Fully agree. With the rant about having to sent to FM for repair I am missing shipping costs and turnaround time for all of us outside of US. We can buy our Onewheels here in Europe, but to fix the headlight I need to ship the whole thing across the ocean. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT?
@gabrielprandini26292 жыл бұрын
Thanks for producing this, I'm grateful for guys like you starting/keeping the conversation going. I have an Onewheel in Canada and the shipping cost alone makes sending it to FM unviable. FFM, VESC all the way.

As someone happily voiding warranties, and taking apart everything I’ve ever seen since I was old enough to hold a screwdriver this was one of your best Mario. I am definitely looking into component level repair, after having to give up my board for almost 90 days when my BMS failed due to a lightning strike. Fortunately I got a new board and was only boardless for about two weeks, but that two weeks was torture. Right to repair is fundamental to being American. I don’t even understand why or how we got into this mess other than capitalism at its worst. I get that FM would like to be in the repair business, but just like any other dealer should have to compete with other repair businesses. Yes they make a fantastic product, yes I love their product, but all of us who ride know that there are features we would like, and of course the ability to repair, our boards. Do we own them or do we rent them?

Totally agree! I had my board for two weeks and loved every minute of it. Until, it stopped turning on, no lightbar, no reaction to the charger, none. So I had to send it to FM for the warranty repair. It is a week now a week since it's in the clearance process here in Europe. It didn't leave even leave the continent and I assume that I will be two months with the board. It honestly sucks!!! I got so used to driving around a city.... FM should seriously think about opening a certified repair shop at least in Europe.
@growingupisatrap66883 жыл бұрын
As another poster already said and especially for us not in the US is crazy to expect us to ship things back to them for every repair. Why don’t they at the very least have official licensed repair centres around the world. It is a constant worry that a fault might develop that you have no relatively easy way to get fixed, short of shipping back to them from the UK at great expense etc.
@dinniestones30583 жыл бұрын
This is the only thing holding me back from buying a OW (I'm in the UK too.) I can drive 30 minutes to a local shop and spend nearly £2k on one but if something goes wrong I may have to shell out who knows what to ship it back to FM. I have searched and asked about repair shops in the UK. I even contacted one to see if they could put my mind at ease. "I wouldn't worry about it" was the response. Not what I wanted to hear. Minor repairs I would attempt myself anyway, but if a board or battery was at fault or came to the end of its life, then what? As you mentioned, properly stocked repair centres around the world would be the answer. Stick one in Europe for a start and see what happens. What have FM got to lose by passing some of the work on? I would guess that they'd sell more boards to happier customers and that would make up for any revenue they lost from repairs. I'm afraid I'll be getting around on TwoFeet for a little while longer.

I love my Onewheels but don’t exactly like the direction FM is going right now… especially with the “one off” tire size with the Onewheel GT! Exactly, it is a damn shame. I live in Europe and I don't even want to look how much would it cost to send there and back my board. That, plus the cost of the repair would very probably be somewhere close to just buying a working second hand board from the US and ship it to here, which is just damn ridiculous and very greedy on their part. Not to mention the environmental costs of moving a 30 pound package all over the world and back, versus they just sending me the piece or whatever. Luckily I'm all for independent repair, I have a bit of knowledge on electronics, and don't mind watching countless tutorials on KZbin. But if that wasn't the case I would absolutely not buy a OW because if it breaks, you're totally screwed. Maybe that is why I haven't seen another OW other than mine ever here. And to your point with Apple, I really hate their practices (I've shared many frustrations with Louis Rossman over the years) so I would hate to buy their products. Luckily, for that there's alternatives, not so much with FM. I'm following the VESC project closely but it's still very much in beta.

ANOTHER RANT! Well done by the way - I have an even WORSE issue - I live in Australia and there are no repair places... and I sent my OneWheel back to Future Motion because after diagnosing it with them via email, they instructed me to return it fo repair... but I couldn't return it as even specialty couriers wouldn't ship it due to the batteries - so I shipped it without batteries and Future don't wan to repair it now as its against their terms. I have offered to buy new batteries from them which they don't want to do. And it's already cost me $250 to ship it there and now they want me to ship it back to myself - broken!

Also from Europe (UK specifically) - I'd consider a OneWheel, but they aren't exactly legal here unless you take them off road, and if you take them off road there's a higher chance that wet muddy water will get everywhere (because it rains all the time). It's not California, producing an out door product that's not sufficiently water resistant isn't going to cut it when it costs thousands of £/$/€, especially if FM aren't going to sort out local repair centres.

Seems to me that Future Motion is missing out on a huge revenue stream by not selling OEM parts to repair businesses. If people are more willing to go outside of their rigid ecosystem and part out old boards to get what they need, they are just leaving money on the table.

Quite the opposite. By controller the repair aspect of the product, they retain more revenue since they retain control. It's one of the ways that most tech companies continue to earn money on past sale of a product.

Wow.. now I want to stop by the Board Shop! Fair ways away, from Canada, but it's a place I'd love to go and see at least once :) As for the Rights to Repair, I completely agree.. so much resources are wasted by doing it 'the way they want us to do it' compared to how independents figured out how to do it. I understand the business model of Future Motion as any bad repair gives them bad publicity, but no matter who does it, when bad things happen, it's too late! I don't want to know how much it would cost me to send my board back to FM... I'm starting to get the flickering lights thing and even if I'm on warranty, I think I'm just going to order the wire from the Board Shop and fix it. These tires are tubeless, and when removing a tire, any tire sealant will spill. There shouldn’t be enough to just pour out, but it would have to be cleaned off the hub motor, and new sealant installed after the new tire is seated.

I have contacted FM for the little plastic piece on the onewheel pint that is a wire protection/secure point underneath the board and has two small philips screws. I was half a year out of warranty and one of them cracked and gave them specifics and common sense that it is infact a plastic piece with two screws in the email. I asked for them to possibly send them and if I have to pay for it, I don't care. They sent me two of them for free and I have a extra piece just in case.
