Correct they are the same instrument. Also known as the vargan (Russia), mukkuri (Japan), or dan moi (Vietnam). It's believed to have originated in Asia or Southeast Asia around 3000 years ago. Archaeological evidence suggests that early forms of this harp were used in China, Siberia, and Mongolia as early as 400 BCE. Zero affiliation to the Jewish though, go figure.
@TheBarkinFrog4 ай бұрын
@@jeffreywillis4258 There are a couple of theories for where the "jew's" term came from. 1, it's a corruption of the french "jue," meaning toy, or it's a corruption of "jaw." There is also a variant, "juice-harp," that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. In "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," Twain speaks of Jim playing juice-harp.
@ff13enlno31tleb3 ай бұрын
@@TheBarkinFrog you have reminded that I have actually heard it was also called a jaw harp, been long time since heard it, I've mouth harp and "jews " ( jue, spelling just learned as well) harp more often. This is one of the most popular Home Free songs. It was the first song I ever heard from Home Free & I was instantly hooked. It really showcases the talent of these 5 men (their tight harmonies, Tim Foust's bass & Adam Rupp's incredible beatboxing). They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is very old (about 100 yrs.) & is done in the bluegrass country style. Some of my favorites are "Take Me Home Country Roads", "In The Blood", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "How Great Thou Art", "Ring Of Fire", "Elvira", "Hillbilly Bone", "American Pie", "Brother In Arms", "One Man Band", "Listen To The Music", "Sea Shanty Medley", "Skull & Bones" etc.

New subscriber. Yes, welcome to Home Free, all acapella, no instruments at all. Masters of all musical genres. They won the 4th season of the Sing Off in 2013. Their covers are upgrades, their medleys are brilliant, their collaborations with the original artists are inspirational, and their original songs are masterpieces. Within this 5 man vocal band you have 5 tenors, 5 beat boxers, and 2 bass-baritones. All of them can sing lead and they choose depending on whose voice best fits the song. Typically Rob sings tenor, Austin sings high tenor, Chance sings baritone, Tim sings bass and Adam Rupp is the beat boxer. But they have been known to mix it up. They can do just about anything and they continue to grow and improve, yet they remain so humble. When they have featured guest artist, they support and allow their featured artists to shine. Several of them have their own channels and do some solo work. And just for fun Rob and Austin sing Opera. What else can I say? Their catalogue of work is quite large and continues to grow. You are in for an exciting journey and the Home Fries will be there for you all the way.

Great Reaction!! Welcome to Home Free rabbit hole. The group started in 2000/2001( there’s contention on the year)by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do so so much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do. There is no Lead singer in the group.They each ( except Adam )sing the song and who’s ever voice or voices sound right for the song gets the lead unless is a bass/ baritone song then that’s Tim or Chance.A lot of time they each have a part in the song. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys. Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire can make almost any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota. Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) Very soulful voice and master whistler from Minneapolis,Minnesota Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland,Texas Austin Brown:High Tenor ( Long wavy hair )Voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia.He has left the group and Adam Bastien took his place June 21 He is from Detroit,MI Adam Chance(Aka Chance):Baritone/Bass Deep,rich voice(Does the juice harp sound in Man Of Constant Sorrow) has short dark hair short beard from Baldwin County,Alabama.Replaced Chris Rupp ( Adams Brother and co founder in 2016) They have collaborated with many singers and legends Don McLean: Vincent Don McLean:American Pie Oak Ridge Boys:Elvira Kenny Rodgers:Children Go Where I Send Thee (Please watch the end message) Alabama:Christmas In Dixie Mark Wills:Don’t Laugh At Me ( important message at the end ) Lee Greenwood & US Airforce Band:God Bless The USA Any many many more. They have amazing songwriters in the group Tim, and Chance and Austin was also one of the songwriters so they have a very large playlist of covers and original songs End of the Road (Boyz 2 Men cover ) Helplessly Hoping (5 part harmony masterpiece ) Butts Medley/ Remix Listen To The Music Can’t Outrun You Brothers In Arms Skull And Bones ( original written by Chance for Ubisoft video game Skull And Bones) Life Is A Highway Stand By Me Jump Right In Any Way The Wind Blows I’ve Seen (Original by Tim) Your Man Crazy Life ( original and last video with Austin ) Something To Talk About ( first video with Adam B ) I Still Believe In You ( latest release) Mayday(DON’T WATCH TILL YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GROUP AND THEIR RANGES ) There's not a song that you pick from their 200+ catalog that is bad I haven't found one yet. They are just funny, down to earth, humble nice guys.They are the best A Cappella group there is IMO Sorry for the long read 🏠🍟

Tim, the basso profondo you were wide-eyed about, did his solo bit, then switched to the ultra-deep voice that you got even wider-eyed about. If you do a quick search, you'll find a series of "Timgasms" on here, where people have put together clips of, mostly women, hearing him hit deep notes, for the first time. "Ring of Fire", with Avi (from Pentatonix) sitting in with Home Free, will give you another example of him generating earthquakes. If you want another treat, check out "When A Man Loves A Woman". Austin, the tenor in the hat in this one, takes the lead on that one, and presents a master class in the art. If you want to go to church, check out "How Great Thou Art" - truly inspirational.

He has a five-octave range. Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). It is haunting and beautiful. They have recently released several new songs that you will want to check out. Unchained Melody, Listen to the Music, Brother and Stargazer Lilies trilogy: Give Me A Sign, Stargazer Lilies and Mr. ...Their latest releases are Might As Well Be Me, Playing With Fire, Remember My Name, Oh, Pretty Woman, Cruise, Stand By Me, Colder Weather and Life is a Highway. To switch it up..try Two Country Singers try singing Opera. Adam Chance just wrote the theme song to Ubisoft's new Pirate themed video game, Skull and Bones and Home Free performs it. I watched O Brother Where Art Thou with my mom who grew up in the 30s. She was delighted and told me it was exactly as she remembered the people and places from her childhood. Now your southern accent?...well bless your heart.

You just made a minor scratch on the surface with this group, enjoy the Home Free rabbit hole. Some suggestions, When A Man Loves A Woman, Listen To The Music, Stand By Me, Ring of Fire (newest version)

That young man who sings the main lead is a Georgia boy, and his accent is for real. Tim says when Austin first joined the group, no one understood a word he said. They would listen tonAustin, and then turn to Tim (bassman) for an interpretation.Tim is a native Texan, and the closest thing to Country they had. Other three were from upper Midwest. Adam's "no-monica" is at it's best in "Ain't Going Down til the Sun Comes Up". Even makes it into an electric guitar.

You should listen to their cover of "Ain't Goin Down Til The Sun Goes Down". Adam goes absolutely crazy with his No-Monica. He is truly amazing.
