It's refreshing to see a backpacker who still overpacks. I feel that's more realistic and common than minimalism. 85 liters is too much for me personally, but I don't feel I can do a 30 or 40. Maybe a 50. I once saw a girl who lived out of a 17 liter bag which was too extreme for me. Also, glad someone else geeks out over gear.
@gurusevikadasi1085 жыл бұрын
I like your comment, though I'm an extreme minimalist traveler. Last September I lived out of my 6 liter tiny backpack, plus a one liter bumbag for 19 days hahaha :) It was so nice and relaxing to travel that light, and I really had everything I needed.

I usually overpack and overbuy stuff when on holiday, so I made myself a challenge to not take my 85l suitcase and 30l backpack with me, but only my Eagle Creek Companion 40l (which is AMAZING!!!) and now I am totally comfortable with 40l for about 1 - 2 weeks even in winter.

I remember backpacking in South East Asia and it was almost a "thing" to be packing light. It's like a badge. For me, I prefer more space these days. I'm going with a 60L bag for three weeks in Asia soon. I'll pack about 50L into it. Some space for new things.

No shade at all. I understand still using a large, heavy pack, but for me I do enjoy the simplicity of traveling light and efficient. However, it is a system approach to do so and requires some learning and skills to acquire lightweight/ultralight weight gear and clothes. Think multifunctional and simple, lightest weight version of something you can get. Ultralight allows you raptor always have your bag with you no matter what, eg busses, trains etc and you can comfortably wear it for hours.

I know it is a personal choice but I would really suggest you try using a menstrual cup. They are great in general but especially when traveling as you don't need to worry about disposing of tampons or buying them. Just an idea. @sarahappy32046 жыл бұрын
I went on a short (18 days) solo trip last summer. It was my first time traveling all by myself. Just a few small tips: Stay in Hostels and engage in activities. You'll usally meet people with similar interests. Maybe you'll find somebody with who you can travel along. You can always call family or friends or you can even video chat with them (most hostels have wifi). Maybe it helps to send your loved ones home some pictures to let them be a part of your journey or a real postcard. Even though most people were older (24-28) nobody cared that i had just turned 18. So age doesn't seem to be a problem
@annalang56876 жыл бұрын
If you stay in hostels, you are surrounded by people the entire time. Fill your days with a lot of stuff and keep yourself busy on travel days! Also, WiFi is everywhere, you can contact family and friends basically whenever the time difference allowes it. I might have called my mom at two in the morning once... I've found that more often than not, since you share your room with so many people, you actually learn to appreciate alone-time :)

All these tips are great about meeting people on the road! But also dont lose the opportunity to get comfortable being on your own! You can grow so much as a woman while traveling, and if you spend time getting to know who you are, doing what YOU want, WHEN you want... its invaluable, dont waste it wishing you were with someone or back home! My mom told me, right before I left on my trip, "If something scares you and excited you at the same time, you should probably do it." Everything we want is on the other side of fear. You got this!!!
