Wow, I love that Omega. I loved it so much I went straight to ebay and saw they were going for around $3,000 and decided to stick with my £60.00 Seiko 5. Hey, maybe one day.

SEIKO are a very reputable company. From memory, SEIKO, in particular the Grand Seiko range have repeatedly defeated the over hyped Rolex range in type keeping i.e. only lose 1 - 3 seconds within 12 months.

So glad you done this video I haven't got a chronograph in my collection yet and I must admit it was partly because I wasn't sure of how they worked. After watching this video I've realised it really is pretty simple so now when I do eventually get some chronograph (Seiko Pogue and Omega Speedy) I will be able to time loads of random things and enjoy using all the watch has to offer.

Great explanation. I'm also new to all of this stuff regarding watches, I just bought a digital Casio on a whim the other day because it's very cold here in Sweden right now, and it's a bit bothersome to dig out my phone just to look a the time with gloves on and all that, so just moving up my jacket arm a little to see what time it is feels much easier and faster. Then I somehow found my way to a bunch of these videos, and now I feel like collecting more of them, even if I'll probably never own a several thousand dollar one.

The useful thing about the Omega is that when you are in a vehicle on a road with the kilometres marked by posts, you start the chronograph at one post and you stop it at the next post, based on the place where the chronograph has stopped (For example at nine o'clock, that would be 80 km/h) you've figured out the velocity of the vehicle.

I always knew what a chronograph is, I just never owned one. Then I became a junkie and bought one. Of course I didn’t research how to use it so I’m wildly pressing buttons. Then the notorious HOW DO YOU RESET ALL THESE DIALS! Lol. Pretty easy once you read the instructions. Great videos! Thanks!
@Quicksilver_Cookie6 жыл бұрын
Everybody who have ever owned one, and learned how to use one had an "oh NOW I understand" moment. When it suddenly all starts making sense. How to start, stop, split, reset, zero in, etc. Only two buttons. I love it.

Thank you, I've recently been wondering about Chronographs, starting with a vague idea of what they do. But it helps to see the functionality in operation. Thanks. The SSC081 looks interesting, but I would argue that it's very, very busy. I'm guessing that with practice you get used to what to look at.

I have a few chronograph watches; a couple quartz movements (including a Seiko SSC017 solar chrono-diver), a Strela Russian mechanical chronograph and a couple meca-quartz movements that blend the two, therefore having the accuracy of quartz yet the smooth second hand and definitive mechanical click of the pushers. Oh, and I guess my new Fieldmaster has a digital chronograph, which is nice as well. Really, I rarely wear a watch that isn't either a diver or a chronograph and use the timing complication often. One other exception is my mechanical alarm pilot watch, which does show the benefits of a large, uncluttered dial, but also benefits from having an extra little hand for the alarm that can be used either passively as a time marker or as an alarm as intended. Kinda makes me interested in one of those Russian alarm, Flieger type B watches as I've always liked that dial, but rarely wear basic 3-hand watches.

I love how the Seiko resets as well. So satisfying to see. But I learned I probably wouldn’t want that one. Because it seems to take too long to start over. If I were to use it as a stopwatch I often would be timing things in quick succession and would need it to reset quickly. Hmmm watch fan drama. 😜

Thanks... Just bought an Invicta Chrono. Annddddd, no, had no clue truly what it was. (Gotta love American consumerism :). I got the impression it was just a stopwatch, but this cleared it all up. Its also a tachymeter, lmao, i have to check your library for that. It seems to me to be basically the same thing. Rotate the dial to mark the start of whatever, and track how long goes by? God i loved my simple Bulova. Broken. More to fix than i payed for it. :( I appreciate the knowledge. Seems a raw deal im only paying a "like" for it

Great job explaining the Chrono to a noob like myself.. Ohhh that speedy!! Something special.. being a cinematography and photographer every millisecond is needed between aperture speeds buffering times and setting for the next shot, I believe the speedy’s SnapBack allows for the user to time the next event immediately and not wait for the watch to do a little dance that could cost you start time accuracy if needed at that particular moment.

It kind of says it itself, but anyways, if someone is wondering; the Omega Speedmaster and other more high end Chronographs jump straight back to 12 instead of doing the whole "sweeping motion". Reason behind it is so you can restart or start counting something again instantly. People who use chronographs for timing stuff often would pop a vein by not having it ready directly.

A wonderful video, Jory. I believe a new subset of videos would be useful even for a reference, the "how to use" watch complication. You made some of these already on many videos but it would be easier to locate on You Tube if so named. I loved when you made one on how to use the compass complication (that you referenced in this video). I never knew compasses came on an analog watch. There must be some unique field watches that have rare complications. Another video could be about the different types of luminosities on a watch..

This is something ive always wondered, is there a connection between the slide rules on watches like the Navitimer and Seiko flightmaster and the chrono function?
@KrisHandsome6 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the slide rule is the result of pilots wanting a chronograph and a sort of calculator for the functions they'd need. The slide rule can calculate conversions, for example mph to kph, and things that a pilot would need like fuel consumption. I don't think the chronograph is meant to work with the bezel, but they both have functions that'd be useful in a pilot watch.
