In brazil we call it just banjo (we don't have the long one) and it's pretty prominent in a style called "pagode" that is derivative of samba but more upbeat and contemporary, worth a listen!

Aqui nos eua dificilmente se acha cavaco barato então a opção pra tocar o pagodinho é o banjolele 😂
