Thanks for the video Mike.I appreciate it and the time you spent and Included considering the various ways to cut that burl. Understandably KZbin Wood turners don't spend time showing you their planning processes. But of course considerable thought Is required In order to have a successful project result, and without unnecessary waste.

Hi Mike, I really enjoyed this presentation: I see that you struggled with the same questions than me cutting cherry burls for turning! I find it hard to decide how to optimize the cuts. Like many woodturning projects it’s always and adventure to discover what the wood wants to give us. Thank you for sharing those thoughts and experience in parting burls.

Very nice burl overview Mike. Burls are really mystifing to me. I have one that has been with me for several years and I cannot figure how to use it. I thought I had it figured out a while back but changed my mind. This video has helped me think it out a bit. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and you stay safe too.🙂🙂

Beautiful. I noticed some of those bowls were very thick, do you twice turn burl bowls? I'd imagine the shrinkage is not predicable because of grain irregularity.
@MikePeaceWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
Some I have once turned and some twice turned. Natural edge, I do not think, are easily twice turned. at least for me.

Mike hit the jackpot, thats enough cherry to last a lifetime!
@MikePeaceWoodturning Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately they won't wait a lifetime. I still have two left to process and turn.

Have you used Borax to treat for insects on your wood blanks?
@MikePeaceWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
No, do put it on the blanks or near them?
@deyyoung422 жыл бұрын
Not sure myself, but I will try it by spreading a fine layer over the blanks.

Great info on the burls Mike. I have a very dry Red Gum Eucalyptus burl I have had for a little over 10 years that I am unsure what to do with as of yet. Whatever I do with it, I know it will be very dry and extremely hard to cut. I have also heard of someone using a 50/50 mix of Elmer's Glue and water to seal their blanks. Are you familiar with this process at all?
@MikePeaceWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I would think not thinned would be better. Some use a couple of coats of latex paint.

I have a wood pile full of cherry, pecan an oak that I use for smoking but since I've started learning to turn, I use it for turning. My cherry is full of ants and grubs.

I have not found any grubs yet.
