What is 10th Scale, anyway?

That Losi is probably my favourite truck for driving experience, just seems to look like a real truck how it moves,and rapid with the hobbywing sct setup.Edit,what I meant to say was,That Losi needs to be used!

My favourite truck is the Team Associated RC10T. Back in the days before Lipo came along, I ran mine in a mixed scale race with a 7 cell pack, and was catching the 1/8 IC guys. But as it was a 15 minute race I lost a 1.5 laps while changing the battery as I'd had to zip tie it in place. Major fun though, it handles so well!

10th scale is subjective. I think Tamiya is probably the most accurate scale representation of 10th scale. Any SCT is not a true 10th scale. We would run 8th scale late model bodies on a SCT chassis when we raced dirt oval.

I've got a 18 scale chassis with a 12 scale body and 10 scale tires and somehow everything just works. The rc scale "system" is weird.

10th scale Drag cars and SCTs are, from my experience, usually much closer to being 8th scale buggies than anything else.

Most of the time they're not. Apart from the tekno sct 4.10 which has 1/8 scale drivetrain components every other sct has components like your usual 1/10 buggy. Only the chassis is a bit longer.

For example the team associated buggies, stadium trucks and short course trucks have exactly the same components and just differ in wheelbase and trackwidth.

I bought that proline Chevy 76 body for a red cat caldera because it had the same wheelbase, after MASSIVE fender trimming the wheels still rubbed when turning. Too wide. Scrap that idea. I later forced it to fit on my charisma SCA-1E lynx, this time too long, cut it in half and sleeved about 1@1/2 in and stickered all over the seam to cover my Bucher job. It's one of a kind😂

In a way it's kind of nice, we get more options. I ran my old typhon body on my lcg slash for a while with bandit tires. Just flip the body mounts upside down and it's a perfect fit.

You guys have such an odd but cool collection. I made a mistake a few weeks ago ordering a body for my 1/10 scale Losi tenacity truggy. I ordered an Xray 1/10 scale truggy body for it which was way too small. Turns out the Tenacity Truggy is a 1/8 scale buggy with a custom size 1/10 truggy body. The X-ray body looked like a 1/14 scale. It was more like a 1/10 scale rc10gt size body. I wish I could post a picture. It's so funny how small it is compared to the 1/10 scale tenacity truggy. 😂😂 What a head-scratcher.

Saw an advertisement from proline a '56 Ford promod p/u body that got my attention, problem was "" for slash"... I had a senton.... finally found one advertisement that didn't have slash in it anywhere but did have" made for senton"... oh happy days, pulled the trigger made the order and was happy too see it wouldn't fit onto my buddy's slash but looks sweet on my senton....

Another variable between the 1/10 scale bodies is the damn wheel base. For example, HPI touring bodies are all 255mm where most Kyosho bodies are 260mm. Tamiya bodies are usually around 257mm. So you have to be careful when you are looking for a body that may be used across manufacturers. It’s frustrating!

I have the Arrma Typhon 3S and it's supposed to be 1/8 scale. My Traxxas Slash is just about as big or a little bigger than the typhon. I guess it's the nature of these buggy type cars?

I dont buy aftermarket bodies for my RCs, i mod stock bodies. I only think of bodies as protection for the electronics or engines. I do have to say though that the differences in scales is a little weird for sure.

Scale in our hobby is more about wheel mounting rather than real scale. "10th" scale use 12mm hex wheels, 8th scale is that bigger either nut. 5th scale is 24mm etc

Most 10th scale vehicles nowadays look a lot more like 9th scale. If that existed lol. I don't know why they call a lot of touring cars 10th. The traxxas 4tec is a 12th scale. I don't care what they label it at Traxxas. It's tiny. I ran 10th and 12th scale carpet cars years ago. The sizes are just way way off. The entire definition of the system of the scale determines the size of the toy car compared to the size of a real car. Somewhere along the line somebody has completely misconstrued their information.

It's not that difficult. Usually cars of the same scale have somewhat comparable size in drivetrain components like shafts, diffgears and diffhousings. And I never bought a wrong body. Just do your research in wheelbase and trackwidth and you're safe.

1/10 scale car in real life would in most cases be smaller than 1/10 scale truck! Proportioning will very from company to company I’m sure. Some standards will be the same for body availability and fitment! I’m not sure why company’s say 1/10 scale when in reality is more like 1/8 scale? 1/10 drag cars are particularly goofy because the bodies are made to fit a short coarse chassis…..widened and flared in many ways that takes away from the scale look.

Traxxas e-revo "10th scale" is way bigger than Traxxas revo "10th scale" but about the same size as Traxxas sledge "8th scale" this stuff never makes any sense

RC companies use the the concept of "scale" in a VERY loose and free way. I have my Losi "1/18" scale Chevelle drag car. It's 15" long- if you do the math that comes to 270" in the real world. But a REAL Chevelle is 198" long- so the Losi is WAY OFF. Do more math and it should be 11" long. It's about 1/13 scale- NOT 1/18. If they used scale properly than 18 Losi Chevelles WOULD equal 1 REAL Chevelle, that's what the word SCALE means

See where I come from the scale is taken from the wheelbase. Travis are the worst for scale bodging and a lot of vehicles are fictional anyway so no true comparison is available. Proper scale models are exactly that but a lot of rc stuff is just sales hype.
