This is an old tool for catfish hunters mainly used along Danube river network. We use it old the time, can't imagine going out for a catfish without it. And yes, if you know how, where and when you can use it, it will bring you results. Amazing results. If you do not match the clonk sound to the water depth, you can even have a contra effect, will just scare them away. For waters depth from 8-12 meters and above, use a clonk with a head size of an egg. More shallow waters demand lighter sound. Frequency also should be one clonk sound in every 2 seconds with short pauses after few hits. But why the catfish gets aggressive on your bait when you use the clonk, no one really knows. There are many theories, none is proven right until today. Anyway, it is not hard. Try to practice a clear sound, start clonking and if there is catfish, they will find your bate, I promise you :) But clonk wont do magic, if you are at the wrong place, you can clonk and clonk and clonk..and call me a liar, as it doesn't work :)

The reson this is working is that the sound is almost or the same as feedeing catfish. In catfish language this means "Dinner is served" and "Intruder in area". Two good reason to move.

The clonk imitates fish piping the water...fish that are piping will be in a group of about 15-20 fish and they will be a few feet below the surface, and while they are traveling, a few fish will surface and pop their mouth open quickly, and by opening quickly their mouth creates a suction to draw food into its mouth, and it creates a popping noise called piping, although the fish normally pipe while feeding they also pipe due to lack of oxygen

this is the same concept of popping corks for spec trouts. The sound of the cork imitates the sound of feeding frenzy.

Take your hand and make like you're gonna thump someone on the ear with your middle finger. Now tilt your hand down towards the water and position it as if you're gonna thump the water. Lower your hand until the middle finger and the tip of your thumb is just touching the water. Now thump the water. You may have to move slightly up or down, but when you're in the right position the thump will make a "fliphiftt" (best I can describe it :-) ) sound. That sound is the noise a bluegill makes when sucking a bug from the surface of the water.

I tried making one, one time outa a stick and some plastic. The theory is good. Catfish do make a distinctive sound when they hit a school of shad. However I did not notice any change while fishing from a bank. Maybe from a boat, with the right conditions. ?? I do enjoy your videos!

I think it's supposed to make the sound you made on the last stroke just a simple suck sound lika fishy sucking down a big bug not a kid chunking rocks but you got it. A long cane pole can thrash the water just right too or dynamite works if you need to make a splash but they don't feed to much after that particular splash

when i was just a kid i was fishing on cow creek in pittsburg ks for bullheads they had quit biting there was a an old black lady fishing with a cane pole .she told us to wait a min ,she gathered up her skirts and waded in up to her thighs and started slapping the water with her pole then she got out and it wasn't but a few minutes they started biting again like crazy she said sometimes ya just gotta wake em up
