You're so spot on about M Night. Originality anywhere is so rare these days and even if Shyamalan's movies might not be great sometimes, they're unique and original, and I respect a lot about it. Like even the happening, the idea that there's a disease that makes people commit suicide is unique and I like that someone is trying, in a world where Disney movies are 80% of the ticket sales.

To me, what I admire about M.Night Shyamalan, is that despite how much the hard work of filmmaking he has accomplished with The Visit, and despite some of his movies being among the worst of all time (as well as the best of all time), M.Night manages to still be a overall positive and fun guy to be around. And so, no matter what kind of movies he makes, whether it be bad or good, it will always be comforting to know that he is supportive to everyone around him, and is simultaneously invested in the filmmaking industry.

Some additions to my list might include Jean-Marc Vallée, Denis Villeneuve, Greta Gerwig, Rian Johnson, Jordan Peele, Wes Craven, Matt Reeves, etc. Directors who value story above all else.

@@coolnerdlll6053 I don’t really care. I love Rian Johnson’s work- Knives Out was fantastic. I also loved TLJ, and admire directors who aren’t afraid to tell an interesting story. Honestly nothing could’ve been worse than the trainwreck that was TROS, and that was all JJ Abrams. @@Kieran2502 No i'm still not sure how it works yet. But i'm likely going to try and hire someone who can step in as a mediator to help me reach out to the right people. But that's all still years down the road probably. I want this story to be as good as it can be before i even consider exposing it to a studio. My hope is that if i lay down a lot of the groundwork myself, and not just present an "idea" so to speak, that it is more likely to get interest. That is why i'll be storyboarding the entire story, and include every single scene of importance both visually and in text format. I'll also have several presentations prepared, such as a pre-animated short clip, some key visuals, sound designs, and some other arts like sculptures etc. That's cool that you wanna create stories yourself. I wouldn't stress over the technical aspects of who and how to present your story, as that will work itself out naturally down the line. I'd simply just start writing if i were you. The process can be hard, but it is so gratifying to know that you are actively creating something special. Try and sit down, and just start writing something, even if it is gibberish. Eventually, it will turn into something more. Just gotta always always trust in the process. Even if it doesn't feel like you're going anywhere.

Fincher is like a super exacting surgeon that's the ultimate perfectionist. No other director in the business is able to achieve as much control of everything in the frame as he is. He literally created his own style. Along with Villeneuve he's number one.
@averagegoslingenthusiast20332 жыл бұрын
He’s far better than Villenueve. Fincher revolutionised the crime/psychological thriller with films like Se7en, Fight Club and Gone girl. Then made a biographical movie in The Social Network which was phenomenal again. Then he went onto change the TV scene with House of Cards and Mindhunter (which I think is the greatest psychological thriller TV series ever). The man is a genius. I’d like to have put Nolan in that tier too, mainly because I loved his 2000s films (The prestige, Batman Begins, TDK, Memento) but his more recent films like Interstellar and Tenet feel like they have an obsession with being more convoluted than they needed to be.

I gotta say this hit home man, my dream is to work as an animator and right now I’m waiting for my acceptance letter or rejection letter to get into the animation school I want. I really want to hear a yes, but like you say, if it’s a no, I’ll just try again and again and again. Thanks Chris your passion in movies inspires me .👍🏻

Watching you for the past 9 years has been an excruciatingly hopeful journey man.. you mean a lot to me not just as a creator and entertainer but as a human being.. I really hope you see this because I want you to know that even though I have no aspirations to become a director or writer.. your drive inspires me to do what I love ✌️ ❤️

Hearing no is indeed a great form of inspiration. Forces me to really believe in myself to keep drawing and create this animated movie I’ve been working on. Totally agree.

Hey Chris, although I'm not in the film industry, you inspire me on my own path. You are the man. Love from El Salvador

This video is so inspiring and I relate to this so much. I have been making films for 17 years now and still climbing the ladder. Keep going Chris and well done on your Kickstarter. 👏 🎉

I rarely comment on videos but I just have to say your story is incredibly inspiring! I’ve been watching your channel since the early days and even had your videos included in my English classes (I teach middle school in Sweden). My students have analyzed your videos as part of different assignments. You deserve all the success and I wish you all the best in your directing career.

im not entirely sure if you read these things lol, but i gotta say it when i was a kid, i wanted to make movies (its since turned into videogames but, this still applies) there are very few things in this world that have inspired me as much as you have on this entire journey, youvve been one of my favorite youtube channels since 2014 and im so unbelievably excited to see shelby oaks come to fruition, youve made me so very proud to be a fan of yours (which might sound weird, but oh well lol) not saying weve had the exact same hardships, but i did grow up in a mormon family, which isnt nearly as bad as the JW's but your story with them while growing up resonated with me, and im so glad you can actually be yourself , thats really inspiring also, that feeling of being told no so it lights a fire under you, i believe is called spite! and its what drives alot of my creative work aswell xD

I'm just an old bat who loves movies as much as you. I'm so proud of you, and it's nice that I could help you achieve your dream in a real way, more than just wishing you well and moral support.
