes the ball to skid further down lane. The reduced friction from the skid motion causes the ball to store its rotational energy for longer and will break harder coming off the back of the oil pattern, down lane. This harder hook down lane increases angle into the pins and helps the ball continue at that angle through the pin deck. It’s just a way to keep the ball from rolling too early, and increasing the energy it comes off the back of the pattern with. It can be a double edged sword however, as this increased angle maximizes the penalties for bad shots.

Maybe truly drill it upside down. Use the quarter scale to map the pin on the other side of the ball. Then use that with the same pin to PAP. Don't worry about the weight as it will be over on top vs bottom. In theory it should flare backwards with the same bow tie points. We did this a million years ago with the Brunswick phantom. (It used a Saturn ring style core)

I’m gonna have to say about 225 or 230 something. I don’t believe that there would be much of a difference with the ball being drilled “upside down” given that it is symmetrical, but maybe the idea of it rolling different might cause him to bowl somewhat differently. Or there might need to be an added element (ie rotation, speed, etc.) in case the drilling makes a huge difference.

9/ X 9/ X X X 8/ X 8 [split] 1 XXX. For 216. So I bowl as a full roller 2 hander. I've thrown pin up for awhile before I got my fit rechecked cuz my oil track was getting closer and closer to my finger holes. The pin up stuff for me goes super long and tumbles and having a hard time getting a 1:1 roll and not going through the pins easily. Full roller layout reads the mid part of the lane and has a nice 1:1 roll and it's very predictable. Using the purple hammer feels like a super strong super early reactive ball instead of urethane for me. When I shoot at my 10 pin for a strike from 2/3rd arrow, I usually cross over.

Sorry to tell the kids on tour the reason they go to urethane is the inability to control reactive. Urethane is your backstop because of rev rate and you can use less reactive equipment and still score with rev rate.I'm 56 years old, I have no rev rate. I use the most aggressive layout for a rev challenged because I can't rev it up and never had to. You kids need to take your hand out of the ball and just get simple. Norm has done it for 30+ years.
